Chapter 63 - Prep for rift city 3

"She knows I have magic," I looked at Ethan, "Me talking is stopping her from turning me in."

"It's risky though," Ethan glanced at the floor number as we went down, "She'll know enough to counter your magic if she needs to."

"She's right though," I looked up to the floor number as the elevator stopped, "If I don't get better control by the time we head to rift city I'm dead."

We walked out of the elevator together. Heading for the cafeteria quickly. We ended up next to each other in line as we got food. We sat down together at a table, and Savannah joined us not too long after we sat down. We didn't talk the whole time we were eating, and we split up to go to our dorm rooms when we were done eating.

It was the first time Savannah had split off from the two of us since Goliath had paired me up with her. We walked into the dorm together, and I went into my room to toss off my clothes, and switch forms. I came back out when I was done, and laid down on the floor looking at Ethan with half lidded eyes. I hadn't had a chance to talk with him alone in a long time.

"I've learned a lot from Savannah believe it or not," I smiled at Ethan.

"I know you need her help to learn things," Ethan sat down at the desk, "But she's a risk."

"You were a risk," I chuckled quietly, "And now I trust you more than anyone in the world."

"Yeah," Ethan leaned on the desk, "I know you do. You wouldn't have bonded with me if you didn't. It's just that she's an Earl." he looked at the closed window curtain, "And she's a fire mage. There's no way she isn't related to Magnus Earl of the four greats."

"You think she's related to one of the four greats?" I yawned slowly as my head drooped.

"Did you listen to me earlier when I told you how hard it is to get approved to learn Archaic abilities in the first place?" Ethan leaned up looking back at me, "There's no way she's not related to him in one way or another. That makes her one of the most dangerous people in the world for you."

"I don't think she'll tell," I yawned slowly as I stood up stretching.

My wings halfway extending as I stretched.

"How do you know?" Ethan watched me as worry flowed through our bond.

"Call it an instinct," I folded my wings tightly, "If I told her everything right now she would tell, but as long as she keeps thinking I'm a struggling unlucky kid that happens to be a mage she won't say a thing." I went through the open door to my room, "That, and I can make her more powerful. She's not going to give me up easily."

"You're sure?" Ethan locked eyes with me.

"If I wasn't sure I wouldn't still be here," I smiled at Ethan without showing my teeth, "Trust me Ethan."

"Okay," Ethan nodded, "But I will be keeping an eye on her anyways."

Trust bond level up. Trust bond with ally Ethan is now level 6.

A splitting headache shot through both of us. Making us both flinch. I could now sense a little more of Ethan's emotional state. I growled to myself as I shook my head slowly. The pain faded quickly as I closed my door, and climbed into bed.

System don't let my mana leak out while I'm sleeping.

System will contain, and hide users mana.

Good I snorted as my eyes drifted closed. I fell asleep soon after that. Wednesday went pretty much the same as Tuesday. Only I gained a level in marksmanship instead of mana control. Savannah seemed confused, and frustrated with how quickly I'd learned something that had taken her months to get down, but I had help to learn it. Not just her help either.

The system kept track of everything I was trying to learn. Storing the feelings, and information I needed to do exactly what I wanted with my body. Sometimes the system had even more information than necessary. It surprised me sometimes when it knew something. Thursday came far faster than I wanted it to.

I went about my day as usual, but after classes Savannah grilled me particularly hard on everything she had been teaching me. It was actually what I was doing now.

"Come on," Savannah's voice was raised out of frustration as I failed to do some pretty complex wind manipulation, "Wind isn't that much harder to control than water. You should have this down by now."

"I'm sorry, but you're the one that made me switch elements all of a sudden," I snapped back at her.

Ethan was sitting in as something of a moderator to keep my temper in check after days of Savannah's insistent training. I'd been able to keep my temper in check for the most part by reminding myself that she was helping me, but my irritation was reaching its peak now that she was pushing me even harder than she had before. It didn't help that I couldn't play in my room like before due to my size increase either. There was already cracks in the wall from me flapping my wings in my sleep. Which just added to my irritation since I wanted to fly so badly that I was trying to do it in my sleep.

I couldn't go to a VR pod, and test them out with Savannah on my heels all the time. She would realize that I was lying if she tried to log in with us. By now she had spent enough time with me to know my voice as well as some of my mannerisms. Knowing my luck she'd find me out in the first round, and I really didn't need that right now. Every time Ethan was sure I was about to loose it he'd step in, and calm me down.
