Chapter 27 - DOUBTS

DOUBTS

I flipped through the pages of my math text, absentmindedly. I had my gaze fixed on the table, but my thoughts seemed to be lost elsewhere. What's bothering my mind? Early that day, I had grabbed my textbooks and settled down in our library which seemed unoccupied. Though I tried my best to concentrate on Math, I just couldn't. Thoughts and doubts kept on stirring my mind.

"Not all questions, are answered, Sara. Patiently wait, and the answer shall appear before you."

I was reminded of what Nicole had told me. How long was I supposed to wait? Why did I not die, when I was attacked by Blacky's wand? By whom was I protected? Who is her master? What does it mean, he is rising? What was actually happening? The most disturbing thing- Why did Blacky call me Toldler? I had noticed it, each time I encountered me, I was called SARA ALVES TOLDLER. What is Toldler? Why did she always call me so? So many questions and none answered. Why did my life have to be so?

I nonchalantly, scratched the surface of the wooden table, as I tried figuring out answers for my questions. That's when my eyes noticed the bangle that was on my wrist. The bangle, Father Candido had given me for my protection. And then something sparked in my head. It was the bangle that protected me from Blacky.

I sighed in relief, at least one of my question had been answered. But still, answerless questions were still in my head. But before I could think something, someone tapped on the table, bringing me back from my thoughts.

"Hey, daydreaming, are you?"-Said Abin...Wait..what? There he stood, with a daffily charming smile. His blue eyes were so strong that I felt their gaze would burn right through me. Locks of his brown hair was as usual fallen over his right eye. The mere sight of him, made my heart do tap-dance. Oh god, when I thought about tap-dancing, I was instantly reminded of my awkward tap-dance moment with Abin.

"Hey, Nothing"- I replied, trying to sound normal and calm. Cuz, inside I was neither calm nor normal. I could feel the heat rise in my cheeks and was sure, I was blushing.

He let out a small chuckle which surprised me. But the thing that surprised me, even more, was, what he did the next. He pulled up a chair beside me and sat down. His hands rubbed against mine, as he settled down. As I was busy noticing him and his features, I failed to notice the books he was carrying. He laid down the books and looked at me once again.

Oh, that gaze.

'When are you going to stop gawking at this fellow, Sara'- Asked my brain. I immediately shifted my gaze onto the table and tried shaking off all my awkwardness.

"Did you know, we have graphs for the exam?"- He said, shoving those locks of his hair.

"No..What...Graphs..but, the portions?"- I exclaimed. Graphs? Oh, no...That was the last thing I wanted.

"Yeah....I know right, they haven't included it in the portions. But it is coming it seems."- He said, rubbing his forehead with one hand and opening his books with the other.

"I met Mr Dave on the way and while I was asking him my doubts he had mentioned about graphs. Did you cover that part of the syllabus?"- He asked, still flipping the pages of his text.

"No..um, not yet."- I replied. I was busy searching the contents of my text when I noticed Abin looking at me. As soon as turned to him, he shrugged himself and looked down at his book. His look did make me feel a bit weird. That's when he spoke.

"Why are you absent in most of the classes?"- He asked, as he took the cap off his pen and looked at me. I stared back, as I gulped down my answer. What could I say to him?

"Hey, any issues? I mean, I can help you with studies, you know..Doubts or something."- said Abin. I smiled and spoke.

"Thanks, I'm okay with things."- replied me. I turned back to my book, but through the corner of my eyes, I saw a disappointed look in his face. Now, what was that for? Why would he be disappointed when I say that I've studied? Whatever...I went onto the chapter titled 'Graphs'.

I selected a question from the practice section and started solving it. At intervals, I stopped to look at Abin, who too was busy practising questions. One hand on the side of his head, as the other hand, scratched the papers with a pen. When I was done revising all the chapters. I shut my books close and stretched my arms. Beside me, Abin followed my actions. I chuckled as I saw him stretch and yawn.

"Tired, huh?!"- I jokingly asked. He nodded his head as he pouted his lips childishly and blinked his eyelids several times. He looked too cute to be described. This time, I couldn't help but laugh. Seeing me laugh, he too started laughing. Maybe our laughter was a too audible, the next moment we felt hands on our shoulders. And when we turned back...

"Ms Zanny."- Both Abin and me mouthed. Yes, it was Ms Zanny, one of the most-short tempered, teachers of our school. She was our librarian and the most fierce soul, I've ever encountered(That's why I rarely choose the library to find solace).

"Does this look like a public park to you?"- She said, pushing her round magnifying spectacles towards the bridge of her long pointy nose. She was too short and plump. Anyone who'd get her backside view would have mistaken her for a giant pumpkin. But, let's come back to the situation.

"No..No, ma'am."- Both of us replied to her.

"Then, why did you laugh? Don't you see what these posters say?"- She sneered, pointing the "SILENCE, PLEASE" posters that were pasted all across the library.

"Aren't they printed in pumpkin letters?"- She asked us, leaving the grip on us.

A sudden thought popped up in my mind. 'PUMPKIN LETTERS'? Oh, so..did she just say that the posters were printed in her size. Large and fat!!

But I regretted thinking it, cuz...somehow, that thought slipped off my tongue. The sneer in her face was replaced by a great blush on her cheeks. Her eyes widened and she breathed hard.

Oh, Lords...What did I do?

To add oil to the igniting fire, Abin started laughing, hugging his stomach and pointing at Ms Zanny.

"Pumpkin lady..."- He said through fits of laughter. I couldn't control my laugh when I saw Abin laughing. But the lady behind me growled at us.

"Insolent creatures!!"- She shouted. I took a quick movement, grabbed both of ours' books and grabbed Abin by his wrist as I ran towards the exit door. Behind me, Ms Zanny ran as fast as she could(all her fat, made her running slow). But she didn't quit trying to catch us. With books on one hand and the wrist of a laughing lunatic on the other one, we made our way through corridors with Ms Zanny behind us, cursing and shouting.

But we outran her easily and stopped running. I supported myself towards the wall as I panted for air. Abin on the other side was on the floor laughing idiotically.

'Was I so funny?''- I thought.

"Pumpkin lady.."- He said and laughed again. I laughed along with him, as I slid my back along the wall and sat down beside him.

"Microsoft Word renewed with the all-new, PUMPKIN LADY font."- I said to which Abin roared with laughter. I chuckled and looked around me, to find where my legs had landed us up. That's when I recognized it to be the corridor leading to the ground. Oh, where I first fell on Abin.

That thought itself made me blush hard. Thank god, it is night and Abin wouldn't notice me. I turned to him. He was sitting like a naughty child, his laughter had died down and his head looked to the corners of the corridor. There was an ample amount of moonlight that was peeking in through the gigantic windows. It travelled straight onto Abin's body, which made him glow. His ocean blue eyes looked dangerously strong as they reflected the luscious moonlight. Looking at him, I forgot that he was aware of me staring at him like a mindless idiot.

"Hey."- He said, shoving me back to senses. I flinched slightly and smiled. There was a fresh breeze that blew. I felt it rubbing itself against my hair and cheek as I enjoyed the bliss. Strands of my hair fell onto my face, but I was least bothered about shoving it back. I closed my eyes as I felt a warm hand touching the side of my face. My eyes fluttered open and I saw, Abin's hand to the side of my face, For a second, my heart stopped beating...

'What was he gonna do?'- I thought. But, Abin seemed to be so caring and friendly, he moved the strands of hair which was on my face and pushed it onto the back of my ear.

"There you go."- He replied, when he was done. I couldn't think what to do, cuz..It seemed that my brain had taken a sudden vacation again, and wasn't ready to come back soon. I simply stared at those blue orbs.
