Chapter 98 - CHAPTER 97: Flying

Carrying Beatrice, I flew through the night sky. She was extremely light. I figured that was partially due to my strength but for the most due to her travels.

Tough none of us spoke, I knew that she felt guilty and unworthy of seeing the world from such a splendid point. Afterall, she was the one that had brought me into a potentially dangerous situation.

After a while I theorised that her arms must be hurting right now. so, I landed and let go of her.

She rubbed the sore spots close to her shoulders where I had hold her. But soon realised that this might be offensive and thus immediately stopped.

I did not mind her actions, tough I found it a bit worrying that she would probably hurt herself in order not to offend me.

I looked down upon her, while trying to hide my worries and doubts.

"Do you know how to reach Atlantis?"

I figured that the group would already be there after three years. So, searching for EL Dorado would only be a waste of time. And with Carl being dead, I had no leads to their whereabouts.

It truly annoyed me that that talking pile of shit would be useful but had died before I could benefit from it.

"No, I do not. But I heard from my mother when I was younger, that the coast near the warm sea has ways to find it. I do not know if it is true. But it is our best change."

I smiled and kneeled down so I would no longer tower her.

"Do you think that you can travel for now or do you need to sleep?"

It was already dark, and I knew that humans slept more often than I did. However, I needed her to be awake when we searched for that coast since I had no idea where it was.

"Before you answer you must know that it would be useless if you are too tired. It might even lead us in the wrong direction."

She nodded and answered immediately. "I think that I can go on. I will inform you when I get too tired."

"Good. Then climb on my back."

She seemed a little confused, so I explained it to her.

"If I keep on carrying you on your arms then it might cause permanent damage. And if I hold you in my arms, my scales might rip open your flesh with the slightest movement. Tough I have scales on my back. those are more for defence than for offence. So, the chance of hurting you would be minimal."

She nodded and carefully climbed on my back. it felt weird to have someone sitting in between my wings. But I was certain that it would not cause many problems since I was more than twice as big as her.

This time I did not jump into the air to start off from there. Instead, I carefully lifted myself up so I would not throw her of with any sudden movements.

Once I was high enough, I asked her. "Which direction do we need to go?"

"Do you see that river to the left? I believe that, that is the snake river. We have to follow that one until it splits up."

With this information in mind, I started to follow the river.

Now that I would probably no longer accidentally harm her, I speed up a little. Beatrice noticed and grabbed the spikes on my shoulders more firmly. But it did not seem like she was scared. She believed that I would keep her safe and where would she be safer than there? More so, she was enjoying the view.

This was her first time properly looking at the lands below.

And there were even some fireflies dancing on a soundless rhythm near the river. Making the water look like a second sky.

She was amazed by the countless lights that shifted under us. And when we eventually flew over a town her eyes were pleased even more.

People had decorated their homes with many coloured lanterns in an attempt to drive away the dark night.

Tough it was a lot different than the ones that were used in my original village, it brought back memories from the times when I was still human. I sighed as I recalled what I was forced to leave behind.

After a few hours of flying, I noticed that Beatrice's breathing had became slower. And it did not take me long to realise that she was slowly falling asleep. Therefore, I landed once again. allowing her to sleep after this long night.
