Candice reached the emergency ward to be overwhelmed with the crying and shouting things thrown here and there. But what attracted her was a little boy holding her mother's hand who was seated on the bench waiting for her turn. No one was tending to them due to lack of obvious traumatic issues. She reached them and said ", Hi I am Candice a nurse. Would you like me to check you yeah?", she asked gently. The mother of the child held a cloth to her forehead. Seeing Candice focus on her son, she turned to look at him. She thought he was alright and stopped caring for him, but tend to her growing headache.
Seeing Candice's serious gaze on the boy, her heart skipped a beat.
Candice saw the boy breath in short hard gasps. His face was turning pale blue. He had no scratches but that was dangerous. Taking a stethoscope, she placed it by his heart, slow and erratic beats. Seemed blocked and beating slower. Her face paled, her beat increased.
"Doctor Spencer!", she turned around about her, only to realize that she hadn't seen him since her shift started.
"Nurse! Nurse What wrong with my son?". The woman stood up in a hurry. She let go of the cloth on her forehead.
She picked up the little boy gingerly and screamed ", I need a CAT scan NOW! I need a Doctor now! I have a slowing heart beat here!". She screamed. It was just now that's he noticed how chaotic the scene was, how she felt she was out of her element. How unready she felt. Then suddenly she felt her shoulders shaken. The child taken by Dr Spencer, taken on a stretcher he got from God knows where. Hurling instructions over the noise to people. Getting the child oxygen and hooking him to a drip. She stood transfixed. She was shocked. She was having an out of boy experience as if she was hovering about space.
Then she saw Dr Spencer in front of her, talking. And seeing her lack of response, he took her by the hand and took her asked for a cup of water in a Styrofoam cup from the receptionist and splashed her to her face. She woke up from her trance with a start.
"Pull yourself together. You studied for this. You can do it. Believe in yourself". She nodded after a while. And she and Dr Spencer managed to get the boy's CAT scan to see that his lungs were crushed had punched a lung.
And they treated him, she left to seek out the others. With renewed confidence.
Meanwhile in the car, Mr. Grey eyes was serious on the phone, with on hand on the phone and the other typing in the computer. He had no smirk, no mischief or any funny expression on his face. He was a ruthless cold CEO. That is him the stone cold man, Nicholas Stone. The permeant stone in Britain's high tides of old money in new business. Though he comes from old money, he generated more than a third of his family's wealth by himself.
If dear Candice saw him like this, she might have liked him faster. He looked like a two faced Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
Well considering that he Is her favourite character she would have gone bananas.
Mr Grey eyes said resolutely ", Matthew sort it out, I don't want to fire you again". He hung up after that. Then he smoothed his brows as he looked at the hospital she was in.
Actually she used her as an excuse to stabilise the board. Showing his married certificate and the cleaning up of his image three years ago allowed him to successfully keep the CEO chair.
He was busy running errands overseas and opening new branches and chain stores and hotels adding to his family's empire he had little time to think about his wife. It is not that he did not want to give her millions as her identity helped him keep his feet above water, but that if he did, she would investigated by the wrong people and her live will be in danger so he did not do that. Sending ten thousand is enough per month to not arouse suspicion.
It was nearing one am when the child was successfully put to the causality ward. She was very relieved but seeing the scantily dressed nurse loitering around Dr Spencer she had black lines on her forehead. But the patients needed their attention, so she tended to more and more people. Running from one patient to another, helping eft and right. Running errands for the doctors around as she is usually assisting Dr spencer so she is a little headless chicken, but helping all of them made the doctors appreciate her more and Dr Spencer's teeth itched with hatred. Why didn't she confront him and ask him why he was avoiding her? He felt betrayed.
Around two thirty AM, the emergency ward, dialled down a bit. The people from the accident were either taken to the ICU or the causality ward or directly sent home. It was this time of leisure that she followed Dr Spencer to the kitchen foe the tea break. She looked at him pour the dark coffee he always drinks and she silently poured a cup of sweetened milk tea. She then looked at him intensely, her short hair escaping the small bun at the nape of her neck. Her blue eyes impossibly wide and cute with flushed cheeks due to hard work.
"What!". he asked her.
