Chapter 29; better than no shot

I was left with the Glock 43 while John walked in front of me. There was no arguing with him when it came to my safety. Trust me, I tried but he is firm with his decision to keep me safe. Sometimes I think John is really my father in my past life for him to care for me this way. It can't be just because he owes my father, or because he is Dad's best friend. This man will risk his life for me, he'll take a bullet for me if he has to. I've seen it with my own eyes before and he's doing it again.
We found Kon easily, it wasn't hard when all the gun fires were aimed at him.
''Who are you with?'' John whispered yell against the rain of fire.
''It's Kon.'' I took a rifle from the dead man close to where we were hiding, checked its ammo, and took the extra magazine from his holder. ''We have to help him.''
''Why is he helping you?'' my question earlier but all I know is that I trust Kon. He might have concealed his identity but I did the same with him.
''No clue. But he got me here'' without waiting for John's consent, I fired my gun while my body was stooped down until I reached a good spot where I could see Kon. He was cornered between container vans in the middle of the warehouse. Climbing up two sets of stairs, I started firing my gun, my shoulders following every recoil, and eliminated the threat to Kon's life one by one.
Another set of bullets was being fired from the east and I saw John doing the same. Kon was now using his fist and a knife to attack the enemy closing in on him. Something is off with his movement, he wasn't moving from that spot since I got a sight of him.
I signaled John that I'll go and get Kon. He shook his head in disapproval but I already jumped in the closet container van in front of me, still firing my gun while John took down each threat behind me.
It didn't take long until I reached Kon. His right leg was bleeding hard. I handed him my gun and took off my belt, circling it just above where he was shot.
''We need to get out of here.'' Kon yelled, ''it will be harder for us to get out when their back up arrives.''
''We can get out where we came from but it's a long shot,''
''It's better than no shot'' I can hear the mockery in his voice. That's a good sign but he's losing a lot of blood the length of our stay here.
John gave me the signal that it's clear for us to move, I let Kon's arms rest over my shoulders while I held the Glock with my left while he held the assault rifle in his right. Our aim wasn't precise but it was enough to get us through the rain of gun fires.
Perspiration building on my skin, my breath was even yet my heart was beating radically. The feeling I've forgotten, the excitement on the line of fire, the feel of seeing my enemy drop dead on the ground while we continue to reach the exit.
John was moving at the same pace as us, we can hear a few cars screeching outside the warehouse but we're already out before they could get a hold of us.
The cold wind of Athens fanned my heated skin, drying the sweat that escaped my pores but we're not done yet. Getting to our getaway vehicle wasn't as easy as it seems. John caught up with us and now firing from behind us while we walked leisurely to Kon's car.
I placed Kon on the passenger side, he groaned in pain but continued to fire back on the men that followed us out of the warehouse. Rounding the car, I slid in the driver seat and John got in the back seat, opening the sunroof, firing at our enemies.
My adrenaline was getting the best out of me, Kon's car roared forward, making the two curse under their breath.
I giggled, ''sorry. Buckle up…''
''I can't buckle up you child!'' John retorted against the sound of the AK 47. ''I'm out!'' he slumped down his body on the beach seat.
'Amo in the duffle bag'' Kon replied to him, reloading his assault rifle. ''Can't you go any faster, agápi mou'' he smirked. (my love)
My brows creased, isn't my driving not fast enough for him. I'm going 120 mph on his Ferrari already. And who the hell brings such flashy cars on a rescue mission? Only Kon.
''Challenge accepted, amore'' I heard John cruse behind us and secured his seatbelt before I could announce to buckle up once again. (love)
''This is your fault if we die, ragazzo'' John groaned. (boy)
Kon chuckled, ''I doubt that, vecchio uomo.'' (old man)
Oh, these two. Do they have to argue with each other while we're on the brink of losing our sorry lives?
''Hold on fucking tight!'' I shifted gears when we finally hit the city - I wonder how Damien is going to clean this mess in the morning - taking a hard right which made Kon hit his head on the window. He dropped his gun on the floor.
''Gam' he cursed. (bugger)
I giggled, making another hard turn on the left, the speed of his car accelerating to 200, the wheel screeching on the road. We are making such a mess in this beautiful city yet I feel no remorse. I missed the fun of these lives. This is better than cutting off dicks!
''Jesus Christ!'' This is the first time I'm hearing John fill his curse bucket for two years in just a day. I'm not that reckless when it comes to driving, I used to join illegal racing with my brothers in New York and Sicily before.
