Savannah laid her hand over mine on the armrest, and it suddenly got easier to hold back the torrent of emotions.
"Thanks," I whispered.
"No problem," she tightened her grip on the back of my hand.
Mathew was the first to strike. I tracked his wind attack using my own affinity. I could tell when it hit Ethan's mental barrier. I could feel it divide to go around the barrier. Heading along its intended path with a little less force then before, and striking a force that was hugging the outside of Ethan.
Ethan tensed when the second impact hit. Using the tension in his legs to keep his footing stable as he slid back four feet.
"Nice," I silently cheered for Ethan as he rushed forward.
Throwing out attacks made purely out of his mental energy. Mathew dodged them by sensing the disturbance in the air. It wasn't an accurate way to track telekinetic energy, but there was a sureness to his movements that I didn't like. Ethan continued blocking while throwing out mental attacks. Mathew continued dodging Ethan's attacks, and lashing out with his own using the minimal mana required.
I didn't know how the energy abilities used worked so I couldn't track Ethan's condition as accurately as I would have liked. If a mage ran out of mana they would be physically exhausted no matter what. If an ability ran out of energy then it would just stop working leaving the user physically fine. I had an accurate gauge of how Ethan's physical condition, but not how much energy his ability was using. Mathew on the other hand had a little over half the mana I had in my reserve.
I'd peg him around two thirds my strength. Mana wise. Ethan's eyes started glowing as he started throwing more of his strength around. Forcing Mathew to focus on defense. Ethan was throwing his all into it, but his attacks still weren't getting to him.
Mathew was a wind affinity mage. They were all about evasion from what I could tell, and Mathew had learned well. Ethan kicked up a massive amount of sand sized debris in an attempt to obscure his brother's vision, and get a hit in.
"That won't work," My hands tensed again.
"What do you mean?" Savannah asked.
"Ethan's brother can still see," I crushed the armrest until they were completely destroyed.
Ethan was hit by three attacks at once. The barrier directly around his body protected him from any lethal injury, but the hits hurt. I wanted to rush down there, but I stopped myself. Ethan didn't want me to interfere. I reminded myself of that over, and over again as I tried not to act as Ethan continued to fail at getting his foothold on the fight back.
Attacks started getting through Ethan's defense more, and more often. Ethan kept trying to get himself together, and get some attacks through. It wasn't working. Then one of the wind blades Mathew threw out broke through Ethan's defense. Leaving a shallow cut on his arm. Ethan tried to get his barrier back up enough to block the next two attacks.
Ethan had run out of ability to use. Mathew had a little under half of his mana left from what I could tell. He stopped using wind blades, and started tossing him around like a rag doll before slamming him into the ground. He kept throwing Ethan around until Ethan was starting to look more like a bloody mess than a person. I went to stand up as my rage changed my eyes.
"Don't," Savannah stopped me.
"But Ethan..." I looked at Savannah.
"Ethan will heal," Savannah tried to pull me back down.
Mathew slammed Ethan into the ground one last time before walking towards his beaten brother as Ethan struggled to get back up. She's right. I tried to convince myself as Mathew kicked Ethan in the gut. I flinched in response. Squinting my eyes at the fight because I couldn't watch this, but at the same time I couldn't look away.
Another gut shot. I clenched, and bared my teeth. A sharp kick to the head, and Ethan's emotions went dark. I relaxed slightly. Thinking the fight was over, and that Ethan wouldn't be getting beat anymore. Mathew started raising his foot again.
I knew Mathew was going to hit him. I didn't need to think about it. I knew it. I just moved. Savannah wasn't enough to stop me anymore.
Mathew's foot started coming down. I went through the fence, and the barrier in an instant, and was down on the floor of the arena catching Mathews foot with my hand palm up. Crouched just above Ethan's head. Electricity that had been arcing up, and down my body fading. My eyes down, and focused on Ethan's bloodied face.
"What the hell are you doing?" Mathew yanked his foot out of my grip, and staggered back.
"He's down," I kept my eyes on Ethan, "Why would you keep hitting him?"
"Who the fuck are you?" Mathew shouted as he started circulating his mana in the air around him.
"He's down," I released the full force of my murderous intent, "Why would you keep hitting him?"
Mathews eyes widened as he stepped away from me. His mana disturbed by the sudden impact of my murderous intent.
"He..." Mathew hesitated slightly, "...shouldn't have fought me. He knew he was going to lose. He should have given up."
I looked at him as rage contorted my expression. My mana lashed out. My elements responded to my power as a tornado formed around me. Lightning danced off the tips of my fingers, and the ground rumbled. Water was the only element that didn't respond erratically.
Circling down around Ethan, and healing him. The slight glow of the water when it rested over, and healed Ethan wounds one by one. I inhaled slowly, and exhaled slowly. Once wasn't enough to calm me completely so I did it another three times, and my elements settled when I did. The only element I kept active was water.
