Chapter 10 - EXCLUSIVE

There was a deafening silence at the end of the line, I looked down at the pregnancy test and felt guilty because the dates did not seem to match up. According to the test, I was ten weeks along. There was no way...

" You know what, I shouldn't have sprung this on you like that...just forget it".

"No no no baby, I'm just speechless. We are pregnant", he acknowledged.I gave him some time to think over what I'd just said.

"You can't be out there doing what I think you're doing while carrying the baby. Please come home so we can think of another way." He was worried about our babies; I felt my heart swell with pride.

"Yeah, I understand that but I can't tonight. How about we meet somewhere discreet in a few days? Don't forget to bring Max with you. I'll contact you when it's time."

I could tell that my proposition was not good enough for him but he sighed and agreed, "fine but if anything happens I want you to call me, no matter the time".

"Yes father", I whispered mockingly.

He paused through the phone and told me to, "say that again?"

"You heard me."

The conversation ended abruptly as two black cars appeared down the road. I had to get back to my place regardless of the previous attacks. I needed some special equipment for tonight. I tossed the phone, turned on the engine and got out of there.

When I arrived to my apartment, it appeared clear of any possible threats. The lights were off, there were no other vehicles near it, but I knew better than to allow my eyes to deceive me. I parked the car behind the building across from my apartment and snuck up the stairs.

I had a gift all wrapped up in a secret location and I needed it right about now.

There was a single mother living right across from me.

She confided in me, we became friends, and I figured that if anything were to go south; she would be the last person suspected of having an illegal rifle in her vent.

"Good morning Myra", I ran up to her and hugged her. She was the only person outside of Max, Nolan and Jeremy that I trusted. Although, she still didn't know everything about me.

We caught up for a few minutes and I handed her some cash, told her it was a gift for being there for me and to take her daughter out for the night.

She was extremely thankful, got the little girl dressed, and told me to lock up.

As soon as I saw her car leaving through the window. I placed a chair under the vent and reached for the briefcase. Once I had it opened, I took the earpiece that I hid in there and attempted to send Nolan a signal.

"Nolan can you hear me?"

"Zena darling, where have you been? I've been waiting for you to contact me, How's Max?"

"With his father", I responded.

"You mean you finally came clean, I wouldn't have done th-"

I cut him off by saying, "Nolan are you near your computer?" I could almost feel him smiling on the other end. "Of course baby, where are you? I'll be your guardian angel".

"Can you access the building across the street from my place? My tracker had an unfortunate accident", I mentioned while assembling my rifle. Since I started working with my agency, I never did like being spied on. My trackers have all suffered a terrible demise.

I gave him a second and heard, "I'm in but cameras are not installed where you are; I can take over your apartment's tech controls though".

"That'll be perfect, I need you to access my apartment and all of the digital controls", I demanded.

"All done, waiting on you".

I dimmed the lights, grabbed the untraceable phone out of the case and placed it in my pocket. I found my vintage point and placed the gun so that I could steadily control it.

I switched to thermal, in search of any heat being emitted in the form of a human being.

I counted about eight of them hiding behind various furniture and three looking around, all holding weapons.

Taking out the targets who were hiding was easy, until they began to panic. I managed to take out the ones standing, but two of my targets decided to run for the door. I took them out one by one and looked for more.

"Nolan can you turn on the lights in my apartment and give me a reading."Without hesitation I heard, "all out cold, nice work princess, anything else?"

"Actually yes can you get me a meeting with Mr. Abawi?"

"Father or son?" he asked.

I thought about my plan and answered, "son...of course".

"They are having a little gathering a week from now at their estate. The place might be crawling with crooked cops for their protection, but if you're up to it I can get you in...exclusively".

I thought about it some more and answered, "have I ever told you that I love you?"

"You know I got you Zee, can you handle it from here?"

"No doubt".
