Chapter 13 - Xura The New Paladin

Xura rushed back to Xerxes side, as she did she noticed that his scythes had disappeared from his hands and were now sewn back into the Iron Maiden. Xerxes had fallen to his knees, and seemed to be completely exhausted. "Xerxes are you alright?". She said as she wrapped him in her small arms. "I'm fine. Just tired that's all. That is the power of the cloak. It steals my life in order to power the scythes. Unfortunately it seems that I can only sustain them for a short time". Just as he finished speaking the two heard the blood curdling screech of the wyvern. "Your battle with Gabriel must have startled the creature". Xura said as she pulled Xerxes to his feet. "This isn't good Xura. I am too tired to beat this creature...listen to me. You can run I will fight it for as long as I can". The wyvern was now visible as it made its descent from the mountain. The beast was huge. They could feel the pressure with each flap of its wings that had a roughly two hundred foot span. "Xura in our current state we can not win. There is no point in both of us dying here". {Radiant Light} Xura's spell wrapped Xerxes in a warm healing light, but Xerxes still could not stand. The wyvern was now circling above the two preparing to land. "Come on Xerxes", Xura yelled, "I believe in you". "Xura you can't heal this. It's not that I sustained a lot of damage. My life force was merely placed into the Maiden, and the cloak is a part of me. It's not that I have that much missing life. The cloak is on some kind of cool down". The beast had now landed and had the two intruders placed directly in its gaze.

The wyvern reared back his head beginning its first attack. {Divine Protection} Xura, now trying her best to protect herself and Xerxes, inside a shield of pure light. The creature let out a blast of icy breath that swallowed the shield. It was as if the beasts breath was endlessly hammering against the light shield. Xura felt her mana fading and the shield began to crack, just as the wyvern's breath finally stared to fade. Csssssshhhh the shield shattered and the two were now vulnerable. "I won't let you die with me Xura. I'll do my best to buy you time to run". Xerxes said as he pushed himself away from Xura's arms. {Black Fire Bomb} Xerxes headed towards the monster giving everything he had left. {Hell Fire Blaze}, {Dark Explosion}. All his spells crashed directly into the beasts body, but it's scales were tough and Xerxes only managed to take about a quarter of its health before falling back to the ground. He turned his head to make sure Xura was headed to safety, but to his surprise she hadn't moved a muscle. "What is she doing? Is she in shock?" He thought to himself. "Run Xura!". He yelled, but it was as if she couldn't hear him at all. Suddenly another bolt of lightning struck down on Xura. Xura stepped out of the lightning now clad in white plate armor which bore a golden lion on each shoulder, and a sword that shined light all around her. In an instant she was there by Xerxes side ready to engage the wyvern. {God Flash Strike} Xura now attacking the beast as it let out a painful wail. "Well Xerxes are you just going to kneel there or are you going to fight? Aren't you a God after all?".

Xerxes rose to his feet once again. Xura had pierced his heart that was hard as stone, and brought a true smile to his face. Xerxes dug deep inside and found what he had been missing. "So that is it. I should have known". Xerxes said as he prepared himself to fight once more. "A God feeds on the people's beliefs in them. That is the key to their power, that is what sustains their life force. Thank you Xura. Now let us take this monsters head". {Ability Boost} Xerxes jumped high above the wyvern, {Meteor Strike}. A massive meteor came crashing down from the sky landing directly on the beasts back and wings. {Slice Of Light}. With these powerful attacks the wyvern body was crushed and it's head rolled in the adventurers direction. As they both stopped it by each placing a foot on the head, they clapped hands and said, " quest completed".
