The man known as the infamous Miyazaki Taro stepped into the house and closed the door behind him.
He was a rough-looking man, his beard was rough and his hair was unkept. He wore dirty jeans and sneakers with a red hoodie.
Yumi stepped back from her mother, pushing her off. "Why did you bring him here?"
Her mother stood up. "Well, this is your father dear."
Yumi shook her head. "That man is NOT my father!!"
Taro held his hands out apologetically. "Come on sweetheart. Don't talk like that."
Yumi frantically looked for her phone and picked it up. She ran away to her room.
Yumi's mother called out after her but she kept running.
Yumi closed her room door and sat down with her back against the wall besides her bed, knees curled up.
--
Taro took off his shoes and started heading upstairs.
Yumi's mother reached a hand out and grabbed his arm. "That might not be such a good idea."
Taro looked back. "Ima. It'll be fine. I'm just checking up on her."
The woman named Miyazaki Ima let him go. "Don't do anything brash."
Taro said nothing as he went up the stairs to Yumi's room.
He knocked on the door. "Yumi? You in there?"
Yumi said nothing.
Taro opened the door gently. "Ah. So you are in here." he said, closing the door behind him.
Yumi shrunk away. "Get out of my room." she said quietly.
Taro walked closer to her. "It's been some years hasn't it? Now look at you, all grown up."
Yumi said nothing, not even looking at him.
Taro folded his arms. "I heard about your run-in with the cops. You killed a man, didn't you?"
Yumi shook her head. "I'm not like you."
Taro snorted. "Yeah right. Did you forget about our little secret?"
Yumi sunk her head in her arms.
Taro lifted his shirt, revealing a brutal scar. It was circular shaped, and relatively large. "Yumi. You did this to me. You almost killed me."
Yumi teared up. "It was self-defense!! I don't even know what happened!! If you weren't such a sick bastard then all of this would have never happened!!"
Taro began growing in size. "That's no way to speak to your father."
Yumi cried silently. "If you're planning on killing me then hurry up and do it. I don't care anymore."
Both of them heard the doorbell ring.
Taro returned to his normal height. He turned around and left the room.
Ima answered the door. It was Kurihara Takeshi. He introduced himself as an investigator for the police department.
She politely let him inside.
The Miyazaki residence was larger than the average house. Yumi's mother, Ima, was the CEO of a popular publishing company. She rarely came home, but in return Yumi lived a more-than-comfortable life.
Takeshi looked around the room. "Where is the girl? Miyazaki Yumi?"
Taro had just come downstairs. "In her room sulking. I wouldn't bother her if I were you."
Takeshi eyed the man. "Miyazaki Taro... I didn't expect to see you here. You do realize that you are a wanted man for a plethora of crimes and offenses?"
Taro grinned slyly. "You gonna arrest me Mr. Investigator?"
Takeshi wrote something in his notepad. "That wasn't my reason for coming here. I must see Yumi. It's important for my investigation. She is a suspect in a murder that occurred yesterday."
Ima took a step forward. "Yumi is innocent! She wouldn't kill anybody! This is pointless!"
Takeshi sighed as he wrote something down. "Ma'am I understand, but this is mandatory. Her accomplice, Sato Kasumi, ran away from me after I suspected her. By all means I should charge her with resisting arrest."
Ima frowned. "So what are you going to do with my daughter?"
Takeshi put his notepad in his suit's inside pocket. "I'm going to ask her if she can tell me who killed Nomura Rin."
"And if she can't?" Taro asked.
Takeshi pocketed his hands. "She will be arrested under suspicion of first degree murder."
Ima took another step forward. "I will not allow this! I told you that Yumi has nothing to do with this investigation! I'm just happy that she's safe! You are no longer welcome in my house! Leave!"
Takeshi sighed. His face became more stern. "I apologize, but I actually have the authority to search your house if one of the residents is a suspect."
Ima lashed out. "Don't make me call my lawyer! There's no evidence that my daughter killed anyone!!"
Takeshi calmly tilted his head to the side. "There's no evidence she didn't."
Taro placed his hand on Ima's shoulder. "Let him do his job. There's nothing you can do about it."
Ima smacked his hand off of her. "Don't touch me. We aren't that close."
Taro put his hands in his hoodie pockets. "Still got that bad attitude I see."
Ima gave him a sharp warning look. She looked back at Takeshi. "I don't want you near Yumi. Leave my home."
Takeshi pulled something from his pocket. It was a taser gun. He shot it at Ima. She screamed in pain as she fell to the ground, spazzing.
Takeshi put the taser away. "I apologize for using such force, but it's my job. Now if you'll excuse me."
Taro laughed at seeing Ima in pain. "Hey, that's a nice look you've got on your face there!"
Ima grimaced from the floor as she looked up at Taro. "I should've never brought you back..."
"Now, don't say that. I wanted to see my daughter is all. Nothing more than that. Don't worry, I'll be taking my leave soon."
--
Takeshi checked the rooms upstairs until he found Yumi's room. He opened the door without knocking. "So here you were hiding." he said.
Yumi kept her head down, not saying a word.
Takeshi pulled his notepad out. "So? You want to tell me anything about how Rin died?"
Yumi was silent.
Takeshi pulled out some handcuffs. The metal jingled as they hung from his hand. "I won't be as nice to you as I tried to be to Sato Kasumi. If you won't tell me what I need to know, then I'm taking you with me."
More silence.
Takeshi wrote something down in his notepad and put it away. He pulled Yumi up onto her feet and cuffed her hands behind her back.
Yumi's expression was dark. She seemed soulless almost.
Takeshi put a hand on her back and nudged her along. "Come on, this way."
Yumi's mother had an expression of horror on her face as she witnessed her daughter being arrested. She ran to Takeshi, ready to fight him to release Yumi, but Taro stood in her way, keeping a firm grip on her arm.
Ima smacked Taro repeatedly, yelling and crying.
"Let me go!! That's my daughter he's taking away!! Get off of me!!"
Taro remained calm. Yumi gazed her mother's way. For some reason she felt hopeless. That was her mother screaming for her. She looked at her father. He was smirking. As if glad she was being taken away. Not that it mattered. She hated that man with every fiber of her being.
Takeshi led Yumi into the back seat of his car. He closed the door behind her and drove off to the police station.
--
Kasumi had long hung up the phone. She knew something happened. She heard Yumi's mother over the phone, seemingly worried about her, but that wasn't a reason to stop talking.
Needless to say, Kasumi was concerned. She paced her room back and forth, trying to make sense of it all. There was no one for her to contact. Kouta was M.I.A., she couldn't get a hold of Yumi anymore, and no one outside of them would even give her the time of day. So she did what she could; stay put.
Kasumi let out a frustrated groan and flopped face first onto her bed.
