Chapter 7 - Reiball Seid

"Aside from the fighting incident, Mr Egar has a clean record."

"But do we want someone so violent helping out the students?"

"It seems to be a one-time occurrence, perhaps due to undetected family conflict?"

"One incident can quickly lead to another, haven't we already paid the price for over-estimating his character?"

"Then we will create for him a trial period. If he fails, then there should be no complaints in replacing him."

"Are you not showing favouritism, Mr Tabor when you say such a thing?"

"Not at all, Miss Keemer, however, I do admit that he did manage to shine a light on some hidden talent among our students that I would have otherwise not acknowledged, whether knowingly, or not."

"I'm sure that you are wondering why you have both been called here during your lunchtime."

"Yes, Mr Arbor."

"The both of you, Mr Egon, and Mr Seid have been called in for being chosen as your respective classes representatives.

"Me?!"

"Him?!"

The two turned towards the prince with different expressions. Rei in annoyance and the principal in good humour. Amir was not a social person, however, it would be inconvenient if he had a bad relationship with the principal of the school, so he so silently glad that the air was not awkward or slated after the mishaps in his office last week.

"Is it so hard to believe that I could be picked?!"

"Need I point out that you didn't believe it either."

"Now, now, boys. As much as it may be a surprise for the two of you. Mr Reiball Seid has been at the top of all his classes, falling to third place only in joint mandatory classes."

"Really?" Amir, if he were anyone else, would have most likely had a comedically shocked expression present on his face. The red spitfire by his side turned out to be surprisingly smart.

Luckily, for his image of a crown prince, he was not. And thus minimised the only expression of his shock to be the raising of his eyebrow. Doubtfully looking towards the idiotic red-head and the principal with questioning looks.

"As I don't want to keep you from lunch, I just called you in to inform you of the change."

"Are there going to be anyone else doing this for the first time?" Rei asked, already becoming as dedicated to this as he is to everything else.

"No, it is rather common for the previous years' representatives to keep their positions. If you have any more questions about the topic, there will be the first meeting on Friday. Now, don't let me keep you. I'm sure that you were busy before I called you in."

"Goodbye, principal."

"Enjoy your classes."

///

The crown prince is careless for he cares not for the chaos his experiments leave. Not thinking of the actions that could be taken against him in retaliation.

And as the counties history was an important subject, all citizens, from the poorest to those with the most wealth, know what the last silver tinted person had done.

Rei too had grown up with fairytales of amazing magical humans, with their silver hair and their kingdoms, fighting every nation, simply to rescue their stolen princess.

Rei wasn't afraid to admit that he was a romantic at heart.

However, the prince was not like any of those magical fairytales he had listened to as a child. Prince Amir had seen me as an experiment and left me to feel the brunt of his carelessness.

However, Rei still could not get used to how quickly everything in his life had changed with a simple decision from the prince that he probably didn't even think about. Is this what they call being 'gifted by fate'. One moment he was just another unknown student in the class being picked on by the older kids like anyone else.

///

"Aren't you a little too girly to be here? Girly-girl?"

"Aren't you a little too thick-headed to be a knight? Human-Shield?"

They pressed their foreheads together in a mockery of their frustration only breaking apart when interrupted.

"If you want to fight, at least do it properly." Mr Tabor said in annoyance.

"Yes, sir!"

///

And then suddenly he was the most well-known junior. Rei, who known for his loud mouth before, was suddenly known for being favoured by the first prince.

///

"Hey! You're the person that beat Zeno, right? The prince must trust your abilities very much to chose you."

"Trust? More like he found amusement in my suffering…"

"Hey, can you introduce him to us. I'm sure he would enjoy meeting your friends."

///

Rei didn't ask for this, sure it was nice to be popular but if he was being honest, the thought of being the friends of such two-sided people teared up the walls of his non-existent patience more times than he could remember.

///

"Damn. I only got third place. Just losing to that annoying prince is enough to ruin my day, but to lose to someone else…Damn!"

Rei abandoned the results board in front of the class in favour of heading towards the dorms. Looking for something to take his mind off the smirk that he could imagine teasing him from the shadows of his vision.

///

The fact that the crown prince was the cause of all of his problems lately didn't go unnoticed.

///

"Hey, Rei! Some friend's of mine are going into town with me. We want to check out the famous foods. Do you want to come?"

That's right, as the school is not far from the capital, students from the smaller towns would be interested in going to check it out, I guess. I have been raised moving around, sometimes coming with my father places. So I guess I don't really understand that feeling of going out and leaving for a place simply because you want to.

"Sorry I can't hang out today, I have to study."

"Study? You don't seem like the type."

"Yeah, my mum is worried about me being gone for so longs, so I want to show her I'm doing good."

His classmate laughed in goodwill, "Now that makes more sense! I guess you're the type to do that sort of thing, huh? I'll bring back some food. Though it might be cold, so don't count on the quality!"

Reiball Seid didn't have time to think about such problems though. He needed to get a better score next time, and then maybe he could look at the prince's face and not see a sign practically begging him to punch it…though, it would not be good to get his hopes up.

He now also needed to dedicate time to his representative position.
