Chapter 23 - The Good Samaritan

Justin's P.O.V

I arrived at the house by 11:30pm. I made sure I made no noises at all. I planned on just sneaking into the house and tip-toeing to my room before jumping on my bed and sleeping. I tried to be as stealthy as possible so Bob or anyone else wouldn't see me.

I unlocked the door slowly and as quietly as I could. I hoped they had already slept.

To my greatest surprise, I saw Bob, Mirabel and Lisa standing right in front of the door. It shocked me so much, my heart flew straight to my mouth as I saw them. I didn't even know what to say.

"Hey!" I said with a fake smile.

"Where the hell were you?!" He almost yelled. "Do you know how worried we were about you? You scared us, son!" He added.

"I'm sorry." I muttered. That was actually the only thing I could say.

"We were even about to call the police. What happened? Why did you do this?" He asked with an angry and kind of disappointed look on his face.

There were so many questions, I didn't know which one to answer first. He was really worried about me.

"I'm really really sorry for making you guys worry so much..." I started saying in the most sincere voice I had till he cut me short.

"Why didn't you pick your calls?"

"It's battery was dead... I'm really sorry." I gave him an excuse hoping it'll pacify him. "The movie ended by 9:30 and I was meant to come home but I got stranded on the way. The fuel tank got empty. I was alone for a long. long time." I said, stressing the 'long.'

"Oh, about that, I'm really sorry for letting you go out with it when I hadn't even refilled it. I wasn't even aware it was almost empty." He paused. "Hope it came back whole?" He asked jokingly. He probably wanted to lighten our moods so I just smiled lightly.

"Maybe we should let him come in first" Mirabel said in a calm voice. We had all been standing there since I came.

"Okay, I forgot. Justin, you should come in." He said and gestured for me to come in.

I got in and locked the door behind me, then I followed them to the sitting room.

Lisa went to her room after giving me a suspicious look. What was her problem? Bob and Mirabel sat together on one arm chair while I sat down on the other.

"So, how did you get back home?" Bob asked inquisitively.

"A good samaritan helped me with a jerry can of fuel when I was stranded by the roadside for a very long time." I lied. "With that fuel, I drove to the petrol station and refuelled the car." I added to the first lie. At least it was not so much of a lie. At least it had some bits of truth in it, though they were negligible. I wonder how Bob would feel if he found out how many times I lied to him. He'll be so broken... I think.

"But at least you're okay. Thank God about that."

That look Lisa gave me, probably meant that she smelt a lie and she was probably going to come to my room this night to interrogate me and what happened the last time will happen again.

Don't blame me about the kiss though. I know she's my cousin and all and I'm not meant to be doing that with her but sincerely, it was not my fault at all cos I kind of needed it. I needed someone... and she probably just took advantage of that need and kissed me. So, not my fault at all!

"You going to eat dinner?" Mirabel asked caringly.

"No, thank you... I ate in the cinema." I said, trying not to bother her. "Thank you for caring."

I was actually really hungry and my tummy was rumbling inside but I didn't want to disturb anyone. Especially not at this time.

"No problem, anytime." She said and smiled. Her smile looked so beautiful.

They went upstairs to their room and I also went to mine. I locked my door so Lisa wouldn't come to ask me any questions and then I jumped on my bed. Today was a long, long day and I really needed a lot of rest to clear all those scenes of me killing those men away from my memory.

I really couldn't believe that I was the one that did all that. I was turning into a really bad boy. And I don't know how to stop myself!
