Chapter 16 - Fire of death

It's now been a week after I've marked Jaylen and it's been the happiest time in my life. Lilly grown very fond of Jaylen as well as the pack. Even though the pack feared Ruby's training they always go back and have her train them. In fact I had to join. I tried my hardest not too but Ruby refuses to let me off the hook. She said that because I'm her mate I had to do the training even more so then the pack.

Let me tell you it was a nightmare. She had a ball of fire chasing you while you run. Under and above you while you do push-ups. This fire I wasn't amunted to it. She calls it the inner fire. She draw the fire from you. Ruby isn't the trainer the fire is. The fire knew your limitations, strength and weaknesses. Everyone has became a lot stronger. I'd like to see the rouges attack us now.

Right now I'm doing paperwork. Jaylen is laying on the couch reading a book. Jaylen left a couple of times. She usually came back with snacks for me and her. "Jaylen do you want to go get some fresh air with me?" I ask wanting to get out of the office. "Sure, I'd love to." She puts a bookmark in and sets the book down. She gets up and walks up to me. I sign the paper I am on and sat the pen down. I get up and grab her hand. We walk into the elevator and click the first floor.

We exit the elevator and head outside. Jaylen saw mom and head over to her. "Hi Ma, how are you?" Mom turns and smiles. "Jay dear, it's so lovely to see you. I'm doing just great. How are you two doing?" I smile at her, "we're good. In fact we're going on a walk to get some fresh air." Mom smiles and bid us well. I grab Jaylen's hand and head to the woods.

Walking through the woods with Jayden is very nice. Jaylen always stops to smell the flowers. "Asland, where are we going." I shrug, "no where really. Just walking and enjoying the nice weather. Instead of being cooped up in that stuffy office all day." She gives me an evil grin. "We could always train." I chill went down my spine. The new training was great at getting us physically strong but very bad for us mentally.

"You said that you'll only train us three times a week." She nods, "but that's only for the pack. You on the other hand need even more training then they do." Ruby's voice comes out at the end. She rubs her hand against my chest. "Through I believe you're very strong, but you've not yet reached your potential." Ruby purrs in my ear. Man she's makes me crazy. I step back and grab her chain. "Ruby you are a crazy hard trainer. Through that's what I like about you." I lean in and kiss her.

She pulls back and gives a warm smile showing that Jaylen has reappeared. "Let's continue our walk." She smiles and hooks arms with me. I love how peaceful the forest is. The birds chirping, the gentle wind blowing into the leaves, the squirrels scurrying about in the trees, and my beautiful mate besides me. What could go wrong?

Suddenly Jaylen jumps in front of me. Instantly the world goes in slow motion as her scream fills my ears. Jaylen grabs my face with tears in her eyes. "I love you." She whispers pain clear in her voice and blood spilling out of her mouth. I soon see a piece of metal protruding out of her chest. That's when it hits me, Jaylen was shot with a silver tip arrow. A golden flame engulfs her. It isn't her shifting flame. It disappears instantly with a blast.

I fell to my knees at a pile of ashes with a broken arrow on either side on the pile. With tears in my eyes I scoop up some of the ashes. "Please no, no no. NO!" I let out a howl of pain and morning. I sat there letting the tears fall, for my world is taken. My sun has fallen, my soul broken and my heart shattered. The forest is deadly silent as if it morn for her as well. The gentle breeze brush away the ash.

Panic clenches onto my heart. I quickly tore off my shirt and start scooping her ashes into it. Trying my hardest to gather all of it up. Once I felt like I couldn't get anymore. I tie my shirt around the ashes so the wind can't take them. I pick up the shirt and hug it as my heart breaks again. I feel many minds trying to contact me to find out why I'm mournful for they aren't yet connected to her. I block them and just sat there numbed to my surroundings. Even when it started to rain I stayed frozen to the spot.

I slowly get up and head back to the house. The rainstorm mirroring my heart. My feet drag in the muddy ground as I walk to the pack house. The shirt clenched between my arms. I get home and not caring that I'm bringing mud into the house I just walk to the elevator. I go to scan my hand and see it covered in dirt and ash. My mate's ashes. Tears once again sting my eyes as they pour out. The doors open and I walk in. I click the tenth floor and lean my head above the panel and return my arm around the ashes.

The elevator's doors open. I walk into the dark office. A flash of lightning lights it up. The desk is once again full of papers to be read and signed. I ignore it and walk to the hallway and enter an empty room. I set the shirt down on the floor and went into the control room. Opening the list I turn off my elevator and all electricity on my floor. I then go into the kitchen and grab the small table. I dragged it into the room with her ashes. I put the table in the center of the room. I grab her and lay her onto the table. I untie the soaking wet shirt and I am surprise to find the ashes are still dry.
