Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 : Catastrophe

[Location: Xellene, Unit 4 Cell of T.S No. 0604]

"It's time to wake up 0604", a foreign voice filled resonated in the dark room. The darkness immediately evaporated as the room lit up, the brightness overwhelming even the pair of scientists present in the monitor room. They waited patiently as they would occasionally glance at the giant screen for any movement but there was nothing. "Is she in the bathroom?", the man asked his partner, "Dr Wilson said she hates light".

"Just give it a few more minutes", his female colleague replied squinting at the bright room, "He said it takes time for her to wake up". "This place is creepy man", the guy shuddered after what he said, "Let's just get it done and go", the woman nodded in agreement. A few more minutes passed by but there was still no sign of Hel. "0604? Can you hear me?", the guy asked through the intercom while the woman decided to check the room through the screen on their right.

The bed was indeed empty and as she continued to search for Hel, she spotted an unknown figure crouching at one of the corners of the screen. "What is that?" the woman said out loud which alerted the man, it only took them a second to realise something was wrong. "Shit!", the man cursed as he ran towards the intercom, changing the channel to the ER, "Code Blue! I repeat, we have a Code Blue at Unit Four Goliath!". He was yelling through the microphone at this point, "Hurry up, she's out cold!".

'That bastard really just left in the middle of his shift!', I thought as I ran to room 507 where my colleagues said they sent Hel. I was in the middle of a meeting when I was interrupted by a call. Apparently the two juniors I sent to take care of Hel found her unconscious on the floor. I was too busy to watch over her yesterday so I asked a friend from the same department to do it but it seems that he left in the middle of the shift because he was 'scared'.

'I'm sure she's okay', I assumed as my heart raced violently. 'He's gonna kill me if he finds out', I thought imagining how furious Dr Blake was going to be. I knew him since I was a freshmen in college, where he helped me find my current passion for science and creation. I came from a wealthy background, my father was a successful businessman while my mother was a superstar. I was the youngest of four children with three older brothers as competition for their attention.

I came from a wealthy family bit that didn't mean I was happy. Ever since I could remember, I was always neglected by my parents, work was more important than I was. They thought I need money but it was actually them, Mom and Dad were just too ignorant to admit that was true. I finally decided to run away right after I graduated high school.

I didn't want to accept the fate of my parents controlling my life, I wanted to make my own decisions. I practically grew up by myself so it didn't really have an impact on me when I ran away. I decided to change my identity and move abroad using the money I saved as a kid. My real new and improved life finally started from there.

Forgive me if I'm being rude but they never felt like my family, maybe the word nuisance would be a better fit. They never encouraged anything I did in life, instead they ruined it by forbidding me to do anything, could you live like that forever? I managed to survive by working several part time job and eating only one meal a day. Yes I was rich but by no means was I a spoiled brat like the others. From there, I started learning how to fit in the foreign world and now it was one of my greatest strengths, especially in college.

When I finally attended, it got even harder, there was countless competitors and the price of education got so much higher than I thought. If it weren't for him I wouldn't know where I'd be honestly. He was a well known researcher even then and taught at my school. He was my role model and we became close acquaintances ever since I wrote him a letter saying so. He found out that I was struggling with money through his friend and sponsored me under his name.

"I saw potential in you Celia. I believe people like you deserve more than what you receive", he said when I confronted him about it. After I graduated, he offered me a job at Xellene as his assistant and I immediately agreed. Now it's been almost a decade and I'm still here beside him, it was the least I could do. 'And now I have to disappoint him like this', I thought dreading the idea. I arrived at the front of the door and the doctor was right there waiting for me to arrive.

"I'm sorry you had to wait Doctor", I apologised as I caught my breath, "I was in the middle of a meeting". "Oh, no worries Celia", the doctor flashed a friendly smile. "S-so", I stuttered, "Is she fine?". "Well", he started making me tense, "She's stable for now", he announced. "She just went into a sudden shock state after her panic attack was neglected". "Panic attack?", I asked surprised, we thought her episodes had stopped awhile ago.

"This looks like her first in a good few years", the doctor said flipping through his clipboard, "I'm surprised she could withstand that amount of anxiety for hours without the pills". "We did give her some antidepressants earlier but I suggest you let her rest here for the day", he said as glanced at the unconscious creature inside the room. "Thanks", I thanked the doctor but something else was bothering me. "Good luck with Blake", he cheered for me before walking away, leaving me alone in the hallway.

Shortly after, I heard heavy footsteps coming towards my direction and it was no one other than Blake Wilson himself. He looked furious, it seemed like he rushed all the way here from a meeting, I heard it was an important one as well, "I can explai-". I was shut off by a searing pain directed on my cheek, he slapped me. "You had one job Celia", he whispered angrily, "And that was to assign someone 'responsible enough' to look after Hel for the night".

"I knew you were busy with other things to do so I decided to be lenient with you and this is how you thank me?", he was seething with rage as he talked. "Fire the fucker of a friend you asked to take care of Hel and shut him up. I don't care how hard it's going to be, just do it", he said rustling his grey hair, "And make sure you do it right this time". I just nodded, too overwhelmed to say anything.

"If you think this is the best you can do, quit now and find someone else to call your mentor", he glared at me in distaste, "Because I don't tolerate carelessness". "Do I make myself clear?", he asked, his tone and expression back to normal. "Y-yes Sir", I whimpered, "Good", he smiled and stroked my swollen cheek, "Make yourself useful for once, hm?". He walked away after uttering those hurtful words, he knew I hated disappointing him. 'Never again', I promised myself as tears dropped from my eyes, 'One more mistake and I'm done for'.
