Arms and legs like wooden sticks. The bony structure of the infant's body pressed tightly against the brittle-looking skin. The boyish face was thin, making the chin and cheekbones look like razor-sharp blades, and the slanted eyes were too large for his face. The boy was literally in the bones. So weak that a small wind might well send it flying. A substantially clean gray robe clothed the pitiful-looking cub's body.

In the world of the puppy, nothing good came with being the object of attention, the attention meant you would be beaten, kicked, humiliated or sold. So, finding himself in the limelight, even when his instincts told him he was safe, the puppy's body involuntarily reacted, and he shrunk into a nervous ball with restless cat ears and tail. A cautious little hiss escaped the ball...

Instantly, Askeladd and Sascha got their wits back. They looked at each other in silence for a brief silence.

"There is a bathtub in the bathroom."
