After the first week from waking up as a skeleton, Z was unable to keep track of the amount of time that went by. He had continued to explore the town of which he lived getting about 8 blocks by now. he initially tried to set up traps to help capture creatures to ease the need to fight but that backfired horribly. When the traps actually managed to catch something, instead of just pissing it off, other creatures would come devour it before he could get there and then he would have to wait for them to leave since they were either a lot of them or at least as strong as that damned dog.
Though hunting wise he was not doing much better. He only managed to hunt rabbits this entire time. Not that he didn't want to hunt other things but whenever he tried to fight other things they were either part of groups of four plus monsters or he just felt fear looking at them. Not as much fear as the bird but still he knew they would kill him quite easily. The biggest thing is a frog in the pond at the park but thankfully it barely leaves the water.
The worse thing that has happened in this time was definitely when he actually managed to catch and isolate a squirrel monster. Z was just about to go and try and kill it when a certain bird came and ate it. Needless to say, besides scared to the point he was thankful he doesn't have to wear brown pants anymore, he was pissed the bird stole the one damn animal that he found alone. Of course rabbits seem to be everywhere and even go alone quite a bit but he is tired of rabbit.
The gems that the rabbits have don't even do anything to him anymore. That was the only benefit he had from having to hunt so many. So Z was able to confirm that he was faster than before from eating those gems but it wasn't even enough to be considered terrifying. Hell the rabbits he ran into were still faster sometimes but those ones were rare and tended to be stronger than the rest.
Well he was going to fight something else today. He has managed to find a few more knives and some gardening tools. He even found a wood axe that he uses though a bit awkwardly. Needless to say he found something that lives alone and doesn't make him feel like he will die in five seconds of it being found. Though that is not to say he was going to be stupid and charge it like an idiotic barbarian. After all it is a fucking hermit crab, so yeah, armor.
This entire time he was in his house preparing to leave since it was a few blocks away from his house and Z learned that some creatures are actually active only for a few hours a day. The hermit crab is one of those and it is always around dusk that it comes out. As for why Z has no idea but hey he isn't a biologist so who gives a fuck.
As he steps out of his house though a surprise was waiting for him. A plant that has been growing for a while right where he drains all the rabbits has bloomed. Also it grew from the size of a tulip to something big enough to be used as an umbrella overnight. Yeah Z did just leave the cores there last night since they do nothing for him now but still this is a little ridiculous. The best part is that this flower's petals was mostly blood red with tinges of black in it and a line of deep purple around the edges and they are arranged similar to that of a dandelion.
At this sudden surprise was nothing compared to what happened next. Z suddenly felt a sharp pain as the flower decided to be a thorn in his side today. Like there was literally a thorn that extended from the flower into Z's ribcage and he was at least 6 feet from the damn thing. Okay the damn thing that he so painstaking raised when he realized the seeds landed there and were just so coincidentally bathed in the blood of monsters every few days is trying to kill him. Well time to pluck a flower.
Taking his axe he goes to cut the thorn attached to him and it snaps fairly easily only to be replaced as dozen now shoot towards him. Z immediately jumps back to try and gain more time but finds out that that first spear was just on the edge of its range. Sighing he collects himself as he figures out what to do to fix this.
"If only that damn crab was the other way I wouldn't have gone out my back door," Z thinks to himself looking at his rib. A few small cracks spread from a hole where he was pierced clean through. "Well at least only one seed grew I just hope that other one doesn't get damaged it was finally making progress." His eyes moved to a corner after the last statement staring at was looked like an azure vine that was roughly half a foot long.
Picking up a rock Z decides to try and test the defenses by hurtling right at the flower. It made it halfway with no reaction before being pierced so much so fast it turned into dust. Needless to say Z was not that thrilled to fight a flower anymore but knew he couldn't let it grow anymore. After all this thing was in his backyard and was definitely a hazard. He didn't want to have to move just because a daisy wanted to kill him.
With a sigh Z goes into his house and gets his last resort. He has been meaning to test this for a while since he found it but he really didn't have much choice. He was not going near the thorny grinder he just saw. So coming back outside carrying something that has caused much controversy throughout history of many modern nations, a rifle. To be specific a replica M1Grand marksman rifle.
Aiming at the stem, thankful that as a kid his grandfather taught him how to shoot, he takes one shot. The bang echoes in the neighborhood and some panicked cries of nearby beasts respond to the strange sound. Thankfully the sound of a bullet triggers fear in most of the beasts around here for some reason so they mostly run from the sound. He had tested that in the park which was how he found one of the few that took it as a challenge, the frog.
As for the flower it had a small bullet hole in it that was leaking a bloodlike fluid. Its petals rustled in anger as a small hole appeared where Z took aim. Needless to say the damage is lacking considerably but the fact that it damages it is at least something. To be truthful Z was terrified that firearms would be worthless with how the world has changed but hey at least it hurts a plant. Taking aim for the next shot Z quickly fires shot after shot until the stem is barely holding together. The flower, at this point, does something unexpected, it charges him.
"OH FUCK" is all that Z has time to say before the thorns are coming at him again. He manages to get another shot off off but the one thorn blocks and pierces the bullet before more destroy the rifle. Ironically the flower cannot stop charging and Z immediately draws a knife and in one swift continuous motion cuts it in half. The flower stops moving instantly and quickly withers into nothing leaving only a blood red and dark green crystal.
Sighing Z picks up and eats it lamenting the lost of the M1Grand but goes back in his house feeling exhausted. So once again the world changes for Z with this new event but thankfully he wasn't really hurt this time though. Z failed to realize though that there were more seeds that received the same treatment and if one could move so could the others but thought that maybe that one consumed the others.
As he laid down to sleep after putting everything up properly from the extreme exhaustion that came out of nowhere. Z had one final thought in his head "So killer plants are a thing, great."
