Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1

New life, new school, new me and everything will be okay. That was what I was thinking on my way to school. When I arrived I saw that it was still early so I decided to go to the park nearby just to get in a better mood. I sat on a swing looking at the dogs that were sleeping under the trees perhaps to avoid the sunlight during the day and I thought that it would be wonderful if I had one. At least I wouldn't feel lonely in my empty and cold house.

I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn't realize how the time passed until I turned my attention to my watch. I was late. My first day at my new school and I was already late. I ran towards the building before they close the gates. After that I slowed down my pace because I didn't want to catch anybody's attention. I opened the door of the biology classroom and got in while the teacher was showing something on the whiteboard to the rest of the class.

"And you must be Ms. Clark. May I ask why you were late in your first day here?" the teacher said looking at me.

"I'm sorry sir. I couldn't find the classroom." I mumbled.

"Good but be careful not to happen again, at least not at my lesson."

I sat next to a boy and I tried to concentrate because I didn't want to screw it up again. After a while I noticed that he was looking at me. I did my best to ignore him but he was really annoying.

"What do you want?" I asked as calmly as I could.

"Nothing, I was just wondering why you couldn't think of a better excuse."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you weren't late because you couldn't find the classroom. Am I right?"

"But how..."

"I saw you when you were going to the park. By the way, what were you doing there so early in the morning?"

"Nothing special, I just wanted to clear up my mind."

"I see... Never mind, I am Kevin."

"Sara, nice to meet you!" I responded ironically.

"Yeah, nice to meet you too!"

"Now that we are done with all these formalities I want to ask you something."

"Go ahead."

"What's the name of the biology teacher?"

He looked at me a little surprised as if the question was weird but at least he answered.

"Mr. Walker, but don't you already know that? And why do you ask?"

"Just because he is boring and I'm planning not to attend his lessons at least for the rest of the year." I said trying to hold my laughter.

"You must be crazy! He is boring for sure but he is one of the strictest teachers of our school and if you don't attend his lessons you will fail the class no matter what you'll score at the exams."

"Then I guess that I'll have to survive through all this boredom."

"Don't be a crybaby. "

"I'm not though."

Kevin was about to say something but then the teacher cut him off:

"Am I that boring to you guys?"

"Actually yes you are!" I answered smiling while looking at his eyes.

Kevin was trying hopelessly to stop me and make me apologise but without any results.

"Both of you at the principal. Now!"

"Fine!" I yelled at him.

On our way to the principal's office, Kevin was yelling at me and telling me that all of this is my fault. But I didn't give a damn about what he was saying so I just let him talking to himself.

"Can you just shut up for a minute?" I cut him off suddenly and it was obvious that he didn't expect it. " I'm sorry. I know that it's my fault we are in this situation but you don't have to remind me every five seconds about that." I added.

"Hold on! It's your fault that we are here but you keep..."

"I SAID I'M SORRY! WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT?" I said angrily.

Then he looked at me with no expression on his face and when I least expected it he burst into a loud laughter.

"WHAT NOW?" I asked both confused and angry.

"I have to admit it, you have an attitude girl!"

"Oh, thanks!"

"You must see my older brother, Ryan. He is just like you and I'm sure you'll like him."

"I don't think so. If he is like me we won't be able to keep a normal conversation like normal people do."

Then the door opened and the principal called us in.

"Mr Adams we are..." I said but he cut me off.

"Let's get straight to the point. I don't care why it happened and that you are sorry. I'm just letting you know that there won't be any punishment just because I'm in a good mood. Oh, and also be aware that I don't want you to cause any further problems." the principal said and we went out.

The rest of the day passed without any other surprises. I went home, made myself something to eat and then sat to do my homework. Everything was pretty easy except our history assignment. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't make a proper presentation about the Revolutionary War. So I decided to call Kevin.

"Hi Kevin! It's Sara."

"Oh, hi! How are you?"

"Good, what about you?"

"Let's say I'm fine."

"Ummm... Can you help me with the history assignment?"

"Sure! Wanna come over?"

"Yeah, why not? Oh wait! I don't know where you live..."

"Do you remember the park you went today?"

"Yes..."

"I live next to it."

"Ok, I'll be there in 10 minutes."

I got dressed, did some sort of makeup and went out. He didn't live that far so I reached his house pretty quickly. There wasn't any bell so I knocked on the door. I had been waiting for a while when the door opened but the person in front of me wasn't Kevin. I have to admit that I thought he was quite hot and handsome when I first saw him. His beautiful green eyes and dark hair matched perfectly with his caramel skin tone. And his jawline, oh that jawline. I realized that I had been staring for a while so I decided to finally start talking.

"You must be Ryan." I said

"Yes. And you are..."

"I'm Sara, I came to see Kevin."

"Come in then. Kevin you have a guest!"

"I'm coming!" I heard him from upstairs.

"So you must be his girlfriend."

"No, I'm just a friend."

"Come on! Kevin doesn't have that beautiful friends. I would've noticed."

"Shut up, Mr. I know everything!" I said angrily

"Calm down Ms. Bad temper! I didn't say anything!"

"I see that I don't have to introduce you to each other and please Ryan shut up! Sara let's go upstairs." Kevin said just in time.

"Ok." I answered.

"And then you claim you're not his girlfriend!"

"Shut the fuck up Ryan! It's just a history assignment!" he yelled at him.

After we finished with the history assignment we sat and talked for a while.

"So, did you like my brother?"

"You can't be serious..."

"I guess no then."

"Of course not! Oh, I'm sorry. He's your brother after all."

"Never mind."

"How didn't I see him at school?"

"He is going to college, second year. That's why."

"So he's 20 years old." I said under my nose.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing, nothing. Um...Where are your parents? I didn't see them."

"They are at the hospital, night shift. Yours?"

"Mines are on something like second honeymoon. Funny isn't it?"

Fantastic! There's the first lie. Let's the party begin!

"Yes! I guess they're in love like teenagers!" he said laughingly.

"Probably. Well, I think it's time to go now. I'm really tired."

"Ok. I'll come downstairs with you."

"As you wish."

We went downstairs and fortunately Ryan wasn't there.

"See you tomorrow." Kevin said.

"Goodnight!"

"Goodnight!"
