After one damn week of being stuck in a bed in the white and sterile medical room, Adam was about to start throwing things in boredom. The lessons weren't even good distractions. Because in spite of what Gramu said, he just got the review sheets instead of an actual lesson. Meaning he had to puzzle out every piece of damn information in the lesson without any help.
And good Goddess was he even more sick of engineering when he had to read it. without an instructor to make some sense of the subject matter, he tried to throw the papers into the trash multiple times. Charles was far too patient for a normal person as he collected the papers and brought them back to his master, hearing the young man grumble every time it happened.
Ugh and with how sparse Barruni had been, all he could do was think about what was happening. "Wait a second?" he called out, to the surprise of the staff members about to enter in order to cart him to his new living quarters. 'Did I seriously just use the Goddess' name as nothing but a curse? I NEED SOMETHING TO DO!' he was trying not to scream out his thoughts at this point.
"E-excuse me, sir?" A faint sound came from outside the medical room as Adam was finally thrown out of his thoughts and back into the present.
"You can enter," Adam responded calmly. returning to his position lying on the bed when he saw his slug friend enter the room, carrying portable devices that looked similar to the medical equipment Adam had attached to him.
"Good day Sir. Your living quarters have finally been completed and we are here to move you to your desired location." the slug man picked up for the small creature that looked similar to a centaur... if you replaced the horse part with more catlike features; and the upper body didn't look human.
"Please tell me that I'll finally be out of lockdown when I leave this room?" Adam asked in both desperation and exhaustion.
"Yes. only the medical rooms have their own intranet. you will be able to access anything you normally could as an officer in your new room. Your second slave will also be brought to her new sleeping location."
"Fhinally." Adam stated, his sigh of relief mixing with his statement as he just laid back onto the bed even further. watching as the team switched the devices that were monitoring him. changing the ports from the device if it was too troublesome or dangerous to take the objects out of the patient.
"Am I needed to carry Master?" Charles jumped into the conversation when he could, hoping to speed up the process so he could stop dealing with his master being bored.
"No, that is fine. you will be escorted to the room alongside your master." the cat-like being spoke up again. Adam could tell that her voice was female, in spite of her body showing no signs of her true gender. "Just stay out of our way." That line and the equivalent of a sneer that Adam picked up through his translator was all he needed to know about how the woman felt about slaves.
"You can go without me if you want," Adam suggested to Charles, the slave not making any reaction to Adam's suggestion... mainly because it was hidden by the armor that he couldn't take off. not the fact he didn't react to his master.
"Thank you Master. I will meet you there." Charles was loyal to his master. but after a full week of listening to the young man do nothing but complain was getting to even his patience. He needed some time alone to relax.
Adam would watch his slave lumber out of the medical room with as much interest as anything else that had happened while he was stuck healing from his wound. But it didn't take long for him to begin to be taken to his new permanent living quarters.
it was a very peculiar feeling to be carted along the halls of the capital ship by random people. The feeling of having a personal escort wasn't an unwelcome one. Maybe when he had enough money he could buy slaves to do this for him?
"No, don't think about that," Adam said as he shook his head. "Don't become like them." He knew power corrupted most people if not all. and with the amount of favouritism one was given if they had power, he had to be wary and keep his head. he was advertising himself as better than the Vanid, if he didn't have enough to outweigh their power, he was done for.
That said, Adam could think of ways that he could exploit the corruption in the system instead of rebelling first. he saw one of the male employees being harassed by soldiers as he headed towards the storage areas... heh seems a storage room was repurposed to be his living quarters. that would make sense with the amount of time it took to organise.
Back on topic though 'I really need to stop going on tangents. where is my medication?' Adam's thoughts ran on, ironically, another tangent. Adam just needed to deceive enough people to get his way. and in this society where the only ones remotely skilled in deception were the Vanid... he could do some good work with them.
His thoughts were interrupted right as they began to get going though when a door opened to a room that he... "What the hell?" was all he could say. he expected one of the small storage areas but as he entered the first room of his living quarters.
It was a good-sized sitting room with Barruni sitting beside a table, trying to figure out what Adam could swear was tea... which was pretty funny for him when he thought about it. Watching Rutemia try and figure out the intricate way of cooking tea leaves instead of using the normal tea bags used by the normal people
"The instructions didn't tell you to add the leaves into the boiling water this soon. read them again." Adam couldn't help but snigger as his bed moved, allowing him to see that Charles was beside his humanoid slave, giving the young woman instructions like he was her tea instructor, in spite of the fact he didn't have the appendages to make tea.
"Cut her some slack Charles. it's not that easy to make good tea from scratch. most people use the premade tea-bags for a reason." Adam tried to calm down the slave, who was probably still begrudging at Barruni's new position but had to hold it back for his master's sake.
"I must teach her dedication since you have not been here to do so master." Charles retorted. "As I am the highest authority under you when you are ill. I will make sure that you will not be betrayed by a lazy or malicious slave." Adam could only sigh as he was taken into the bedroom. where he was slowly and carefully transferred from his medical bed to his new bed.
"You have done good work. you can go now." Adam tried to dismiss the workers that had been taking care of him, only to realize one tangent he was supposed to bring up now. "Could any of you bring me my medication?"
"That has been given to your slaves Sir," the catlike being said as they left the room. they seemed very eager to leave, while everyone else gave Adam a salute as they left, she didn't even bother to tell the slaves of Adam's request.
"Do I really need to learn this?" Barruni groaned again. she had been sitting on the table with the instructions as Charles entered the room, immediately moving up to her and ordering her to make tea for their master. She had gotten used to being treated like a slave now, but having to treat someone as her master was still foreign to her.
"Master let you keep your position as a soldier, he would've been better off selling you off to buy a properly loyal slave. you want to stay on his good side as you said, you need to serve him. now just hope that you don't spend too long making unacceptable drinks for him. a useless slave is worse than a cheap one."
