"We're dismissed?" Ivan stood up hesitantly.
"Yes you are," Goliath crossed his big arms slowly.
"Why?" Ivan looked really nervous.
"I cannot come up with a perfect lesson plan for eighteen students with completely different abilities," Goliath nodded to himself, "Unique abilities require unique ways of fighting. If you need help with hand to hand combat I can help you with that, but my ability is class D, and therefore ill suited to teach ability use class B, and C students. If you want to work on your hand to hand combat one on one with me than send me a message, and I'll set you up a time, and work with your partners. I didn't pair you up with them for fun."
Savannah, and I waited for everyone else to leave. I didn't even think of speaking out until we were alone with Goliath.
"Why did you have to pair her with me?" I snapped.
"She's a mage," Goliath walked down to stand not far from us, "A weak one, but still talented. You have your talents, but your lack of self control needs a lot of work. Savannah has the self control you lack. Learn from each other, and you'll improve faster."
I slumped back in my seat. Goliath's knowledge was quickly becoming an annoyance. He threw us together because we were mages. He wouldn't change his mind because I didn't like it. I stood up to leave, and strode out of the room.
Savannah could follow me if she wanted I didn't care. I was going to lunch. I walked into the cafeteria, and grabbed as much meat as they would let me as usual. I sat down, and started eating. Savannah sat across from me.
"You eat a lot," Savannah picked at her salad.
"I always eat a lot," I said between mouthfuls.
"So where do you plan to practice?" Savannah looked at my rapidly disappearing pile of food.
"My room," I dropped my fork on a now empty plate, "It's the safest place for me. After all," I closed my eyes as I focused on Ethan, "Ethan's almost done with his club meeting after all."
"How do you know?" Savannah asked.
I gave her a narrow sideways glance, and stood up grabbing my tray. I don't know why she thought I was going to answer that one. I crossed the room, and dropped my tray in the bin to be cleaned. I speed walked across the school grounds. Savannah knew where my room was.
If she lost me she could find my room. She knew where it was after all. I strode into the elevator, and clicked the button. Leaning against the side wall, and ignoring the people behind me. Savannah managed to get in the elevator with me.
I didn't really care. I knew she was going to end up in my room anyways so there was no point in getting mad about it now. I think I was more irritated about the fact that I would have to stay up. Great now I have enough mental maturity to give up. Still not mentally mature enough to act that way when I got irritated enough.
I wouldn't be able to get out of my disguise. I walked into my room. Leaving the door open so Savannah could follow me in. I sat down, and faced her as she closed the door.
"So," I frowned, "How are we supposed to help each other?"
"You need to learn control," Savannah leaned next to the door, "I need more power." Savannah swallowed, "I've felt the spikes in power from this dorm. If you are as powerful as the spikes in mana suggest then once you have a decent control over your mana you'll be able to force my mana reserves into expanding."
"So I quit throwing bursts of air, and ice out," I thought about what she was offering, "And you get stronger in exchange. I don't see how that's a fair trade off."
"That's surprising coming from someone who wants to hide so badly," Savannah chuckled to herself mostly, "If you learn even basic mana control you'll be able to hide your mana from other mages. Hiding your mana away will keep other mages like me from detecting you."
"Let's get started then," I waited for her to demonstrate the control she said she had.
Savannah held out her hand materializing a little ball of fire above her palm. I felt my muscles tense as I leaned back.
"This is a visual representation of my magic," she spoke slowly as she observed my reaction, "Now watch this."
The flames spread changing into the shape of a rose. Then the flame changed into the shape of a tree. The detail of the small flame tree that was forming in front of me was incredible.
"The more detailed of elemental form you can make the better your control is," Savannah let her flame fade away, "Your turn."
"I can't do that," I stared at her.
"Yes," Savannah smiled, "I know you can't because you keep giving off random elemental bursts," Savannah's smile dropped, "Every single time you get irritated or emotional at all. Which is why you are going to practice." Savannah paused, " A lot."
I sighed heavily. Closing my eyes for a moment as I debated on whether I should accept her training or not.
"Ethan's here," I looked at the door.
Savannah gave me a funny look for a second. Then the door opened, and Ethan came in. Ethan gave Savannah a wide berth as he headed for the other desk chair.
"Close the door," I refocused on Savannah.
"How did you do that?" Savannah closed the door as asked.
"None of your business," I narrowed my eyes at her, "I'm not telling you anything I don't have to," Something about her that was bothering me resurfaced in my mind, "Why haven't you turned me in yet? I mean really. My very existence is illegal."
"You said you didn't choose to be this way," Savannah relaxed back into the wall, "How do you become a mage without trying to become one? I practiced for months just to get mana in the first place. Years longer to develop a strong connection to my fire affinity, and get in control of that element. So how did you get magic in the first place, and how did you not choose to have magic?"
