I woke up early on Sunday morning. I got dressed, ate breakfast, and texted the gang that I'll be out for the day. I got my beach bag ready, put sunscreen on, and closed up shop. The beach was empty as I approached, washed in the pale sunrise. I put my bag down, took off my sun clothes, packed them into my bag, and hid it so no one would steal it.
I had no idea how long Shon would take to get to his boat, but if more people came it would be harder to turn into a syren so I would have to do it now. I walked into the blue-green ocean, gracefully gliding through the salary water. I made sure my waist was hidden under the water. I turned, swam under the docks, and waited for Shon to come. I knew where his boat was parked so I swam to the part of the docks where it would connect to his boat and I waited.
I woke up from my dose of boredom by a change in the current of the waters. It was Shon's boat turning on. He was getting ready to depart from the docks. I waited and was being cautious not to be seen by him, or by anyone else. As his boat slowly left the docks, I stayed back for a minute so I wouldn't be seen, then I followed him. It was no trouble keeping up with him as he left the harbor because of those "no wake" rules, so he wasn't going too fast. When we got out of the "no wake" zone, he picked up his pace only a little. It was noticeable, but I could still keep up.
While I was chasing him, the sky turned dark and the water was disturbed by raindrops falling on the top.
I didn't know it was supposed to rain today. Glad I followed him.
The sound of the raindrops hitting the water in asymmetric unison is calming and gentle.
I'm not being a stalker, am I?
The rain was pouring down faster and harder and the wind was picking up. We were miles away from the harbor, and he wasn't moving his boat. The storm is getting stronger and water is splashing onto the boat's dock. He finally started heading back.
We're not going to make it. I know it.
The storm is getting worse by the minute and the wind is throwing water everywhere. One wave was big enough to rip one of the boat's sails off. He got slower because of this. Another wave comes in and knocks the boat off balance, but no crash.
Not yet, at least.
Another wave comes and pelts the boat. I swim deeper down because this next wave will finish it all. The massive wave comes and crashes into the boat. I wait and look in anxiousness, looking through the debris of the boat, looking for him. I looked all around me until, boom, I got him. I quickly swam to him and grabbed him. I then swam up to the sky to let him breathe. I continued swimming to shore in the monstrous storm that sank his ship. I laid him on the shore so that he could get to safety and I went back into the crash site, to see if any of his valuables were still in the ocean. Nope. All clear.
Good.
I swam back and made sure he was still out so I wouldn't be caught. I put him by my bag so I could change and get him to a hospital as soon as I could. I resurfaced because he was still out, little did I know I was wrong, but that will come later in the story. I changed into my sun clothes and turned into a human so I could do work now. I carried Shon to my house and then I called Ian so he could drive Shon to the hospital. We were both surprisingly calm about the whole situation. I waited by Shon until Ian came and rang the doorbell and I let him in. He carried Shon to his car, and I came with him. He drove us to the hospital. I ran in and told the receptionist about everything, and they got in. They did scans and checks to make sure he was okay. I excused myself so I could let lose all that happened by myself, and in the bathroom nonetheless. When I was ready I cleaned up and left. I joined Ian and Kori because she brought us lunch. She heard what was going on from what Ian told her. We waited in the waiting room and Kori and Ian both looked exhausted. After we ate lunch I told them they could go home, and I'd stay at the hospital. They agreed and left. I waited for a few minutes until I was finally allowed to go into Shon's room. I slowly walked to his room because I, too, was exhausted, but I needed to be with him. I went into his room and he was still out. I sat down and closed my eyes, drifting off to sleep.
"Thanks for that, Lyr." a voice said. Somehow I moved. I opened my eyes to see that I was sleeping next to Shon. I was so happy he was awake that I squeezed him tight.
"How did I get here?" I asked.
"Oh, I moved you, you looked uncomfortable in that chair.
Without realizing it tears were creeping down my cheeks, and Shon wiped them away with his thumb. "We have to tell Ian and Kori that you're okay!"
"Let it wait, I just need you with me right now." he said with that tone in his voice.
"Okay, I'll tell them later." I returned
Yeah, he's just like….. A brother, right? Then why does this feel like this?
