Chapter 39 :
"Oh dearie, you have to" insisted Mrs. Briggs as she stood on the other side of the door.
she felt worried about Victoria and her state of mind, and she couldn't help it.
It's not great at all when you have to watch your back with every move you make. And she was trying her best to make Victoria not have to go through this.
Mrs. Briggs could not wrap her head around the fact that there was someone out there that hated her Victoria so much to the point that they'd try to ruin her.
'This is definitely more than what Carl and I signed up for,' she thought as she placed her forehead on the door.
"Dearie, everyone is waiting for you.... surely you don't want to be the cause of everyone being late."
A few seconds later, she heard shuffling from the other side of the door. And it went like that for a while before the door finally opened.
Mrs. Briggs felt like she was going through a cardiac arrest as she stared at her dearie appearance.
She had on a pink and black-colored onesie, her hair in a messy bun, and a tube of Ice cream in her hands. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying, and her face hosted a pout.
"I don't care if they're late... I didn't tell them to wait," she croaked, her voice hoarse from crying for so long.
"Oh My God..... what in the heavens happened to you?" Mrs. Briggs asked in a somewhat melodramatic tone as she held her hands to her chest.
"Hell happened," replied Victoria in an emotionless voice as she rolled her eyes before taking a spoonful of her savior.
"As you can see, I'm tired and clearly not in the mood to go on a hippity hoppity trip with you guys," she said as she turned to go back inside.
"Wait.... so what are you going to do in this enormous place by yourself?" queried Mrs. Briggs asked as she tried not to run towards the bus when she heard its horn.
Victoria wanted to scream in frustration.
Muttering some curses under her breath, she looked towards Mrs. Briggs with a knowing look.
I call BS," she said, which caused Mrs. Briggs to look at her with an expression of horror.
Rooted in her place, she uttered, "D-Dearie?"
'I see even the oldest of them act like their royalty,' she thought while rolling her eyes mentally.
"Look, I love you and all... But I hate it when people pretend," she bluntly said.
"Excuse me... I'm not fake," said Mrs. Briggs as she tried to hide the fact that it offended her.
Victoria sighed tiredly as she squeezed the brink of her nose while looking to the ceiling.
"Gosh," she groaned, "When did I ever say you were fake?" she asked with her brows arched.
"Uh…" she uttered as she tried to answer.
"Just go.... enjoy yourself and don't worry about me... I'm fine," she said as she reached over and hugged her.
"Stay safe," she whispered.
'Finally,' her subconscious sighed while praising her dramatically.
She then stepped back into her room while giving Mrs. Briggs a smile throughout the process. She sighed relief when she had successfully closed the door and her back resting against it.
The sound of someone knocking could be heard approximately two minutes later.
"Urghh!!" she groaned while jumping about the room frustratedly.
"Uh, dearie?... It's me again .... hope I'm not disturbing you," said Mrs. Briggs in a somewhat cautious tone on the other side of the door.
'Why… Why... Why me?' she asked mentally as she fell to her knees.
"But, I and the others were wondering if you by any chance saw Andrew today?"
Clearing her throat, she wiped her tears before answering, "Uhh... No actually.... haven't seen him since the ball."
"What are you going to do?" she heard someone whispered from the other side of the door.
"I don't know, she's a stubborn one," she heard Mrs. Briggs whispered.
'What the hell is going on out there?' she asked herself slightly curious as she took a seat at the door.
"You've got to do something about the situation, love.... can't you see she's sad because of it," the voice whispered angrily.
"You idiot," she heard Mrs. Briggs said, followed by a slap and an ouch.
"She doesn't know yet," she said
"W-What but isn't it better to tell her now that let her find about it herself," the voiced said.
At this point, Victoria was confused as to what those two were talking about.
'Surely it couldn't be me,' she thought while nodding her head.
"Well, this is for her own safety.... you know she's gonna act on her emotions and not with logic," she heard Mrs. Briggs said.
'Wow, didn't know that she could act this way,' Victoria thought in surprise. She never knew that the kind old lady had this side.
'Guess I should have noticed yesterday,' she thought as the memories of last night came rushing back into her head.
"I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with you on that Milinda," she heard the voice said to Mrs. Briggs.
'Milinda? that sounds like a cheerleader name,' she thought while scrunching her face.
"Victoria dearie.... are you awake?.... there is someone I'd like you to meet," announced Milinda.
"W-What? I thought you told her that you were going to go with the others," she heard the voice protest.
"I told them to go.... she needed me, although she chooses not to show it," said Milinda.
"Darling are you in there?" she asked once more as she started to knock on the door harder.
"Milinda Christ!.... why are you acting like this she could be asleep... watch the door, it's expensive," said the voice.
'Can't I get some sleep? I'm only human, you know,' she thought while leaning her head on the door.
"Don't you get it?!" shouted Milinda in a panic tone, "She looked depressed the last time I saw her!... W-W hat if she-" sobbed Milinda.
'Wait to hold up... What does this lady take me far?' Victoria asked herself.
