Chereads / The Archaic Dragon Mage / Chapter 20 - Simulated

Chapter 20 - Simulated

20/200 xp until level 4.

A smile spread across my face slowly as the thrill sank into me. Drawing out a predatory side to myself I'd been trying to keep down, but here. Here I could let loose a little. If I let loose this predatory side of myself I'd be kicking the ass of everyone that bothered me even a little. I started to let out some of my pent up rage as well.

My movements steadied as my focused honed completely in on the hunt. My rage drove me to hit harder, and faster. I knocked out three more quickly.

35/200 xp until level 4.

My rage honed hunt drove me forward. Three more fell quickly. I kind of wished I could let loose completely. That still wasn't an option here. I hadn't realized it, but the longer I fought the more I moved like an animal in human form.

The last five fell almost too quickly.

60/200 xp until level 4.

"Simulation complete," the computer spoke.

The forest started melting back into grey floor. That ended too quick. I straightened cracking my back, and smiled at Goliath as I stuffed what rage I had left back down.

"Can I do that again?" I felt that wry predatory smile trying to creep back onto my face.

"Maybe I should up the difficulty," Goliath looked at me carefully.

My stomach growled.

"Maybe later," I felt my face fall as I climbed up the ladder out of the grey field, "I need to get something to eat right quick."

"They still making bets on how much you can stuff down," Goliath chuckled.

"I don't really care," I yawned, "I just wanted to see what your club was like."

"You came to join my club," Goliath chuckled, "My club usually gets the rejects. I've never had anyone actually want to just join my club before. Apparently my curriculum is a bit to much for most kids."

"Sign me up," I smiled, "I'm going to get something to eat."

"Wait," Goliath stopped me from walking away, "You're sure you want to join my club."

"Yeah," I started walking towards the door slowly, "Do you want me to come back after I get something to eat? Cause I'm really tired."

"No," Goliath smiled slowly, "You can come back tomorrow. I'll finish the application for you."

"I'll come every day as long as I get to hunt some more," I looked at him over my shoulder before leaving.

That predatory smile making it onto my face despite me trying to stop it. I dropped the smile as I left. I didn't want anything getting between me, and lunch right now.

Goliath watched young Wyatt leave. That boy interested him even more now that he'd seen him complete the simulation. It was at the easiest setting where one good strike could kill the beasts, and there were only one type of beast, but he'd been able to complete the simulation in three minutes. Most students needed at least two or three strikes to kill each beast, but Wyatt had hit them hard. Once was all it took, and his movements.

The more he fought on the simulation the more his movements had gotten a bit odd. Towards the end he was moving more like a big cat hunting prey in human form. Goliath's interest in the boy was peaked now that he'd seen him fight multiple opponents. He looked at the boys file. A class F?

The boy was quite strong for a class F. Goliath kept reading. Level two with potential in marksmanship the file read. He'd have to see how the boy did with a gun in his hand. His club was all about applying combat skills to combat situations.

The fact that he had been able to complete the simulation on his own with no weapons still made Goliath think. Students could usually beat the simulation was they've been at the school for six months, but they were barely two weeks in, and none of the students were in any pure combat classes.

I stuffed down a decent meal in the cafeteria before heading back to the room.

65/200 xp until level 4.

That whole thing was a nice xp boost. If I did that every weekend I could get some leveling up done. It didn't feel like enough though. I wanted to hunt using my real body. I needed to.

I listened for that mental tug for a second, and started following it towards Ethan slowly. If Ethan was in a club I didn't want to interrupt. He needed to impress to get in after all. I was careful not to draw any unwanted attention. I didn't see Conrad or Luke anywhere.

I didn't see that water guy either. I really needed to find out that dudes name because calling him that water guy was getting super annoying. I kept moving. Following that mental tug while keeping an eye out for trouble. There was a part of me that wanted to go hunting again, and another part that made me want to go back to bed.

I spotted Ethan, and smiled. He'd wanted to test out our connection through VR. I doubted the VR system could replicate something like that, but it was worth a shot.

"Did you find a club?" I called out to Ethan as I picked up the pace.

Ethan looked at me. His expression brightened a little as I came towards him.

"Yeah," Ethan nodded slowly, "I found a club."

"What about testing that thing?" I didn't want to say bond since that might give away something.

Ethan looked confused.

"That tracking device I made," I lied on the spot.

Ethan would probably be able to put it together. Realization crossed his face briefly.

"We can try scanning it into the VR pods here at school," Ethan had an easier time talking to me than anyone else, "I've used them a couple times after classes so I know where to go."

I followed Ethan to the main class building, and into the elevator at the far end. Ethan pressed the button to go down a floor. We rode the elevator down quietly. I didn't know about Ethan, but I was excited. If this thing could scan in all my abilities than I would be able to practice as myself without worrying about getting caught.

My biggest problem with the VR pod would be building up the muscles in the real world.
