Chapter 11 - MY PLEASURE

After I searched my apartment; I got some clothes and some more work equipment. I turned off all the lights, and called my agency, expecting to speak to anyone but my boss.

"Ms. Carter we need you to stand down. Whatever kind of crusade you're on will get you killed. I'll send someone over to clean up your mess, but know that we have this under control", David instructed.

I remained silent on the line and thought of why I even began working for this nut case.

"Those bastards are threatening my life and my child. I refuse to let you guys fuck this up for me, because if they kill me and my family, all you'll have to say is 'sorry we tried'; I can't let that happen", I blurted out and hung up.

'That rat bastard. He's got something in this I know it.'

I drove my car to a remote location, hotwired another and drove to the precinct. Since Jeremy admitted that he was having trouble getting a divorce, I figured I could make the decision much easier for him.

The precinct was surrounded by police vehicles, obviously I couldn't just march in there and demand the chief to back off. I looked around and there was a homeless man drinking out of a brown bag. I handed him some cash in exchange for the bottle and spilled some of the liquid in the car; I drove it into one of the patrol cars.

The blaring sirens cut through the air as I was being cuffed and pushed towards the entrance.

While in the precinct, I waited to be processed. I saw the same men from the motel come in through the front door, looking extremely determined and set on collecting bodies...specifically mine.

I spat a metal hair clip onto my lap and lowered my head as I used the clip to remove the handcuffs.

"Hey you guys can't be in here!" I heard a man yell.

"Yes we can, courtesy of Mr. Abawi. We're here for the girl."

I hurried and kept my head down as I removed my jacket and wig. The men kept the precinct on high alert, they couldn't help but make a scene. Perfect distraction for me.

The chief's office door came open and he stepped out to mitigate the situation. I snuck in behind him and placed one of Nolan's computer chips in his work desktop.

After texting Nolan, I made my way to the first emergency exit I found and left the premises.

The next morning.

I decided to follow the chief to get some more information on his personal life. I stayed a nice distance from his vehicle and followed him for several hours. I got to see his daughter, the complete opposite of me: Long dark hair, prissy attitude, delicate, and an inflated sense of entitlement. "I can totally see why Jeremy chose to marry her", I scoffed.

After a while, I got what I needed. I changed in my car then drove several miles down the road to an old broken down motel to get myself a room.

Everything was very old and rugged, the area surrounding it wasn't the safest. I carried my bags into the room and dropped them on the bed. I got undressed and prepared for a nap.

I woke up at around four because of my morning sickness. My stomach turned as I stared at the filthy toilet.

After taking care of myself, I put all of my issues aside and focused on gathering some intel from the computer chip. Nolan had hacked into the chief's computer and the cameras. There was a deal to be made and I had to be ready at all fronts.

The morning sun came and I went back to follow our dear friend, the chief. This evidence needed to be concrete and convincing, otherwise I may lose my son's father.

Several hours had passed and I decided to sneak into his office; this time with a little bribe. Money does make the world go around afterall.

"Good afternoon Chief", I greeted as he stepped into his own office. "How did you get in here?" He asked flustered, closing the door behind him.

"You have something of mine and I'm cashing in a favor."

I rose up from his spinning chair and gestured for him to have a seat. He complied.

"Very nice, I don't need you to speak for now. I just want you to listen to my proposition".

He nodded suspiciously and crossed his legs.

"There is a man by the name of Jeremy Davis, I believe he is one of your guys. I want him off the streets, I have some...business with him and I need you to turn a blind eye".

He glanced at me and said, "you can't kill a detective without causing a bit of a ripple effect; besides, the man is married and is trying to start a family. Taking him out would not be of interest to anyone", he pleaded for the sake of his daughter.

"Look, the reason why I came here instead of kidnapping and torturing you is because I respect you. Now I never claimed that I would kill him, what I want is for him to be transferred...I have plans for him. Furthermore, Elaine would not really miss him that much considering what she's been up to lately".

He straightened himself out, got up and stared me in my face; then realization hit him. "You love him don't you?"

I clenched my teeth at the fact that I was so transparent when it came to Jeremy.

"Well they say, love can make a woman do unspeakable things...you know, Darlene was inconsolable the night she was murdered; something about her husband being a no good cheater. Remember her? She was the love of your life until power got over your head. That's when you contacted my people, after she threatened to take you for all you've got when she caught on to your lying, cheating ways".

He looked at me with utter loathing, and sat back down.

I took the opportunity to say, "I have no doubt in my mind that you have been involved in some seriously disturbing and quite illegal things, let me remind you that executing is what I do, but this time, if you choose to double cross me...I won't kill you, I'll kill your daughter".

I took out the file I printed from his computer, placed them on the desk.

"Have fun reading".
