Chapter 22 - Chapter 21

He did not speak as I expected. He left the office and left me with a scrambled brain. The next week was filled was plans and a party, as usual.

The supreme beta was coronated and soon I was standing by Tally's hospital bed. The evening had obviously taken it out of her and she fainted in front of the pack higher ups.

Dr. Bergens had told her to stay away from stress which was obviously ironic to everyone. Her life had gone from easygoing monotony to chaos and drama.

For me that was easy to deal with. If my life became monotonous I would constantly be on edge waiting for the bottom to fall out, because let's be honest, it always did.

When Bergens asked me to follow him outside I held my breath. I knew I was about to hear bad news. Something else I would have to handle with grace and dignity when all of me was screaming to go to war and force the issue into submission.

"My lady," he began as he looked at his tablet. Antiseptic assaulted my nose and made me feel sick to my stomach. "You are pregnant my lady."

I could not believe what he was saying. "Come again?"

"You are pregnant," he locked eyes with me. "When we took your blood as a familial sample to compare it against Tally's fetus, we noticed high HGH in your system and ran a pregnancy screen against your sample."

I put my hand on my stomach. "Ummm thank you for the information."

"We shall keep this as quiet as possible," he said helpfully.

"Thank you," was all I could say.

I had no idea how I would tell Arthur. I was sure he would be pleased but then would he lose interest in me now that he had sired his heir? Would I be cast aside now?

Emory left the hospital room and I went back to sit with my sister.

It was silent. I was silent. She could see I was torn up about something but she did not press.

"May I ask you something personal?" I asked as I sat next to her.

She sighed. "Go ahead."

"You were chained up for two days?" I asked and she nodded. "Why didn't you just come home when he untied you?"

"He finished with me on the second night after he had me moved to his bed," she remembered. "He undid my bounds and rolled over and fell asleep. There was a weird feeling that happened when he turned from me. Before I knew what I was doing I was curling up to him as I had done when I was a child. My wolf demanded to be warmed by him. He turned to face me and held me in his large arms and all I could think was to be on my back under him. He heard what I was thinking and crawled back on top of me and did everything my body wanted him to do. Harry was a kind and gentle lover and I had welcomed him in my bed but… with Emory I felt as if I was always meant to be under him giving him his release." She rubbed her arms as goose bumps had formed. "I don't agree with how he took me the first times. Part of me will always hate him for it. That's why I don't think I could ever be his wife or true mate."

"But you stayed with him for the rest of the week?" I asked trying to understand.

"It was intoxicating being with him. I couldn't get enough. I probably would never have gone home or left him, if I had not been attacked by his half brother."

"That's how you got the bruises?" I realized aloud.

"His brother came in when Emory had left to speak to his advisors. He tried to rape me but thankfully Emory had come in and killed him."

I closed my eyes. "I'm so sorry that happened to you."

"No worst than what you experienced," she pointed out.

I opened my eyes. "But I was made in fire, you were meant for a softer life. It's always been that way. We never understood why but now things make more sense."

"How is it that drunk gave birth to the thunder heart and an omega?" She asked with a furrowed brow.

I shrugged. "Diana is an anomaly."

"Diana is the Roman name for Artemis," Tally said casually.

It struck something in me and pieces of the puzzle began to come together for me.
