Amnia shakes in fear, but does the last thing you should do, when facing a true mate. "I'm his mate not you." Amnia kicks Jaylen in the stomach sending her flying back, but only a little bit. I growl and go to attack but Jaylen holds her arm out telling me to stay out of it. "Are you challenging me for the Luna position?" Amnia eyes widen probably thinking Jaylen knows nothing about our system. "Yes, I Amnia Johnson challenge you Jaylen what's your face for Luna position."
Jaylen straighten, "I Jaylen Ruby Fire-rose accept your challenge." For an instant I saw a spark of fire on her antennas feathers. Shit, things just got real. 'I know you don't swear a lot if at all, but I totally agree.' Claude say comes near the surface. "You have no idea what you have just done. Amnia Domes, once this is over you will kiss this pack goodbye." Amnia runs out of the kitchen and down the hall towards the office. Jaylen turns and face me. Instead of her beautiful blue eyes, they were ruby red with flames in where the pupil supposed to be.
Instantly it goes back to her normal blue eyes and smiles at me. "How did you know her real last name is Domes?" I ask her and she gives me a guilty smile. "I may have looked into the pack records in our office." I burst out laughing. "There's no need to look guilty. This will be your pack as well." She smiles at my words. "So when will this dual take place?" She asks confidently like she has done this many times. "Just how many times have you done this?" I ask curious about how the phoenixes live. "Will since I was ten. When my mom announced me the next queen. There wasn't very many, since many wanted the queen to have a daughter. But many wanted to marry my brothers and if I wasn't born then my mom would have to go to her daughter in-laws. So I was challenged a bit but Ruby wouldn't lose."
"Wait wasn't Ruby alive before you were ten why didn't they know that you were the princess?" I ask trying to understand Jaylen's world as she does mine. "My mom kept me hidden until you were born. Ruby told mom that you were born and she needed to find you. She came back three weeks later with knowledge of your name, place, and race. It's very rare to be mates to anyone but a dragon, griffin, or human. When I was fourteen, Ruby finally give me your name and race. Ever since then I read everything about werewolves so when you found me I wasn't ignorant about your race and rules."
Jaylen smiles at me. Phoenixes are very confusing. I return her smile and pull her into my arms. "Tomorrow at noon is when your dual will take place. Since you were the one challenged you decide the rules and place." She smiles but instantly frowns. "I got to go Mom's calling me home. See you at noon." She kisses my cheek and jumps out the kitchen window. In a flash she is a phoenix and flies away. I walk to my room, to take a shower and go to bed.
I wake up early to sign the dual papers. Once done, I go down to have breakfast with the pack. When I get to the dining room everyone is chatting about the dual. About how Amnia is a fool because Jaylen didn't feel like a normal bird shifter but has much more power then what is on the surface. They already believe in Jaylen and knows she's the true Luna. I walk in and grab a plate. I feel a hand grab my arm. I turn and see Amnia. I glare at her and yack my arm free. I sit between John and Mitchell so she can't sit by me.
I continue to stick close to John and Mitchell leaving no room for Amnia to get into my time. Soon the noon bell rings out signaling the time for the dual. Everyone heads outside to witness the fight between Amnia and my mate. Amnia enters the arena. Jaylen was no where in sight. "Looks like she ran away." I'm about to growl at her, but an angelic voice beats me to it. "I'm right here." Jaylen walks out of the forest and walks into the arena.
"I'm going to beat you and show Asland that I'm his true mate not some stupid weak bird shifter." Instantly Jaylen's eyes become the rubies of before. And the gold feathers on her eyes lit up on fire. In fact all of her gold feathers are on fire. Everyone in the pack gasp in surprise. "I AM NO STUPID BIRD SHIFTER! I AM THE NEXT QUEEN OF THE PHOENIXES!" Ruby yells in anger.
I can see Amnia shaking in fear but that doesn't stop her from ignoring her wolf and attacks. Ruby doesn't even move to dodge. The flames start to move unnaturally around her. Ruby start to use the flames on her arm feathers as blades. The fight is so one sided. In the last ditch effort Amnia shifts in to her small gray wolf. Ruby laughs out, "so you want to fight in our natural forms. This even better for me. I can't even use a third of my power in this form." With that fire engulfed her. The pack start to panic like I did at first until they saw the beautiful fiery white and gold phoenix.
Everyone gasps once more, for this is their first time truly seeing her true form. The flames instantly enlarged and turns into inferno tornadoes circling Ruby as she flies five feet in the air. Amnia froze with her tail in between her legs. I see pure rage in Ruby's eyes. Ruby let's a war cry. 'Something doesn't feel right.' Claude says scared. I feel it too, something about her eyes and fires doesn't feel right. "You must calm her down!" I turn at the new voice. There behind the pack is a young woman probably twenty or so. She had red and orange feathers that are on her arms and chest just like Jaylen, but unlike Jaylen she had a red skirt instead of pants.
"How do,I do that?" The lady gives me a warm smile. "You are Asland are you not?" She asks like she already knew the answer. "Yes, I am." She nods like I answered my own question. 'We're her mate stupid.' So I don't know how to calm a phoenix. Wait of course, I didn't need to know. Just beginning her mate means that I can calm her down. I run towards her. The fire flies towards me like it is going to attack me so I brace for it, but they instantly wrap around me like they are to protect me. I shake my head clear and continue my run towards Ruby as the fire circle around me. Once I am close enough I jump and grab onto her neck. Ruby instantly quiets down and the fire turns back into her gold feathers.
