Craziness Overload By: Acenth Bowmen
'Perfection, happiness and success is what every Bowmen has to achieve.' Those were the words that molded my life. If I'm not perfect I'm nothing, so to win their hearts I put on a façade. Happiness: they say true happiness is success. But for me true happiness is love. Apart from the random flings, one night stands and hook-ups, everyone wants a committed relationship.
A relationship where they can sincerely love someone and be loved back. Being in love sounds so magical and enchanting like something out of a fairytale. But what if its not all that pretty, what if its scary, what if it drives you insane? What if it's like craziness overload?
"Acey-Poo", the door to my office slams open as my worst nightmare saunters in, hands on her hips and clad in the most revealing outfit of the decade. "Melissa please knock next time", I reply monotonously lowering my gaze to the pile of papers on my desk.
"Acey-Poo I missed you", she throws her arms around my neck pulling her red lips into a smug, self-centered grin. Her white Chanel top clung onto her body like a second skin and left absolutely nothing to imagine. Her Gucci shorts were way too skimpy and who the hell wears seven inch heels at the age of sixteen?
"I got our entire day scheduled to perfection. First we'll go have lunch at some fancy restaurant dad made reservations at, then we'll hit the mall. My wardrobe is so last season. Then we can go to this other fancy restaurant dad made reservations at for supper and...ooh, I nearly forgot. Daddy booked the entire cinema, so we can go and watch a movie. Chick-flicks rock. I absolutely cannot stand horror. Too many spirits", she rants.
"You can't stand horror and I can't stand you. Look I don't need a fake Barbie wannabee trailing after me like a lost puppy, and if you're done then please get out", I state defiantly. She is the definition of desperation. Even Max has higher standards then her seven inch heels and that really says something.
"I'm no wannabee, I'm Melissa Dupont and I have NEVER been spoken to so inconsequentially before. Do not discredit the Dupont name", she airily throws her head in the air crossing her arms over her chest.
"Melissa Dupont if you don't get out of my office in the next five seconds I'm calling your sister", her shoulders tense as she flashes me a look of pure disgust never really expecting me to stoop so low. Melissa and he sister were never really on good terms, always at constant war with one another competing to become the next heiress to their family's company. I got tangled up in their struggle to become the heiress because I was labeled as the 'destiny changer'. Of course that meant having two Malibu Barbie wannabees trailing after me. When Melissa's sister discovered that Mel and I were sorta close. Melissa ended up with fifteen bloody scratches all over her face, talk about animalistic.
"Ugh...Whatever", she sighs defeatedly, hurriedly walking out and slamming the door behind her.
"I wonder who sent her in?" Felix whispers crawling out of his hiding place.
"The demon king himself." Translation: My dad. I pinch the bridge of my nose in annoyance. My dad is hell bent on expanding the company to different countries and he knows that the Dupont's are a medium to achieving this. And that is also the part where I come in and unwillingly become the sacrificial lamb by getting engaged to either Mel or her sister.
"I'll go check up on mom and you should go see dad. After the harsh words she's been fed I hope she isn't attempting another suicide", Felix suggests and I nod sending him a small smile as I exit the office.
Sometimes it was great having a younger sibling, despite our different personalities Felix and I got along just right. We weren't fighting or reconciling all the time like most siblings, take the Dupont sisters for example. He is the most precious thing I have after my mother and Mace.
I come to an abrupt halt outside the extremely familiar door giving myself a quick pep talk about keeping my cool and emotions in check. I knock then swing the door open as soon a I'm given permission to enter "stop sending Melissa inside my office, she's annoying."
My father blankly stares at me snapping his book shut, his blue eyes bare into mine not looking the least bit amused. "And why shouldn't I?"
"Because..." I pause rubbing the nape of my neck. What should I say? I clearly was not expecting to be badgered with such a question. "Well...I have someone I like", I lie.
He arches his brow then slightly tilts his head "is she the heiress to a company? Or does she have powerful connections?" Not this again. Everything I did had to benefit the company. According to dad 'Marriage is also a profitable business.'
"Just as I thought, look its either Mel or her sister or its...", he pulled out an orange envelope from the filling cabinet adjacent to his table and slides it towards me.
"She's not clingy but feisty and fiery. An heiress to a large company with powerful connections and Max ex-girlfriend. Her name is Evangeline Summers."
