Ethan managed to roll. Landing hard on his feet. Hard enough to send the jolt all the way up through his hips. His knees burned, and his hips popped when he tried to walk the rough landing off. He gripped his bad arm with his good one.
I don't know how I managed to avoid landing on someone. My breath came in hard hot gasps. Cackling with lightning. I was angry, and wounded so the first place that had popped into my mind was the place was the only place I associated with wyverns. I slowly rolled back to my feet as blood poured from the deep wounds on my back.
The men that were guarding the destroyed warehouse looked more then a little shocked when I appeared in the middle of the ruined building. I stood slowly. My wounded leg couldn't hold my weight without some extreme pain. I breathed light mana onto the wound to get the healing process started. I needed the leg to stand, but it was obvious that my back was in pretty bad shape too.
The three deep gashes that managed to go over my spine made my entire ridgeline feel as if someone had done a bad job of hammering nails all the way down it.
"Damn," I hissed through my teeth as I tried to straighten out.
My wounded leg hung off the ground as I kept it held up where it could rest as I healed it. My nearly depleted mana reserve was angry with me. It had been a long time since I'd gotten anything that resembled mana sickness, but the way my temperature was rising told me that I was going to be sick for a day or two. This world wasn't doing me any favors. I'd lapsed slightly in my mana circulation.
So right now I was not only fighting off a fever, but I was also fighting off the foreign poisonous mana of this world. It wouldn't have been much of a problem if I still had most of my reserve to work with, but I didn't. My mana had nearly run dry. It would take me a couple days to recover from a fight that had barely lasted five minutes. A lot of recovery for not a lot of work.
I'd be out of commission for at least a day. My leg gave slightly when I tried to put weight on it again. I didn't like leaving all this blood around for Eric to collect, but I wasn't really in any condition to stop him. Best I could do was stay here, and prevent him from getting a fresh sample. I flicked my tail in agitation.
I couldn't stop him without letting on what I knew. Just appearing here was risky enough already. I laid down slowly in the wreckage of the building. Allowing my damaged body to relax. Eric would come here soon if he was in the guild.
I kept breathing weak plumes of light element onto my deep gashes. I couldn't use mana directly from my reserve without risking my health. Savannah held her ribs as she slid down my side. I didn't know how she'd managed to stay on my back through that landing. I glanced at Ethan between breaths.
He popped his arm back into place with a quick sickening crunch. He took the pain well enough. He was even volunteering to take more of my pain. I snorted in pain as I laid there. If it weren't for the massive wounds on my back, and left leg you wouldn't be able to tell I was wounded at all.
Savannah, and Ethan looked like they were in worse shape then I was. My wings drooped to the ground. Hiding even more of my injury with a casual movement. I pretended to be fine despite the pain I was in. My allies were the only ones that needed to know I was about to collapse from a fever.
Even if my body temperature was rising high enough that I was starting to glow red with heat.
"What the hell happened?" one of the guards yelled at us.
"A bad fucking day," Ethan shouted back at the guy before I could, "Your boss will explain it all later. For now I need help with my broken fucking arm, and she needs something for her ribs."
The guard was slightly taken aback by the sudden shouting. Ethan had never ordered anyone around before. He was being aggressive. Now that I knew it was from him allowing my personality to bleed into his own I was a little unsure about how I felt about it. I watched the human guards warily.
Standing up slowly so I looked more intimidating as they moved closer. They stopped approaching. Savannah, and Ethan chose to approach them instead since I didn't feel well enough to let some stranger come up to me. I refused to collapse in front of these strangers, and the heat coming off of me from my fever was giving them an impression of strength. It was strength I didn't have, but I didn't mind the incorrect assumption.
The stronger they thought I was the less they'd think about doing anything stupid. I laid down slowly when they didn't approach me any closer. I was actually very exhausted, and the wound was bothering me badly. I continued to give off an impression of strength while I was laying there with a fever that was hot enough to start melting the pavement beneath my belly. Last time hadn't been this bad.
It probably had something to do with my increased amount of mana. I kept a watchful eye on my surroundings despite the intense heat, and cold I was giving off simultaneously as lightning dances on my breath. Savannah, and Ethan left to get better treatment. The guards all stayed at the edge of the crumbling building. None of them wanted to approach me.
I was glad about that. I didn't want to deal with a bunch of annoying guards. Eric was the first one to break the circle, and walk up to me directly.
