It wasn't long before the girls arrived at Ava's mansion of a house.
Emma rang the doorbell and they stood hand-in-hand, waiting for someone to let them in.
It felt as though they were here to ask permission to marry, but Olivia supposed that would be a sight to see for another day.
She really did want to marry Emma.
"Hey! You made it," Ava greeted them, smoothing out her wrinkled shirt.
"What took you so long to get the door?" Olivia smirked as Ava brushed her hair with her fingers.
"Nothing," Ava shushed her quickly. "Now, why did you bring for me, mamas?"
Emma and Olivia both held up a carton of beer each. "Beer," they said in sync.
"Mhmm," Ava took the beer from them and stepped aside for them to enter.
"I never get used to seeing this," Emma said in awe.
Ava chuckled. "And how do you reckon Ms. Jauregui feels?" she gestured to the raven-haired girl.
Olivia had her eyes fixated on every little detail of the room they were in, which wasn't even the biggest of them all.
"I could never imagine living here,"
"Well, you're going to have to start imagining then," Ava started. "You're coming over more often, I'm sure," she winked, causing Olivia to blush deeply.
"Are the others here yet?" Emma asked, looking around for their other friends.
Ava shook her head. "No, but they're on their way," she pointed out to the backyard. "Seth's out back. Why don't you guys go say hi?"
And that they did.
"Hi Seth," Emma greeted, taking her usual seat on one of the lounge chairs.
"Seth!" Olivia squealed, giving him a big hug. They haven't seen each other since summer break had begun.
Although Olivia hated to admit it, she missed the guy. He was her first real friend and got her through all those sufferable school lectures. Not to mention all her other classes, too.
"Hey Jauregui," Seth hugged her back. "I missed you,"
"I missed you too! How've you been?"
Emma watched as her girlfriend conversed with her classmate.
She never really spoke to Seth. It wasn't because she didn't like him or anything, but mainly because she didn't have a reason to.
Kate never let her, anyway.
Emma chuckled lightly. It was funny; she was the daughter of the school's owner but she let her prick of a 'friend' boss her around for years.
'Never again,' she thought to herself.
When they went back to school, Kate was getting nothing short of...well, the short straw.
"Thanks for helping Ava with all the refreshments," Emma chimed in.
"Not a problem," Seth replied, and Olivia swore she saw a blush creep up on his cheeks.
"You really like her, huh?" she noted.
Seth could only nod in response.
"Treat her well, or this won't be the last you see of me," Emma said sternly.
Seth gulped.
Emma could be scary when she wanted to.
She didn't like the impression it gave people of her, so she hardly scolded anyone. That was probably another one of the reasons why she was such a pushover around Kate.
"She's kidding," Olivia said, trying to lighten the mood.
"I'm really not, but you catch my drift," Emma said, taking a sip of the lemonade Ava had briefly entered to give her.
Yeah, Seth reckoned that's pretty scary.
"I'll treat her like the queen she is," Seth nodded.
"Mm, you guys talking about something?" Ava asked as she stepped out into the backyard, pretending as though she hadn't heard their conversation.
She took a seat on Seth's lap, sipping on her cocktail.
"You guys sure move quick," Olivia laughed.
"Speak for yourself," Ava hushed her, wiggling her eyebrows in Emma's direction.
A deep blush found its way to the brunette's already rosy cheeks.
"What time do you think Mia and Ally will get here?"
Ava shrugged. "Hard to tell, Chancho. They're never on time,"
Olivia's laughter was music to Emma's ears. It warmed her heart and gave the girl the fuzziest feeling.
"How 'bout a game of truth or dare before they get here?" Seth suggested.
"Oh no no no," Emma said, shaking her head as she stood up. "Those never end well...in my experience at least,"
Olivia shuddered at the thought of truth or dare. If the bad experience Emma was referring to was anything remotely similar to what she'd experienced...she didn't want to think about it.
"Alright, I won't push...but I'll have you ladies know I'm a brilliant game master," Seth said proudly. "With me around, ain't nothing bad's gonna happen to you,"
Olivia and Emma exchanged glances, as though having a silent conversation about the topic at hand.
"I guess a couple of rounds wouldn't hurt..." Emma spoke slowly.
"Great!" Seth clapped his hands together.
"But," Olivia interjected. "I'd much rather play truth or drink,"
"You're no fun!" Ava whined.
"Aww come on! I'm sure we've already done most of the dares before. What's the fun in seeing it happen again?" Olivia wiggled her eyebrows.
That seemed to shut Ava up.
Emma let out a giggle. Her girlfriend sure knew how to handle herself.
And boy, was she a handful.
"Okay then. Olivia, tell us about the first time you met Emma,"
Olivia smiled upon hearing Seth's question. Ava tilted her head.
"Why are you smiling about the whole 'I-got-slapped-at-the-lockers-on-my-first-day' thing?"
Emma sunk deeper into the lounge chair. She prayed that the ground would swallow her up.
"Actually...wow, I guess I've never told anyone this," Olivia chuckled lightly. "The first time Emma and I met wasn't actually at the lockers...it was in the girls' bathroom,"
"I like where this is going,"
Olivia smacked Seth's arm lightly. "Not like that! Actually, she was..." she looked into her girlfriend's brown orbs, asking for permission to continue.
Emma nodded.
"She was crying. I never found out why, but I gave her some water and a banana...and that was the end of that,"
"But...you never knew it was her until you started working together?" Ava asked out of curiosity.
Olivia nodded in response. "Absolutely right,"
"Okay Chancho, I've got a question for you then," Ava turned her attention to Emma. "If you're comfortable sharing, of course. If not," she poured a shot of tequila and placed the small glass in front of her friend. "This is all yours,"
Emma waited patiently for the question to be asked.
"Why were you crying that day?"
Yeah...no. Emma didn't think she was ready to share that yet. Not because she was uncomfortable with the topic, but mainly because she wanted all the girls to be there when she told them.
Also, she wasn't sure what would happen after she told them.
So…
She picked up the shot glass and downed the tequila, wincing slightly as the warm liquid slid down her throat.
