Chereads / The Newfound Prince of Darkness / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Training

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Training

It had been ten weeks since Jarod had started training with Katlyn. He had grown stronger, able to wield the hundred-pound wooden sword with general ease now. Morina had said that his physical strength would increase dramatically without actually showing it, which was a good thing. He could surprise his opponents and be vastly underestimated, though he wasn't sure how he truly felt about fighting people seriously.

Currently, he was dueling, not one, but both of the women. Katlyn and Morina were double-teaming him. He was holding his own for now, but he was pretty sure they weren't using the fullest extent of their power. He dodged a swipe from Katlyn, only to have to jump over a side swing from Morina.

He quickly jumped back a few feet, separating himself from the girls before slamming one hand on the ground, causing ice to erupt as it began spreading across the grass like a spilled glass of water on a table. Katlyn ran forward before jumping and landing on the ice, sliding towards him at incredible speeds.

Jarod mentally cursed at the fact that his plan had backfired. He thought as he quickly connected swords with the raven-haired girl. They were now battling for dominance, pushing their swords together as they used all their strength but he was slowly losing to the girl. Katlyn smirked before swiping his feet from under him, causing his head to hit the ground hard. He laid on the dirt and groaned.

"Jeez, I still need to get used to you doing that to me." He mumbled under his breath as he slowly got up. He heard clapping from behind him. He turned around to see Morina clapping slowly.

"Good show, Jarod. I'm surprised you lasted that long against us, even if we weren't going at you with our full power." Jarod nodded at the compliment.

"What now?" He asked. Morina adopted a thinking expression before grinning.

"I think you're ready!" She exclaimed. Katlyn rose a single eyebrow.

"Are you sure, Master? He's still pretty weak." Morina shrugged.

"The best we can do for him is to give him hands-on experience. He'll get plenty of fights when we go."

"Go where?" He asked, his voice laced with the confusion he was currently feeling. Morina looked at him as if he were dumb.

"Well, we're going to Hell of course!" She yelled. Katlyn actually smiled for the first time since Jarod had known her. Sure, she smirked whenever she would kick his ass, or when she taunted him, but never actually smile.

"Um, why would I go to Hell?" Katlyn deadpanned.

"You're the Prince of Hell idiot. Besides, you get to meet your dad." Jarod brightened up at the prospect. Seeing his excitement, Morina frowned.

"Don't get to excited. Lucifer doesn't get attached to things. So, don't go expecting to have a father-son bond with him, alright?" Jarod's smile dispersed quickly, but he quickly put up a fake one.

"I don't care, as long as I get to see him, I'm fine with that." Katlyn noticed rub the back of his head, a trait that he only showed when he was lying. She had done many secret tests on the boy as they trained.

Flashback

Katlyn was standing in front of a bruised up Jarod, her long black hair was neatly in place, her red eyes seemingly glowing in the dark. Jarod looked at her.

"Why are you staring at me? I know I'm hot and all, but jeez, show a little restraint would ya?" He was then kicked in the jaw.

"As if," Katlyn said in a slightly miffed tone. "So, how do you feel about being a half-demon?" She asked him. Jarod stood up and rubbed the back of his neck and smiled.

"Well, I enjoy having the powers, and the healing factor is nice as well." He said as he closed his eyes in his smile. She nodded but knew he was lying.

Every demon has an ability. Some, like Jarod, have a healing factor, some, like her, could detect lying. Some could have more than one ability, also like Jarod. As far as they knew, he had a healing factor and could make ice with a touch of his hand, but Morina had said all he would have to do was think to do it after he mastered it. Katlyn also had an ability to create fire from her palms, hence the reason why she wore black gloves all the time, not being able to control it.

"Do you miss your old life at all?" Jarod frowned and let his arms drop to his sides.

"Some parts, but all in all, no. Not at all." He said. She didn't detect any lies from the snow haired boy and shrugged before getting back in her battle stance.

"Good. Now, come at me with everything you got." She said in a cocky tone as she proceeded to kick his ass.

Flashback End

"So, how exactly do we get there?" Jarod asked Morina, whose smirk grew wider.

"It's quite simple actually. Just use magic." She said as she started demonstrating to him. "Just gather the magic, or energy if you prefer into your palms, and let that spread across your entire body. Once you do that, you have to imagine the place you want to go to. It helps when you close your eyes, but masters, like Katlyn and myself, can do it in a blink of an eye."

"Um, okay." Jarod focused all of his energy into his palms and watched in amazement his palms began glowing bright neon green and it started spreading across his arms and over his entire body. Jarod looked at Morina. "So, what does Hell look like?" He asked. Morina opened her mouth to speak but quickly closed it as a mischievous smile crossed her face.

"Just think of darkness. You'll get there." Was all she said before both Katlyn and her disappeared. He sighed. He had grown used to them getting him to learn things on his own.

He closed his eyes and imagined pitch black and focused on it. Soon, he felt his reality shift away and then felt the sensation of falling. He opened a single eye and saw that he actually was falling.

He looked down and saw a village that was covered in either ice or snow, he couldn't tell from all the way up there but found out he wouldn't need to wonder for much longer, seeing as the ground was coming closer to him with each passing second

He quickly saw snow on the ground and focused his energy on making it build up towards him. Satisfied, he plunged into the snow, slowing down considerably before he hit the ground. His head popped out of the blanket of snow before he made it part ways with a flick from his hands.

"Hmm, now where am I?" He wondered out loud before a voice spoke up from behind him.

"Well look who we got here?" Said a gruff voice. "Talking to yourself is weird you know." Jarod turned around and saw a big man with purple skin, kinda reminding him of someone from Sesame Street, but way buffer, and way more dangerous looking. He had no hair, revealing a purple scalp and he wore nothing but a bearskin wrapped around his hips, hiding his privates.

"My name is Jarod." The man snorted.

"I don't care who you are, I just care that you trespassing." He said, his eyes held a wicked glint in them as he bared his yellow stained teeth. Jarod put his hands up.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to. I'll leave." The man was suddenly upon him.

"Do you know what the penalty of trespassing is?" He yelled, his voice cracking with unhidden excitement. Jarod slowly started backing up.

"W-what?"

The man pulled out a huge sword, reminding him of a sword a comic book villain or hero would wield before he charged Jarod.

"DEATH!"
