Chapter 19 - Chapter 18: One Condition

"So, you want me to dig up info on where this famous guy's company is because you think he's holding your roommate hostage, correct?" Shigeru said, to which I nodded in reply.

Shigeru's expression turned into a solemn one, contemplating his options and probably the risks as well.

"I will help you on one condition..." Shigeru started, then pointed his index finger directly at Kaito, "Kai has to go out with me on a date."

I lost my train of thought completely in 0.2 seconds.

"Eh? A date?" I asked, caught off-guard by this strange deal he was proposing.

"No! No, no, no, no, no! No way! I refuse! I am not going out with you!" Kaito exclaimed, getting off the couch and heading for the door.

Shigeru blocked Kaito's exit with his arm.

"Shouldn't you wait till shrimpy says something, I mean, you did say you'd help him right? What's so bad about one little date with me in exchange for his roommate?" Shigeru asked, a smug expression plastering his face as he leaned in closer to Kaito.

"I. Am. Not. Going. Out. With. You." Kaito growled through clenched teeth, pink dusting his cheeks as he met Shigeru's gaze head-on.

I, being the person in the background, thought it best to break the ice. Also, considering that Kaito was probably lonely and going to be single forever, decided a date was exactly what he needed.

"He'll do it. Here's my phone number, call me if you need anything or have info." I said, walking towards the two by the doorway and handing Shigeru my business card.

"It's a pleasure doing business with you, Miyazaki-San. I'll give you a call later." Shigeru replied, taking the card and turning back to Kaito, "I'll see you on Saturday at our favorite cafe, 12:30, don't be late~"

Shigeru unblocked the door to Kaito's relief, but it was obvious he didn't really want Kaito to leave just yet. Kaito, however, didn't seem to notice because he was too busy running out the door at full speed.

"He won't be late, trust me." I said, passing him on the way out. I waved and followed Kaito to the car.

I have to admit, Kaito's face was certainly a sight to behold. His nose was scrunched up, brows furrowed, a wide frown tugged on the corners of his mouth, and his face was as red as a beet. Clearly, Kaito was embarrassed.

"I cannot believe you right now, you totally sold me out!" He said, watching me climb into the passenger's seat.

"Anything for my roommate, I owe him my life." I replied, snapping the seatbelt into the buckle.

"Tch, you sound like some lovesick puppy."

My fist collided with his arm hard enough to leave a bruise, Kaito yelped in pain.

"Okay, okay, I take it back! Just don't hit me again." Kaito pleaded, holding his hands up in surrender. I clicked my tongue and looked out the window as we pulled out of the parking lot.

I had been thinking about it more and more recently, to the point where I'd constantly need a distraction. I hated the thought of him being there, chained up like a dog. It sickened me. Why did they have to do this to him over an accident? Did they even let him explain himself before they kidnapped him?

I shook the thought from my head, if I was going to get him back I'd need a clear mind.

"You alright, sunshine?" Kaito asked, glancing at me.

"Just because my name means light doesn't mean you can call me sunshine, Kaito." I replied, dodging the question.

"You're thinking about him, aren't you?" He asked, I nodded, "Thought so, you had a solemn look on your face but I could see the malice underneath it. Just how great is this guy, anyway?"

"Let's just say he's more than I deserve and leave it at that." I said, leaning against the car window.

An awkward silence passed between us, leaving a chill in the air. Don't get me wrong, I like silence, just... not this kind of silence where you get the feeling something has been left unsaid.

"So, what's your deal with Shigeru? You act weirdly around him, do you have feelings for him or something?" I asked, Kaito going into a coughing fit beside me.

"What?! O-of course not! I don-" I thought it'd be fun to bully him a little, so I interrupted him.

"Ah, so you HAVE fallen for him, I knew it. You two make a great couple by the way." I teased, snickering at the last part.

"I am NOT in love with Kenta! So stop... doing that, got it?" Kaito said, turning his red face down.

His face is flushed, he's sweating nervously, and he keeps denying having any romantic interest in Shigeru, there's no doubt he's got the hots for him. Does he just not realize it yet? No, if he did then he wouldn't be embarrassed by it. Does he know he's in love with him and purposely refuse it despite his feelings? Why would he be inclined to do that?

I exhaled deeply and slumped against the car door.

This is why I suck at romance and physical interaction with other humans, my introverted-ness is getting the better of me.
