It was 2 am and for about the hundredth time Jessica had cleared the epistle she had typed out to send to Jack and it was this point she got a signal that he was typing too. Jessica freaked waiting and waiting till she fell asleep but the message was only existent in her dreams. Jack on the other end was pissed at himself; he thought he could act all manly till Jessica apologized, but he still couldn't get that kiss out of his head. He wanted to savour her soft lips once again then whisper sweet mornings into her ear and watch her blush. He was in awe of her simplicity and rawness, he wanted to fill pages of her diary effortlessly night after night.
Jessica woke up grumpy, the short night was part of it but the text she never got played an even bigger role. She left her dorm room determined to talk to Jack that day probably while they were switching between lectures, but he never showed up. The long day was over and Jessica decided to walk back to her dorm probably giving her enough time to clear her head. "Jessica", came a deep voice, she ignored shaking her head at the thought of hearing Jack's voice in her head, she kept on walking.
" Jessica, am I a joke to you?", she turned swiftly to see Jack leaning on a car and staring daggers at her.
"Uhmm... I didn't... Uhh, you... ", she tried but had no words.
" Get in", he said turning to the driver's side. Her legs were stuck, she was confused as to why he was telling her to get into his car. He repeated sternly, "get in, today can't be the day you get dumb".
She scoffed and walked to the car, sitting down she huffed out, "I'm not dumb just..."
"...surprised", he finished for her.
" Well yeah, I looked for you in all our lectures but you disappeared," she told him
"I wasn't in any", he responded casually
" I'm sorry, I asked", she said rolling her eyes. "On the contrary, it shows you missed and that makes me awesome". Jessica gritted her teeth at his cockiness. Then they settled into silence- it was quiet but not in the least bit awkward. All of Jessica's nerves had dissolved, and she had hope that something good with a lot of glitters would happen. Jack just stared ahead when all he wanted to do was stare at Jessica, he wanted to caress this delicate pouting cutie beside him; then he groaned at his thoughts and how distant they felt from reality.
Jessica asked, problem?"
"Nah, my shoulders just feel a bit stiff", came the gruff reply.
" Okay", she said.
Finally, they arrived at the park and Jack walked away leaving Jessica to jog for a bit just to catch up to his pace.
"Did you bring me out here to stress me?"
The only reply she got was the rustling of leaves.
"Uhmm answer me, am I here to be ignored?"
More silence; reaching a log under an oak tree he sat down. Jessica stopped in her tracks and just watched him, hissing she turned around to leave, after a few steps he called out to her, "just come sit, stop being so dramatic".
Jessica froze, then turned abruptly she screeched all the while stomping towards him, I am not being dramatic, you you..."
"You what?", he chuckled
" Jess just look around, people would disagree with your protest display, so come sit and let's talk about us. Calming down Jessica sat beside him and said: "there's no us, there's only a situation."
Jack cringed at her words, "I know, I'm just... Look I'm not good with words but all I am saying right here and now is I like you. It's not some Cinderella type of shit, just on the path to something, so I'll like to be the only to kiss you and take your tantrums and to make you laugh.
It just comes to the story where I'll be your boyfriend and you'll be my girlfriend. So say yes, let's kiss and make up, then you go right in your diary, and we're all happy. Jessica looked at him like he'd grown an extra head, she was stunned and Jack looked at her question she burst into laughter, Jack felt all shades of stupid and Jessica was pissed
"listen here I was stuck on some guilts trip thinking, I may have hurt your feelings but right now you are worse than an asshole like seriously. For one that's a trashy way to ask me out, then secondly respect the diary, if you want to even stay a friend. Don't interrupt my speech and I need you to me to my dorm right now!" With that, she began walking to the car with Jack following behind. As soon as he got into the car he pulled her and kissed her deeply. Like he'd never let go and after a moment of hesitation, Jessica let go and let the kiss awaken the fire within her. It made her feel alive, and she didn't want it to end. But it did and after Jack adjusted his shirt and said without looking at her, he said "I'll be by your dorm in the morning to drive my girlfriend to her lectures, you can use this night to think about it. Jessica was still basking in the euphoria of the kiss, hence she was mute.
Jack stopped in front of the dorm, went to open the door and made an absolute spectacle of kissing Jessica, and she let him when he let her go, she posted, and he chuckled.
" If you open the door tomorrow morning, you'd get more.
Jessica was definitely on cloud nine, she got to her room and just smiled at everything then the panic set in she was someone's girlfriend and it was Jack. She didn't even know his last name, had she been tricked? Was he a playboy or a serial killer? Did she love him? The questions kept raging war in her head.
Jessica took deep breaths and went to take a cold shower as a wake-up call. She turned off the light and let the moon warm her room in its silvery glow. She moved to sit by the window staring at the stars and just let her insecurherfade. For a brief moment, Jack felt perfect, she focused on the beautiful night and the chattering of nightwalkers. She felt far from the girl who had anything to hide or hide from. Then she flipped the switch letting it all come back in with resolve to make sure Jack or insecurities didn't steal her night. She told herself she'd talk to him and tell him she needed time to get to know him. Just then her phone rang signalling a call. The caller was Jack, and he divided to haunt her reality just like he plagued her thoughts.
"Hello beautiful, thinking about me?" And at that moment every other thing seemed unimportant. She was curious to know what exactly he would say and it was this curiosity that let her take a chance on fate.
