As much as I didn't want it to, school had started back up again. I let out a sigh as I walked to the building. Due it still being winter, it was pretty cold out. I could feel a breeze blowing on my face and a bit of pain on my fingers due to the temperature. I put my hands in my coat pocket, hoping that would help warm them up. It didn't really do much, unfortunately.
When I finally made it to school, I went inside and just walked through the hallway, hands in my pockets, like I usually did when I was here. The halls were as noisy as they always were in them morning. As I walked by the cafeteria, I got a look at the clock and was able to see I had a few minutes left until I had to get to class.
"How have you been?" a familiar voice asked.
"Jon?" I said, turning around, "What are you doing here?"
"Just came to check on the adventurers." he said, "And also meet with the newcomers."
"Oh, right." I said, "You talked about them at the Christmas party."
"So you do remember." said Jon.
"I thought you were the forgetful one?" I said, "Anyways, who are they?"
"I don't want to ruin the surprise." replied Jon.
"So, how's it going?" one of my friends who just randomly came up behind me said.
"JESUS!" exclaimed Jon, when he saw Donovan behind me.
"What do you want?" I said, not even fazed.
"You're no fun." said Donovan.
Jon cleared his throat.
"A-anyways, I need to go meet with the others." he said, before leaving.
"What's with him?" asked Donovan.
"I wouldn't worry about it," I replied, "he's weird."
I then looked up at the clock.
"Oh, crap." I said, "I need to get going!"
After that, I power-walked to my first class of the day. When lunch finally came, I was eating with my friends like usual, but something caught my interest. Off in the distance, I could see Jon talking to someone. I was too curious, so I got myself up and went over to where he was.
"She's here, isn't she?" asked Jon.
"Who are you talking about?" replied the woman he was talking to.
As I got closer, I realized that it was Cerise.
"What are you two talking about?" I asked.
"JESUS!" exclaimed Jon.
"I'm not Jesus." I replied.
"Did you need something, Ron?" asked Jon.
"Who are you talking about?" I asked.
"He seems to think my apprentice is at your school." said Cerise.
"Well, considering you're here and all," I said, "wouldn't that mean she's here?"
"Hmm, maybe you do have a brain in there, after all..." commented Cerise.
"Hey, are you calling me an idiot?" I replied.
"So, is she here or not?" asked Jon.
"I'm not telling you who it is." said Cerise.
"That doesn't really answer the question." I replied.
"Does that mean you admit she's here?" asked Jon.
"You can interpret it however you'd like." said Cerise, before walking off.
"What is with her?" I said.
"I don't think I'll ever understand that woman." said Jon, "She only ever shows up when she feels like it."
"Ah, there you are." said Lilith as she suddenly appeared before us.
"JESUS!" exclaimed Jon.
"Jesus still isn't here." I replied.
"You need to stop shouting." said Lilith, "You're gonna freak out the students here."
"Ah," I said, "how did you even get in here anyways?"
"Oh, we have some connections." said Jon.
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"It's a part of our job," he said, "that's why we have permission to be here."
"So, you're here to recruit the new ones or something?" I said.
"Something like that." said Lilith.
"Anything else you'd like to ask?" said Jon.
"No," I said, "I think that will be it."
Time passed and I was in my last class. However, I wasn't really paying attention to what Mr. Jerry was saying. My mind was just stuck on the fact that Jon, Lilith, and Cerise had come over to my school. I knew why they had shown up, but that didn't make it any less weird to me. When class was over, I grabbed my stuff and was planning to get out of the building right away.
"You in a hurry?" asked Mikaela, who had just approached my desk.
"I just want to go home." I replied.
"I saw you talking to those weird people earlier." she said.
"Weird people?" I replied.
"Just what have you gotten yourself into?" asked Mikaela.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"You'll find out... eventually." she answered.
"Why can't you just give me a normal answer?" I asked.
"I could," she replied, "but I don't feel like it!"
With that, she walked away and I just stood there, unsure of how I should be reacting to our short conversation. I shook my head and then packed the rest of my things before getting myself out of the building. When I left the front door, I saw Jon talking to Elijah.
"You two know each other?" I said, walking up to them.
"Ah, yes." said Jon, "We had something to discuss."
"Is it what I think it is?" I asked.
"Perhaps," said Jon, "what do you think it is?"
"You know what I'm talking about." I said.
"What are you guys talking about?" asked Elijah, "Porn or something?"
"What!?" I exclaimed, "No!"
"Well, why are you being so secretive?" he asked.
"So," I said, trying to change the topic, "will he be coming with us?"
"I'm not really supposed to give any details." said Jon, "You'll just have to wait until then."
"Alright," I said, "but from what I can tell, the newcomers are going to be people I already know."
This was when I thought about what Mikaela said. I then wondered if she could be one of the newcomers.
"How many newcomers will there be?" I asked.
"I can't tell you that either." said Jon.
"Stop trying to get secret information out of him." a female voice I'm familiar with said.
I turned around to see Erica.
"I'm sorry for wanting to know things." I said.
"Save it for the courtroom." she said.
"I really hope I don't have to be in court all the time." I replied.
"Well," said Jon, "we better get going."
"O-okay." I said.
Jon and Erica left together.
"What the heck just happened?" asked Elijah.
