Chapter 26 - twenty six

After a few more rounds of truth or drink, — and perhaps, one too many drinks — Mia and Ally finally showed up.

"About time!" Ava groaned dramatically, rushing to help them with the snacks they brought.

Seeing as how Ava and Seth had already gone out to get refreshments...and how the Jensen-Jauregui household had also brought beer...they were definitely set for tonight.

Jensen-Jauregui. Emma liked the sound of that. Well, she supposed Jauregui-Jensen worked too.

Or maybe, she'd take Olivia's last name? Or she'd take hers?

Emma shook her head in a physical attempt to get the thoughts out of her mind.

'Not right now,' she mentally scolded herself.

"Damn, y'all brought a lot of stuff," Olivia nodded her head at the food.

"We were hoping it'd make up for us being so late," Ally joked.

"You know I wouldn't care anyway," Ava playfully smacked her friend's shoulder.

"So, this must be the Seth Miller I keep hearing about," Mia said as she walked up to shake his hand.

Seth got out of his seat immediately and took Mia's invitation for a handshake, graciously offering her his seat after.

"Mia, he's in like, half of our classes," Olivia scrunched her nose.

"I know, I know," the girl raised her hands in defence. "I've just always wanted to say that,"

Everyone laughed at their interaction.

"Well," Ava said, looking at the time. It was 6:30pm, so they had a couple of hours before everyone else would arrive.

Unfortunately for them, there wasn't exactly much to do that wouldn't burn them out before the actual party started.

"How 'bout we watch a movie?" Emma suggested.

"Oh yeah, that sounds like a decent idea," Mia nodded in agreement.

"We can use the home theatre," Ava said. "Nice going, Jensen,"

Emma smiled proudly and leaned back into her girlfriend.

She heard a low groan emit from the older brunette's lips and smirked.

"Feel good?"

Olivia could only nod in response. Emma laughed and got up, holding her hand out for her girlfriend to take.

"You'll have to wait till tonight,"

It was a good thing the others had gone ahead before them. Emma knew they'd laugh if they say the short encounter that just took place.

•••

"What should we watch?" Seth asked, preparing popcorn for the group.

"Damn, it really looks like an actual theatre in here," Olivia looked around at the spacious dark room with the big screen in front.

"Yeah, unfortunately we don't get to use it often because we don't have the time," Ava replied, looking over Seth's shoulder as they searched for a good movie.

"How about a horror movie?" Seth asked mischievously.

"I'm down," Mia shrugged.

"Same here, whatever y'all want," Ally nodded in agreement.

Emma and Olivia nodded their heads simultaneously. They weren't too picky on the film; they probably weren't going to pay much attention anyway.

Emma still hadn't managed to get any shuteye since their time last night.

"Hmm, not the response I was hoping for," Seth shook his head.

Ally laughed. "What do you mean?"

"I was hoping you guys would be more scared," he said honestly. "Makes watching a horror film more fun,"

The girls laughed at his response. Well, he wasn't wrong.

"I'm sure they'll enjoy it anyway, babe. What are we watching?" Ava asked.

"I was thinking...In The Tall Grass," Seth looked at the others for approval.

"Ooh, that sounds interesting," Mia scooted closer to Ally for warmth. "What's it about?"

"Something about a brother and sister going into the grass to...save some boy?" Seth read through the film synopsis.

"So...evil grass," Ally noted.

"Evil grass," Seth repeated.

"I'm down for that," Olivia said, stroking Emma's hair. The younger girl had her head on her girlfriend's chest. The movie hadn't even started, but Olivia's fingers tangled in her hair was doing wonders in putting her to sleep.

"Alright, let's watch it then," Ava clapped. "Mila," she called out to Emma, referring to her by her middle name. "Do you wanna take a nap upstairs?"

"Mm, I'm good," Emma mumbled, sinking further into her girlfriend's lean frame.

Ava chuckled. Olivia mouthed a quick 'thank you' with regards to the offer.

After a minute or two of buffering, the movie started playing. It wasn't much longer before everyone had their hands around one another, eyes glued to the screen.

Well, they'd shut their eyes occasionally because of the jump scares, but they were fine.

Olivia, on the other hand, had her attention focused on the sleeping girl in her arms.

She'd seen the movie before anyway.

"I love you, Emma Cassidy Jensen," she whispered, leaning down to kiss her girlfriend's forehead.

At that very moment, Emma turned to get comfortable and Olivia's lips came into contact with the younger brunette's soft ones.

Olivia smiled. Even in her sleep, Emma knew just how to get to her.

"I love you too," Emma mumbled, pulling Olivia in for a deeper kiss.

The green-eyed-girl happily obliged, but pulled away after remembering where they were.

"Not now, my love," she kissed Emma's forehead. "Patience is a virtue,"

"Mm," Emma groaned, but ceased her advancements anyway.

"Good girl,"

"Are you guys even watching the film?" Mia turned around to look at them.

Olivia laughed as Emma feigned sleep. "No, not really," she replied to the chocolate-skin girl.

"So...you're just talking to yourself?" Mia raised an eyebrow, gesturing to Emma's sleeping figure.

"I swear, she was awake," Olivia chuckled lightly. Emma always had her way of getting her in 'trouble'.

"Mm, okay honey," Mia turned her attention back to the screen.

•••

"Baby," Olivia gently shook Emma awake. After pretending to be asleep, she'd actually fallen victim to the tiredness in her body.

"Hmm," Emma brushed her girlfriend aside and tried to get comfortable.

"The movie's over," Olivia tried again. This time, she pressed her cold fingers against the warmth of Emma's exposed skin.

That sure did the trick.

"Hey!" Emma jolted awake, almost butting heads with Olivia. Thankfully, the other girl managed to dodge in time.

"What? You didn't want to get up,"

Emma was about to reply, but was stopped by Seth's question.

"How'd you like the film?"

"Uh," Emma tried to formulate a coherent sentence, but that wasn't working very well for her.

"She basically-" Mia started to say.

"-Really enjoyed the movie! Especially that twist with at the end with the baby? Wow," Olivia stepped in before Mia told everyone that Emma had actually been asleep the entire duration of the movie.

"Y-Yeah," Emma nodded in agreement, though she had absolutely no idea what Olivia was saying.

Mia smirked. She knew Olivia would save Emma's ass, that was why she begin to expose her friend in the first place.

Olivia would never let Emma get hurt. They all knew that much.

Even the little things showed how much Olivia did to make sure Emma had the best time in everything they did.

Exhibit A, they current encounter.

"Well, it's a good thing we decided to watch a movie," Ally said, checking the time on her phone.

"She's right. Just in time for the party," Ava replied, clapping her hands together in approval.

As if on cue, the doorbell rang, signalling the start of a crazy night ahead.
