'Closest enemy is 700 meters to the southeast. Lone pachycephalosaurus that looks to have his guard down.'
Pachycephalosaurus were large, bipedal lizards who were herbivores but very dangerous. They were tall beasts that towered over most.
Their most distinguishing feature was their head. More specifically their large and powerful skull roofs seemed as if they would pierce through the skin on their heads at any moment.
These powerful skulls could crush boulders or other beasts with a simple headbutt or charge.
Mordred nodded at Nux's words before lifting his rifle and aiming at the chest of the dinosaur in question. Out of all the plain dwelling dinos, this one had the weakest defense besides its hard head.
He did not hesitate to open fire the moment he had his target set. While he was too confident in shooting high-speed raptors, he could easily take out this giant creature while it stood still.
The sound of the gunshot echoed across the entire plains as it flew toward the pachycephalosaurus chest. But when it struck the beast's scales, it was only able to penetrate about half an inch before the bullet stopped, not able to pierce through the rest of its thick muscles.
The dinosaur let out a roar of pain before looking in Mordred's direction and running over in an angry charge. Mordred let out a curse before starting to climb the closest tree to escape from the pachycephalosaurus.
'4 other ankylosauruses seem to be charging over while both the other types seem to be surrounding us. It seems like your research was correct. The plain dwellers are very smart. I don't see the leader though.'
This was why the plain dwelling dinosaurs had to be dealt with first. No matter who Mordred attacked, be it them or one of the other packs of dinosaurs, if Spike detected anything amiss, he would organize all the beasts under his command to scout before launching an assault.
Mordred had expected as much but could not reply to Nyx. The telepathy was only one way plus he had to focus on the 5-meter tall monster that was running toward him.
Mordred emptied two magazines on the charging pachycephalosaurus but it did not seem to be doing much damage, even when he switched to the AP (armor-piercing) rounds.
'I don't think that is working.'
The pachycephalosaurus's eyes were leaking out red energy showing that is had already entered into it [Rampage]. When it got within 50 meters, it's skull began to glow while its body was surrounded by lightning.
In a literal blink of Mordred's eyes, the tree Mordred was on and the 3 behind him all began to shake before they started falling over.
"Nyx! Help!"
Nyx's eyes began to glow as she lifted Mordred mid-air. With her high level of the skill, it was almost effortless to lift Mordred. The only downside was that [Telekinesis] could only lift one object or creature at a time so she could only fire an [Sonicbolt] if she wanted to help but it would not be useful against these creatures.
Mordred took the chance to let out a breath of relief and frustration. The MSR was the gun that had the most penetration of all the ones that he currently owned. If it could not penetrate the scale of the weakest creature here, it would be even more useless than useless on the other two.
'Looks like I need to make a new purchase.'
Mordred opened the window and tried to decide what to purchase. He needed something high penetration and that was effective at a distance. That meant that most explosives were out of the question. A few items caught his eyes.

Mordred looked at his options before choosing the GX. While the Vulcan seemed impressive, what he needed was more powerful ammo, not weaker than his sniper rifle.
And as for the RPG, while the basic and alternate ammo types were deadly, they were only useful for taking out a single target before he had to take time to reload.
He could not afford drawing out the battle for too long due to the intelligence of Spike or the vulture nature of the pterodactyls who would want to pick off the tired and weakened winners.
'That means that my best option is the rifle. I can at least get 5 shots off before reloading and the process is much faster.
I can also take out those annoying suicide bombers from a long distance away instead of letting them get close and get the chance to detonate.'
Without any more hesitation, Mordred purchased the GX as well as the extended magazine with 100 shots of standard ammo, 50 AP, 50 API (armor-piercing incendiary), and 50 SLAP (saboted light armor penetrator).
'This should be more than enough to take out the 20 or so plain walkers. Mordred loaded the first magazine with standard .50 ammo before aiming at the pachycephalosaurus who started it all.
The bullet pierced through the chest of the creature but failed to exit through the back. The creature screamed in pain as it was the first time it had been injured so deeply.
'But it's better that way. That means it probably broke off and is causing at least a small amount of damage in there.'
Mordred fired a second shot before firing a third. The recoil not even affecting him much due to his body's strength. The creature fell after the third shot.
Mordred did not celebrate but instead aimed at the 4 suicide bombers that were on their way over to him. The first bullet penetrated one of their heads but did not do significant damage to it. The second shot did not fair much better.
'Ok. So now we can try out those AP rounds.'
Mordred reloaded the gun before opening fire on the creatures once again. These shots caused them to slow down and try to dodge but they had still failed to put the creatures down.
Their armor was very tough, especially around the head. Still, it bought him time to reload and open fire on them before they got into their range. He had about 500 meters before they were in the suicide explosive range.
'Fine! Now you guys get the SLAP rounds.'
