Logan's P.O.V
It had been a week since I sent my two personal assassins; Shawn and Xander on that mission to kill, what's his name again? Oh yeah... Justin Cole. And they still hadn't come back to take their money or tell me what's up. It was so unusual!
They were trained as agents by the government before they got 'sacked' for doing drugs. And then I employed them. Since then, they have been working for me in the drug business until now that John Coyde offered a whooping one million dollars... just for them to kill a fifteen year old kid. Such a waste!
I expected it to be real easy for them because they were actually very good in martial arts and with guns. Besides, as I had said earlier... it was just a fifteen year old boy.
I called Shawn for like the twentieth time this week and his phone rang but he didn't pick up... again! I also called Xander but his phone was switched off. What went wrong?
Coyde had already sent a message to me that the boy was still alive. I didn't know how possible that was and I also didn't know why Shawn and Xander weren't picking my calls.
It was very possible that they were bribed by the boy. For goodness sake, he's the son of multi-millionaire; Davis Cole so it was not so difficult for him to give a couple million dollars for his life. They must have fled the country after taking a life-changing amount from the kid and have now decided not to take my phone calls anymore. I never fully trusted them though... so I actually wasn't surprised that this was happening.
But I just couldn't understand why they would have collected any money and ran away. It would have been understandable if they had killed him afterwards, but they didn't... it was really puzzling. Was it that they didn't know the art of deception? No way they wouldn't know it when I was the one that trained them... partly though.
I picked my phone up and dialed Coyde's number. I had to tell him what my findings were... but in a different way.
Coyde's P.O.V
My phone was lying on my bed, ringing. I checked who was calling and I saw it was Logan.
I wouldn't have attempted to pick it if I hadn't remembered that I had given him an assignment and he hadn't yet given me feedback.
Vanessa, my wife was right inside the room, lying on our bed when it rang, so I couldn't possibly pick the phone right there.
"Who is it?" She asked. Damn... why did she ask?
It was still ringing. "It's a business associate, really important." I lied
She nodded her head in approval and I left the room to one of the multiple guest rooms in the house.
I tapped the 'answer' button and placed the phone on my left ear. I heard his annoying voice say; "Hello John" He said it so gayishly, I felt like puking.
"Any new development?" I asked in a husky and hoarse voice.
"Yes..." He said and paused, keeping me in suspense.
"Uhuh..." I said and he cut me short.
"... There's bad news" I was so shocked by what he said... I couldn't find any words in my mouth.
"Bad news??? What could possibly go wrong??" I asked hysterically.
"My men..." He said and paused for some seconds again. He was always so dramatic. That was one reason I disliked him so much. "... were killed."
His statement shocked me so much, the phone almost slipped from my grip.
"How did that happen?" I said, trying to catch my breath and find something to say. "How... you said your men were trained!"
"Yes, they were, but it's like he was with a troop of body guards that took my men unawares. I just found their bodies, dead in their lair one fateful morning." He told me. He sounded really serious and I did not find any hint of dishonesty in his voice.
I got really frustrated. "You must be joking, Logan!" I said in an angry voice. "Stop these jokes and get serious. I'm not in the mood for any of this!"
"I'm not kidding. Do I sound like I am?" He actually didn't sound like he was joking but that didn't mean he wasn't. "I can send a picture of their dead bodies if you really want to see them" He added.
"How can you tell me that some common body guards killed two trained assassins???" I asked curiously. I was finding it difficult to believe what he was saying. "It's not feasible!" I stated.
"Damn man! I'm not kidding! I'm a hundred percent serious" He said and paused. "I know I lie and I'm not trustworthy." Yup... that is so true "but I wouldn't lie to this extent." He said quite convincingly.
"I know all you want from me is my money." I said, giving up. "Just tell me how much I'm supposed to pay now."
"It's just 1.7 million dollars" He told me so carelessly... like if I pluck money from trees.
"Shit!" I exclaimed.
"I'll send my account number." He said plainly. He didn't even give a damn about my reaction. 'Such a bitchy leech!' I cursed.
"I can't pay that!"
"You got to pay for their deaths, you know" He said "You were to pay just a million dollars but because your assignment got them killed, you got to pay 1.7... Simple!" I just hated him!
"But since they're dead, isn't the price meant to reduce?? I don't have to pay them anymore" I further elaborated.
"It doesn't matter. It's your fault they got killed." He shot.
"How is that my fault? I wasn't the one supposed to train them... was I?" I shot back. I just couldn't accept to pay 1.7 mil to just one human bitch. Who am I? A dumb ass?
To be honest, if I was the one that trained them, they wouldn't have been dead.
"You probably don't know how much they are worth. That's why you're talking this way"
"How much are they worth that I should pay such an amount just because of them?" I asked. "I can't pay all that to you!" I declared.
"Well... you just have to" He said and cut the call.
I banged my fist on the hard wall after that. I was so angry. I wasted so much money on getting that boy killed but still, it was all fruitless. Nothing positive about it.
I was frustrated and tired of spending so much just to kill him.
I slowly picked up my phone and reluctantly sent 500 thousand to his account. It wasn't going to send the whole money at a time... even though 1.7 wasn't such a big deal to me.
Asking Logan for help was one very big mistake. He was so cunning; his men probably took money from that kid and now, him from me. By the way, how difficult was it for them to kill a fifteen year old boy??? It's not like he has any supernatural powers.
Anyways, I wasn't going to let my money go to waste. I'm John Coyde for God's sake!
Logan's P.O.V
'I just did it!' I thought as my heart jumped out of joy continuously.
Coyde just sent some money to my account immediately after I gave him my account number. It was so clean!
Happiness flowed through my veins as I heard the tone for the alert ring. I picked up my phone and opened the message.
'500K???' I thought as my eyes opened widely. Why did he send just 500K instead of the agreed 1.7M? I hoped he wasn't trying to play any crafty games with me. 'cause I'm the boss of 'crafty.'
Just as I was about to call, he called.
"Just five hundred thousand? That's not what we agreed on!" I stated
"I know... I know." He said, trying to calm me down. "I'll send the remaining money later" He added reassuringly.
"I hope you're not trying to play any games with me, Coyde!" I said. I knew he hated it when I called his surname the way I did.
"Of course I'm not" He said in a calm voice
"You better not be... 'cause you know what I can do if you mess with me Coyde" I threatened as I smirked. I imagined how annoyed his face looked right now.
"Yes… I know!" He said and cut the call.
********************
I just received a jackpot!!! I couldn't imagine what 500K was going to do for me. I was so happy; I didn't know how to celebrate.
Even though 500 thousand wasn't what we agreed on, I was still happy. I was sure he was going to send the balance some other time but for now, I was just going to be pleased with what I have.
It was actually difficult for me to make money from drugs. Finding the customers was difficult because of the law and worse; exporting them to other countries was more difficult for me. So, when I saw the alert, I was overjoyed. Losing Shawn and Xander was a really big blow to me... because they were worth a lot to me. Even the 1.7 would not be able to take care of their absence.
The best part of the whole thing was that I was going to get so much money for just a simple lie. Yes, it was a lie. I actually don't know where the heck Shawn and Xander were but I just knew they were somewhere having fun with their new found money and not in hell.
Anyway... it was equal because they got their share and I got mine also. I never really trusted that they will keep working for me. I knew that once they found greener grasses, they wouldn't hesitate to ditch me. And that exactly what they did in the end.
I didn't believe that John was stupid enough to believe the dumb lie I told him. I thought he was the super-smart, un-deceivable bad guy, John Coyde and not a naïve dumbass.
And he was right... how could mere body guards defeat former agents of the government? But he was dumb enough to believe that also.
Another mistake he made was not asking me to send a picture or proof of their deaths. I would have really fumbled there... even though I was behaving all confident about having their pictures and all, I didn't have any proof. If he decided to show up and tell me to show him their dead bodies, I wouldn't know what I'll do. Thankfully, he didn't ask for any proof and I hope he doesn't show up at any time.
I just made a big catch from a 'big man.' Hawaii, here I come!!!
