After not seeing his slaves open the door to his bedroom, Adam would call out to them. He was now on his tablet, reading the novels he had been missing since he was hospitalized. "Damn why is it so necessary to have bodyguards?"
"What did you say, Master?" Barruni asked when she opened the door, barely noticing the words Adam spoke under his breath.
"Nothing of importance Barruni. could you get me my medication? I'd like to start using it again and have a more easy time shifting my focus." He saw the female nod and head out of the room, only for Charles to almost bark at her in questioning. "Seems they're going to have an interesting dynamic for a good while."
"Could you leave me be for five seconds?" Barruni asked in anger, moving over to the cupboards to see if she could find the medication her master asked for.
"I asked you what Master wanted, before you screwed up again."
"Why do you think I'll screw up!" Barruni turned around and yelled at the slave. "you're just some pathetic bodyguard mount! leave me alone to do my job."
"At least I'm loyal!" Charles yelled, the anger of the two bubbling up from all the stress of the situation.
"You two shut up and make up, while I can ignore arguing I don't want to have to deal with you two badgering each other because you didn't stop and think!" Adam yelled through the door, and while it took a moment for the two to figure out how badger made sense as a word, even if their translators had been specially designed for it, they did get shocked out of their blind anger.
"I'm sorry," Charles spoke up first, taking a moment to think about what their arguing could cause for their master. "I did not mean to alienate you, I just wish to see my master prosper from this event instead of fall even further behind."
Barruni found the medication then, taking it out of the cupboard to extract a pill to add to her master's tea. "As long as you don't treat me like some child who needs to be disciplined every day, I won't be so snappy towards you." not as much of an apology from Barruni, but Charles could already tell that she didn't like to give up.
"would you like for me to carry the tea set on my back?" Charles suggested, the mounted part of his armor was a good place to set and carry things surprisingly, not just humans.
"No thanks. I think he will appreciate it more if I make the effort to do this myself." Barruni shot the male down, her nostrils filling with the peculiar scent of the tea she was going to serve her master. it was definitely different than the meaty or sweet tastes that her race preferred. She wondered how it would taste to him, or if they just tasted the same thing but he liked the taste.
"Master." Barruni called out, watching the door open promptly after she awkwardly positioned her hands to press the button but still keep both holding the plate with the tea upright. 'I've prepared some tea for you." She finished up, walking over to the bed with the young man that she... had to accept owned her, but every time she said master her heart twinged in pain.
"Oh, thanks Barruni. I hope it wasn't too difficult for you." Adam stated with a kind expression, taking the plate off her and putting it on his legs. the plate was great at preventing heat from moving to the bottom, leaving his legs still nice and cool despite the hot tea resting just above them.
"It is my duty master." Barruni replied, still slightly annoyed at how weird the male was being. she didn't like being confused about someone else's intentions, especially with all the rumors she heard about patriarchal species.
"True. I was thinking about letting you just use the cheap, quick brew tea but with you being my only slave who can service someone, you'll need to learn how to prepare drinks for whichever guest I have over." he states almost absentmindedly.
"Well let's see if your tea is any good." Adam said, not really getting that he was being highly critical of Barruni. He took the medication on the plate and downed it with a good helping of tea from the cup Barruni had set for him.
As for the tea? it was interesting. Adam had hardly had much properly prepared tea, but when he had done, like with Alluris. He had been surprised with the quality and taste of it. he had definitely been one of those "method doesn't change taste much" people until he had tasted that tea. so to taste Barruni's, well he couldn't tell whether he enjoyed it or not.
"Not bad for a first time Barruni, keep it up and you'll be able to satisfy anyone coming over." Adam finally broke the silence, by right after taking another sip of the tea
"Thank you." she heaved a sigh of relief, she wasn't hoping for his enjoyment for any desire to see him happy, she just knew if he appreciated her work she wouldn't be sold off for money and a better servant. She had been given a better chance, she wasn't losing it.
"Would you like anything else Master?" Alluris asked, She didn't know what would be expected of her other than her work as a soldier and serving him in a maid-esque way in her free time. but other than that she could only fear the possibilities.
"No that's all for now. I doubt this place needs cleaning and I have nothing else for you to do, so go out and relax. it'll help you and Charles cool off and talk with each other again with a level head."
This ticked Barruni off a little. once again being treated like she was still immature. She was a woman, dangit! She should be treated better than this by a man... And while she was walking over to the exit of Adam's private quarters she realised how stupid that sounded. she could be so impulsive sometimes.
As she left the room though she was immediately yanked into one side of the corridor by a three taloned hand. "Cruma?" She called immediately, recognising her only remaining friend on the ship. "Why are you here?"
"I wanted to get you out of that man's clutches as fast as possible. I have no idea what he's going to do to you." Cruma said harshly, despite the fact that Adam had been far too kind to Barruni. "But you've become a weak link for him, and I can get you into a good position with the Vanid you allied yourself to."
"Wait what? How could you do that?" Barruni was shocked, but Cruma jumped right in for the kill.
"Because that human not only took you as a slave, but he's also taken lots of money from her in reparations. The Vanid is willing to buy you when you go on the market when the human dies. all you need to do is give us an opening to get him."
Barruni took a moment to think that over. it was definitely a dream to serve the Vanid as a personal slave, especially since she lost so much from her last deal with the Vanid... but if she failed or was caught? The fear set in again, Barruni couldn't stand the thought of dying, she wanted to avoid it at all costs. "C-could I take some time to think about it?" She could only speak softly now.
"Cruma immediately understood what Barruni was going through, the only thing that could scare Barruni to the point where she would speak timidly is when she was afraid of death. "Don't worry about it. it's not like we'll be able to do it any time soon. the leadership is all up in arms about protecting their officers from your last stunt. you have time to get yourself in order."
This allowed Barruni to heave a sigh of relief as she was allowed time to think. "Well, you want to go hang out somewhere? I'd love to just relax after the chaos I've had to deal with this past week."
