It was 5:30pm, and I was still in the office, sorting files. The office was empty now, everybody had retired home for the day. But here I was.
How was I the one placed under him in the first place? They could have chosen one of the other staff, but no, I was the unlucky one.
When he asked how my day was, I thought for a minute that he might know something, that he might also be having the same dream as me. Well, after he gave me this task, I knew immediately that he only asked that question, so he could make my day miserable.
But what made him stare at me so hard in his office today? It gave me time to admire his beautiful face though so I wasn't complaining.
My thoughts went back to Ziko.
I'm going to make sure I become a better girlfriend to him. He doesn't deserve to be treated this way. I can't keep getting distracted by Milo. Milo wasn't worth it. I really like Ziko, he is the perfect gentleman.
My phone started ringing, it's Cindy.
Cindy?
We hardly talk on phone, so it's a surprise she's calling me.
Cindy and I attended the same college and have been friends ever since.
Remember what I said about a friend referring me to work in this place?
That friend is Cindy.
She was that very rich girl back in school. She was very beautiful and had the perfect grades and all. But she was also very down to earth and friendly. That was the only reason why we became friends. Her family owned a large company that produces detergents. They were friends with the Friscos'. At the time I was looking for a job, their company was not in need of any new staff, so she referred me here.
"Hey Cindy, it's been a while" I said into the phone.
"Hey Lily, I just wanted to let you know that I'm back in town" she said cheerfully.
"Oh that's great girl, I hope we get to meet soon" I replied equally cheerful.
The truth is, I didn't really want to see or meet with her. It's not like she wasn't a nice person. It's just my introverted self making an appearance. I really didn't like hanging out with friends if it wasn't Daisy or maybe Mia, now that we were kind of close.
I find it very uncomfortable. What were we going to discuss? The weather?
If I am not comfortable with somebody, I can be a very boring person.
After the call ended, I looked at the pile of papers in front of me. I was only halfway through and it was 6:00pm already. My neck and back was starting to ache after sitting for so long.
"Let me give you a ride home, you can continue the rest tomorrow" I heard Milo's voice say.
He was standing at the door to my office, leaning against it.
So this work could wait until tomorrow but he chose to stress the life out of me?
*************************************
After Milo dropped me off at home on Tuesday, we haven't had any encounter except for when I turned his files over to him yesterday. I knocked on his door and he asked me to come in. His face was free of emotion. He kept a very straight face, almost a stern one if you looked closely. It was no business of mine with whatever was wrong with him so I submitted the files and left, with no conversation what so ever. During the car ride on Tuesday, he didn't say a word to me after asking for the direction of my house. I described my place for him, it wasn't too far from the office. I thanked him when I got down from his car in front of my apartment and he only nodded his head and sped off. What a jerk!
My personal phone started ringing. It was Daisy.
"Hey Daisy, you know I'm still at work" I said
"I do idiot, but I also know you are not busy right now"
She was right though, it was almost 5:00pm, we were getting ready to close for the day.
"So what's your reason for calling me?"
She gasped trying to sound shocked, "Do I need a reason to call my best friend?"
I waited patiently for her to continue
"Well, I do have something to tell you"
I knew Daisy like the tongue knows the teeth.
"Cindy called me, she said she was in town and will like us to spend the weekend together. She said its been a while and she misses us, so I'm planning to come over tomorrow." she said squealing in her last sentence.
This girl was unbelievable.
"Daisy, listen!"
"Why don't you sound happy Lily? Are you not happy to see your favorite person in this world?" She asked dramatically.
"I've been in this town for 6months, and not once have you been here to see me, but suddenly Cindy calls you and you can't wait to get here. Are you sure we are friends?" I asked rolling my eyes even though she couldn't see me.
She started laughing, the idiot was laughing.
All three of us were friends but Cindy was closer to Daisy than she was to me. But I was still best friends with Daisy or so I thought. I rolled my eyes at the thought I was having right now.
"Daisy, get off my phone and go talk to Cindy. I've got some work to do"
"Chill girl. The main reason I'm coming over is because I miss you Lily and also because I have no classes this Saturday. You know how busy I am on every other weekends. This is the only time I'm free from work and school" she explained.
She goes to school every Saturday for her Msc programme, which she started immediately after our graduation. She also works in one of those governmental organizations during the weekdays, so I kind of understood her.
I just didn't like the fact that she was coming because Cindy invited her. But it's kind of favourable to me though, instead of hanging out with Cindy alone, I get to do it with Daisy around. The awkwardness wouldn't be too much I guess.
"Hey Lily, are you still there?"
"Yes Daisy, I'll be expecting you, we'll talk later in the evening, I need to get ready to close for the day".
