I stayed silent until I heard the footsteps approaching. A gargantuan shadow loomed over me, enhanced by the light within the hospital hallway. I continued to maintain silence although it was growing more difficult by the second. The fear of death overwhelmed all other emotions bestowed upon me. The urge to shriek in terror was tantalizing however I knew if I made a sudden movement he would finish me right then and there.
"End it quickly." Charlie whispered, "Don't let him suffer"
Although I much appreciated his kindness in wanting to end my life quickly, I didn't have the chance to thank him then and there, since presumably if I did, I would be murdered instantaneously. I continued observing the shadow a little longer.
The peculiar thing was, The shadow seemed off. There seemed not to be a head, but instead, a long twisting and turning snake head. I deemed this as impossible at the moment but would soon regret the decision.
"Shut your mouth fool!" The man whispered menacingly, "One ore word out of you and I will murder you along with this boy. Although to this day, I still really doubt it, I felt as though his anxiety was coming off of him and entering me, as if anxiety was transferable.
I saw the shadow raise what seemed to be a knife and prepared to strike. However, raising his arm would leave him wide open, wide enough for even a fool to strike. I quickly pulled the needle out of my neck, since I had interpreted it would be there, similar to my last encounters with Charlie, and stuck is straight at his head.
He let out an ear piercing shriek which echoed through the hallways shaking the building from within.
"YOU DIRTY MORTAL!" he shrieked. "YOU DARE STAB ME WITH A WEAPON!"
I stayed silent.
"ANSWER ME!" he yelled. "TURN AROUND AND FACE ME!"
"Maybe he's still asleep." Charlie advised, "he might have been sleep moving." he continued unsure, and confident."
"Sleep moving my ass!" the man yelled.
In that short moment of time, many things were going through my head. How did I get into this position? I asked myself. Am I going to die here without knowing who I really am, and no knowing who or what I was? Can I survive this? However all of my thoughts came to a sudden halt. In front of me, sat an IV.
He began moving the blade downward towards my face only to be intercepted my an IV. I quickly pushed both the IV and the blade backwards pushing the man to a wall. Then I proceeded to turn around.
His face was like none I had seen before, that I could recall at the time. He had a hideous snake head with green slimy scales and red piercing eyes which, when I made contact with, sent shivers down my spine. He had the body of a strong man, but the arms of a gorilla. His legs seemed off too, but I couldn't determine that at the time.
Quickly, I stumbled out of the hospital bed, while holding the IV and pinned him to the wall by his snakelike head with all my strength. He dropped his blade on the ground which sounded oddly hollow as it hit the ground.
"How did you know where to aim?" he demanded half chocked from the IV.
"Honestly," I replied mockingly. "It was quite simple. Judging from your strides in the hallway, I could already tell your legs were long since the strides you took were half the amount Charlie took." I explained waving my head at Charlie.
"Then, when you were entering my room, I noticed your body shape was abnormally large; however, I could not deem this completely accurate since shadows can be stretched and bent by light so naturally I had to compare the ratios of your legs to your head which proved the shadow measurements were unmistakable." I continued. "Before you were about to kill me," I revealed glancing at the blade on the ground, "I saw you have an abnormally shaped head so I knew where to pin you, and also by raising your blade in the air, you split the air when preparing to strike, causing a quiet whooshing sound, so I could already interpret you were using a blade."
The snake man's eyes seemed to be glowing with hatred and annoyance. "Then how did you know when I was going to stab you?" he asked with his last few breaths.
I sighed. "Man you're really dumb aren't you." I shook my head sadly. "The size of your blade could already be determined my the ratio of the shadows, however I could not determine the speed and velocity of the knife. So i guess it was either pure instinct or luck that I escaped." I confessed.
"You were wiling to bet your life on some luck or instinct?" he postulated, his voice now hoarse and dry. "You really are some kid, too bad you won't be able to share that talent any longer."
At that moment, I felt confused and thought he had said something wrong, but then that all changed in a split second.
"Charlie," the snake man rasped smiling evilly, "finish the job."
Suddenly I felt the mans body go limp and I turned my head to face Charlie.
