~~This is a random chapter to explain Wren's ability to "Reach Out" as well as the spell she can do, in order to talk with people telepathically. (These are not her only abilities) This chapter takes place around the time Jayce comes to the temple.~~
As Wren was gathering the last of her things, she felt someone's presence coming closer. *KNOCK KNOCK* "Come in Jayce," there was a short pause, then Jayce opened the door with a blank expression. "H-How did you know it was me?" Wren stopped what she was doing and turned to face Jayce. "Long story short, people have different auras or, I suppose you could say it is a "vibe" or feeling, that they naturally give off. I am more sensitive to people's "vibes" and I can associate them with people I interact with." She expained with a small smile, before turning back around to finish packing her bag. "Is there something I can help you with Jayce?" Jayce snapped back to reality, "Oops, sorry Lady Wren. I uh-I wanted to check up on you. I know your usual guard is Michael, but I heard he and Ravi were busy. I just, I was in the area," he looked down with a slightly embarrassed look on his face as he scratched his head.
"That is very thoughtful Jayce. Thank you. Since you are here, I could use some help getting some items from town, if you are free?" Jayce looked up and nodded excitedly, "Yes Lady Wren of course." He eagerly grabbed her bag and began walking out the door. After a few more steps he stopped suddenly, and turned around, flushed. "I um- I am sorry. I don't even know where we are going and I-" Wren put her hand up to stop him from talking. "It is fine Jayce, no need to be so nervous. Friends help each other do they not?" He nodded in agreement, and shortly after, they left Wren's office.
..."If you are okay with it, I would like to use my abilities and teleport to a farther end of town. Does this make you uncomfortable?" Jayce turned to look at Wren and had an excited expression on his face. Wren laughed, "I guess you are okay with it then?" "Yes, yes of course Lady Wren. As long as you are I am. Just tell me what I need to do." He had a pep in his step and continued walking down the dirt path towards the edge of the temple happily beside Wren.
"I need to "Reach Out" beforehand to make sure I do not run into anyone unfavorable. Would you mind if I borrowed some of your energy?" Jayce was confused, "B-but I don't have and powers-er, abilities like you. How can I even help?" They were standing near a large tree, next to the gate that led into town. "This may seem strange, but you do in fact have some Spiritual Energy within your body. Most people from the Tradelands and even here, have minor levels of Spiritual Energy from birth. Those with higher levels are able to train and hone their skills and use Nature Energy, which is all around us, to control their abilities. Whether they are more physical abilities, or mental/internal abilities."
Jayce was listening intently, as if he was at school learning a new lesson from the teachers. "You have more than the average Tradelands native, so with practice, you could hone that energy and learn to harness the Nature Energy around you. If you are able to do this, you could complete some Clan Level Missions that require your set of skills or even develop specific abilities and be transferred. I can talk with someone I know that is, more or less, the department head, and tell them you are interested if you would like?" As Wren was talking she was preparing her Spiritual energy so she can "Reach Out". Jayce nodded enthusiastically.
"Yes of course, that would be the shit Wren! I mean, Lady Wren, sorry and sorry I said sh-" "No need to keep apologizing, this is all still very new to you I would imagine. Now, if you could come closer, I am first going to complete a basic binding spell then I will need your help to Reach Out." Wren held out her hand to Jayce, and he reluctantly put his hand on top of hers. "I need the smallest bit of your blood. Do you mind if I prick your finger?" Jayce remained silent.
"The binding spell will help us communicate telepathically for the time we are in town. It is a safer way to communicate among so many people. If you are not comfortable with this I und-" "No! That is totally fine with me. I just, I was curious sorry." Wren smiled and lightly pricked his fingertip with a needle, causing one drop on blood to come out, which she smeared her thumb across. She gently touched his temple with her thumb, then touched hers as well. "Um, is that it?" Jayce asked as he tilted his head slightly in confusion.
Wren smirked, 'There are different sort of binding spells that require different objects and more work. This is just a simple one that will last a few hours,' Wren said to Jayce telepathically. His eyes grew wide, "That is so freaking awesome Lady Wren. Totally badass!" 'Heh, glad you enjoy it. Instead of talking out loud, think of what you want to say,' Jayce stopped his wiggling, and did as she instructed. 'So like this?' he asked Wren, 'Yes, good job. Now if you would please come closer. In order for me to Reach Out I need to absorb some of your energy. It won't hurt but you make feel like your hands are going numb or falling asleep momentarily.'
Jayce obediently did as he was told and came closer to Wren, extending his hand. 'If you keep your eyes open, you can see how everything looks to me when I reach out if you are that curious,' Jayce smiled brightly, 'Yes Yes, please yes!' Wren shook her head and chuckled. She began chanting a short spell she uses to transfer some of Jayce's energy to herself and Jayce looked down at his hand, which had started to feel slightly tingly, as if his hand fell asleep. He was looking around to see if his vision would change, but nothing had.
'Lady Wren, how am I supposed-' Jayce was startled when he blinked and suddenly his vision turned black and white. 'Whoa, what the f-' 'Shh..' Wren silently shushed him, as she tried to focus. The edge of town was almost out of her range of vision, so she needed to concentrate. Everything around her looked black, white, or grey. The only time any color was visible, was when the energy of a living person or animal was within her range. 'Whos, it feels like we are running through an old movie. Holy c...what was that green spot?' Jayce asked Wren.
'That was a small deer. Living animals and people give off different color light depending on if their Nature or Spiritual energy is more dominant. Also, the brightness of the color varies on the strength of their energy.' The scenes continued to pass, with only small amounts of green light on the edge of the forest noticeable. When Wren's vision was close to the outer edge where she needed to go, they saw a bright, light blue, light, in the shape of a person. 'Good she's there. Okay, thanks for the help Jayce. Blink your eyes slowly and your vision should return to normal once you open your eyes.'
Almost instantaneously after seeing the blue light, Wren brought their vision back to where they were currently standing. After a few more moments Jayce's vision returned to normal. "Wow, that was so cool Lady Wren. Now we are-" "I need you to hold on to me, take a deep breath, and count to 3 in your head, okay?" Wren interrupted. Jayce nodded and cautiously walked over to Wren and put an arm around her shoulder. Wren chuckled, and put her arm around his back, causing him to tense up slightly.
As he reached 2, he felt a slight breeze around his body, and in the next instant he felt his body become almost weightless, but also felt that his body weight tripled. '3,' Wren looked at Jayce whose hair was fluffy due to her teleporting the two of them and snickered, "Heh, are you okay Jayce? You can open your eyes now, and you can also let go of me," Jayce opened his eyes and realized he was in an unfamiliar location. "Where, where are we?" 'We are at the edge of town. I need to speak with the owner of the shop. Please stay close and guard the left side of the purple door, in the shop.' Wren said telepathically as she walked passed Jayce, who finally released his grip, and entered the shop. 'What a day,' he thought to himself in a happy tone as he made his way to the left side of the purple door.
