Chapter 9 - Most Beautiful Night (Part 2)

"Promise me one thing." Angeline said very quietly, almost sounding like a whisper.

"What is that?"

Angeline stared the scary eyes of a David Stockholm deeper, until David knew that the girl was really serious about what she was going to say.

When Angeline said that, David realized that the life he had been living was about to change.

"Don't ever throw me out."

David was silent for a moment. "What do you mean?"

The reflection of the moonlight coming in from the window made Angeline's tears clear. The girl's eyes filled with tears, making David even more confused. The tears seemed ready to flow from Angeline's eyes whenever she wanted.

"Why do you say that shit?"

Angeline started to sob. Her tears escaped because they could no longer be held. The girl's breath began to falter. And somehow, David felt his heart weaken to see the girl who had recently become the main topic in his mind crying like that.

David hated being weak, never liked feeling weak. But he didn't hate it, because it was Angeline who made him weak. And he still doesn't understand why he could be like this.

"I have no idea." said Angeline softly. "I always think about it every time I wake up from my sleep."

David lay down beside Angeline, gently rubbing the tears that had escaped her cheek.

"What are you thinking?"

Angeline breathed in as much air as she could, held it a little longer in her lungs, trying to calm her heart which was rumbling violently in there a little.

"You are a successful man. I don't need to mention how many great people have bowed before you. Not to mention the ladies in the office, they all adore you so much. They are all so great … "

"What do you really wanna say?" David asked, causing Angeline to look David in the eye.

"They, the people around you, they are all great people, classy people. As for me, I was way below them."

"So?"

"Then I realized, maybe I'm nothing compared to them."

David was silent, waiting for Angeline to say what the girl really wanted to say from the bottom of her heart.

"So ..." said Angeline hanging, which David is still waiting for. "I've always been afraid that someday, you'll throw me out after getting what you want from me."

David stroked Angeline's head gently. "Do you think I'm a person like that?"

"I don't know." Angeline replied, covering her face with both hands. Believe it or not, Angeline's sobs made David want to cry too. It somehow touched the very bottom of his heart.

Who would have thought, the sound of Angeline's crying could make the heart of a cold-blooded mafia like David hurt so badly.

David held Angeline's hands, slowly making her stop covering the beautiful face she was trying to hide. Angeline still closed her eyes, with drops of tears that kept escaping from those sad lids.

"Angel, look at me." asked David, who only got a light shake from Angeline, still closing his eyes.

"To me, you are not something that I will throw away once I get what I want. You are much more valuable than that."

Slowly Angeline opened her eyes. "Then, what am I to you?"

"You are the only thing that will make me regret for the rest of my life if I let you go."

"What made you think like that?"

"Just like your answer earlier." David replied, placing his hand on Angeline's cheek. "I also have no idea."

They both fell silent. Slowly Angeline's breath began to become calm and steady. The tears that had hurt David so much were no longer flowing.

"But I can prove that right now."

"What do you mean?"

David got out of bed without answering her. Walked over to the black safe that was in the wardrobe, punched a combination of numbers and took out a box that he could hold in one hand, closed the safe again and walked back to Angeline.

"Get up." asked David softly. Angeline slowly got up from her sleeping position, sat on the edge of the bed while covering her naked body using a blanket.

David knelt on one knee directly in front of Angeline and opened the box he had been carrying. And suddenly the tears that had stopped earlier flowed back from Angeline's lids.

The eyes full of seriousness shown by David let Angeline know that the man who was kneeling before her was not kidding.

"Marry me."

One sentence that came out from David's mouth made Angeline completely speechless.

Angeline's little nod brought a smile full of happiness to David's lips.

David slowly took out a diamond ring from the box, placing it carefully on Angeline's left ring finger. David rose from his knees and kissed the girl's forehead gently.

This time David would not ask Angeline to stop her crying.

He could feel it. That cry was not a cry that hurt his heart like before. It was no longer the crying that stifled her chest, which made him feel even more guilty. The crying made his heart feel comfortable this time.

And that night was the first time Angeline felt happiness that she had never felt before. Likewise with David.

The white light of the moon was the only witness of the most beautiful night for both Angeline and David.
