Chapter 54 - Back to combat

Some of the other students started to trickle back in. I was almost surprised that Savannah came back, but she was waiting for me to screw up. That kind of required her to be nearby. She'd be stalking me for the rest of the year. I sighed.

I didn't want her following me around. Most of the club members actually did come back. I wasn't surprised that I didn't see Amelia. She would probably be late tomorrow with how badly I'd scared her.

"Jason Moody," Goliath called.

Jason stood up not bothering to argue with Goliath. He pulled his glasses off, and cleaned them as he headed down to the arena. Putting them back on just before stepping over the rail, and heading down to the center path. After the last couple fights I didn't know what to expect from the kid with the glasses as he stood in the middle of the path waiting for the simulation to start. He was really nervous from the way he kept fidgeting with his cleaning cloth.

I wondered what his ability was as a snake creature slowly formed on the path. He started shaking in place as he watched the snake finish forming. He flinched when the snake started moving. The snake raised it's head ready to strike. When it did strike he cried out falling on his ass, and trying to squirm away from it.

He managed to gather a little bit of air, and poofed it at the snake. It was a pretty useless attack. This kid really didn't know how to fight at all. The simulation ended pretty much the same way it started. Quickly, and pathetically.

Well he had plenty of room for improvement.

"Illium Moore," Goliath called out the next kid.

He vanished from his seat, and appeared in the middle of the path before Jason could even get out of there. I didn't see him move so it had to be a teleportation ability. Showing off like that had probably cost him. He wouldn't last long once he did that a few more times. Back to the red panther creature.

I thought as the red panther slowly formed out of the ground. The panther moved as soon as it was fully formed. Illium moved over so there was a tree behind him as the panther got ready to jump like it normally did when attacking. The panther jumped, and Illium teleported to the other side of the path in front of another tree as the panther slammed into the tree he'd been standing in front of just a second before. The panther growled, and turned around to face him again before jumping only to slam into a tree again as Illium teleported away again.

He was sweating pretty profusely by now. Just like I thought to begin with. He could only teleport so many times before he was exhausted. This fight wasn't going to last much longer. He managed to teleport two more times before he collapsed, and the simulation ended.

"Nix," Goliath yelled my name, "Go help him."

I did as I was told. Rushing down to help my fellow exhausted student. I pulled him up to his feet, and used my body to brace him up on his feet. I helped him walk slowly to the ladder. I helped him get up the rungs of the ladder slowly, and got him up over the railing.

He managed to flop into a seat on his own. I climbed out, and went over to sit off by myself once again. I was getting to the point that I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open. I yawned slowly as I stretched in my seat.

"Veronica Nester," Goliath got the monkey to start forming on the path.

Veronica practically ran down into the arena. She was bouncing in place as the monkey started moving. It rushed for the trees quickly. Veronica clicked her sparker, and scarlet flames lit up around her. Her flames flared out quickly as she ignited the entire arena into an instant forest fire.

Oh great. My favorite ability. I leaned back in my seat as the heat in the air assaulted all of our senses. I didn't like pyrokenetic's. It was probably Conrad's fault that I didn't like the ability.

A quiet hiss made it's way through my teeth as the flames faded down to nothing. Veronica was bouncing in the middle of the burnt out scenery as the flames went away completely. All or nothing. She didn't have good control of her flames so she was like a bomb waiting to go off. I narrowed my eyes at her.

I didn't like her ability, but she herself was pretty much innocent. I didn't have a good reason not to like her so it made me feel almost guilty when I got angry at her flames. I just stared at the ceiling. Trying to avoid eye contact with Veronica. I didn't want her to realize that I was angry at her for no good reason.

I kept my eyes on the ceiling as she walked back to her seat.

"Heather Orian," Goliath called.

Heather stood up, and gloomily walked her way into the arena. I'd seen goth girls before, but this one. She was extra dark. Her uniform looked way too bright on her dark gloomy frame. She stood in the middle slightly hunched over as the scenery finished repairing itself.

A monkey creature started forming in front of her slowly. It waited about thirty seconds before it started moving, and the instant it did. Goth girl closed her eyes, and there was a bright flash of light. Blinding even me for a second. My vision came back quickly.

So while the others were still rubbing they're eyes only Goliath, and I actually saw how she focused the light into a single beam. Burning a hole right through the middle of the monkey. C type abilities were nuts. A type were poor for direct combat, but were basically a necessity. Telepaths, Technopaths, Teleportation, and others similar to them were all A type abilities.

B type abilities usually consisted of mid range, and elemental abilities. Pyrokenesis, Water manipulation, Air manipulation, and similar abilities were the B types. C type abilities were for the abilities that had no real classification. If it was the weirdest ability you'd ever heard of it was probably a C type. D type abilities were much easier to classify.

They were all strength enhancement type abilities. They usually didn't alter the ability holders appearance in any way. Although gigantification was one of the abilities in the D category that barely fit. When the ability first appeared there was a big debate on whether the ability was C or D class. It ended up falling into D class since all the ability did was make the holder larger.
