Chapter 10 - Special Chapter III: Home Is Where The Head Is (Part 2)

The crime scene is still a blood bath even without the bodies in there.

"Where's the child now?" the inspector asked the nearby crime scene investigator.

"The child is in custody right now."

"Richard Meyer, an 8 yr. old boy, he's the only child of David and Chritine Meyer. Must've been a traumatic sight."

"So the killer was first seen by the child from the kitchen window, then when the father went to the kitchen the killer was already inside."

Ranvier walked around the living room then to the kitchen deep in thought, he's looking at the blood pool on the floor and the blood spatter on the wall making his way up to the ceiling.

"Inspector, I might have an idea on how tall the killer is."

The inspector walked towards Ranvier and looked up where Raniver is looking.

"See the blood on the ceiling? It must have been left by the first strike on the father. Which part of the body he was stuck?" Ranvier asked the crime scene investigator near him.

"He was struck on the left shoulder damaging the clavicle and the 2nd and 3rd rib. Most likely he was struck in front"

"Inspector if you may."

Ranvier positioned the inspector in front of him and looked around for a substitute axe. He saw a rolling pin and took it.

"Okay inspector, the killer struck the father here in the shoulders."

Ranvier raised the rolling pin and put on the inspector's left shoulder.

"Are you sure the killer is right handed?" The inspector asked Ranvier.

"The angle of the wound is inwards suggesting that the killer is right handed. Am I right?" He looked at the crime scene investigator to confirm it. The investigator nodded, Ranvier looked back at the inspector.

"After the first attack he withdrew the axe from the father's body, that's how the blood got into the ceiling."

"So how does this help in determining the height of the killer?"

"Relax inspector I'm not finished yet. Look at blood closely, they aren't scattered widely, if the height of the killer is let's say 5'6" the blood would go almost all the way across the room but in this case the blood is almost on aone place only meaning that he's around 6 foot or taller."

"How about the age?"

"Taking his height on account, he uses this to intimidate others. If he's around, let's say, late teens to early 20s, he needs to hold the axe with his two hands and the father could easily subdue him preventing the attack. He's probably the same age or older than the father."

"But if this is a serial killing where would he attack next?"

"I don't really know, but all we know for now is he strikes at night when the lights are out. But the chances of the power going out tonight are slim, so he needs to stage the lights to go out. If the weather continues there will be rain in the evening perfect for the killer to strike again."

"So we have no idea where he might kill next?"

Ranvier didn't respond, he's inside his mind sorting every bit of information about this case. He missed something, something that could point out where the suspect will go next.

"Inspector! I think I might have an idea, instead of waiting for the next attack we should find where he is hiding."

The inspector looked at Ranvier. He saw a wide smile that somehow feels familiar

"What?"

"I need you to find some cases similar to this."

"But didn't you say this is his first kill?"

"His first, yeah, but he was trying to relive the events from his childhood, which I assume similar to this."

"We don't have time for that, we need to find the next possible victim."

"Inspector I assure you, once we found the root of all of this. We can assure that no one will suffer again."

The inspector called someone on his phone and Ranvier went to the living room, trying to find something that would support the claims he had.

After a while the inspector called Ranvier and handed him the folders containing cases similar to what they have now.

"In September 9, 1983, a couple was murdered inside their house, headless with a child unharmed. In September 10, 1983, a similar MO was used to murder a couple inside their home, there were no other people in the house."

"The suspect in those cases was caught fleeing the scene of the crime. A neighbor saw a man entering the house of the second victim's house. The neighbor quickly called the police. He admitted doing these two crimes", the inspector said.

"The child that survived was an 8 year old boy, he was now 33 years old, he fits the profile. The address listed here is at the edge of the town near the forest entrance. His father worked as a lumberjack. That would explain the skills in handling an axe. Do you have his address now?"

"I'll have it checked", the inspector said.

A minute later the inspector returned.

"He's still in the same address." the inspector said.

"We should move quickly before it gets dark."

The police quickly moved out and drove to the address.

The police apprehended the killer named Robin Rodriguez. In the basement of the house the heads of his victims hang on the wall and the axe above the table covered in blood. The kid of the late victims were taken by his aunt.

Ranvier didn't bother coming with the inspector, he just walked away and started heading home. That was the last time Ranvier walked into the station and never came back. He never said goodbye to anyone, even to his friends. That night was his flight overseas, he will continue his studies there and get the medical attention his guardian needed.. He might return again sometime when things are a bit better, he still needs to find that person.
