Chapter 34 - CHAPTER 34: You can always talk to me

Inside my room I again sad cured up on the bed.

I was biting my hand in an attempt to distract myself from my murderous desires. The sweet yet metallic taste of warm blood that spread in my mouth helped some wat. But I was nearly equally disgusted by the temporary solution as by what it was trying to prevent.

After a while I calmed down. I removed my hand from my mouth to allow it to start healing.

The wounds weren't that big so it dint take long before it slowly closed. I exhaled with much force. I was sick and tired of randomly wanting to hurt or kill other living things. ("But for how long am I going to be able to suppress it?")

The sound of footsteps filled my ears. I could tell that it was only Yohan since his footsteps where soft due to still being so skinny.

He knocked three times on the door. With a slight hesitation I grabbed the key and walked to the door. I could tell that there were no other humans in the area so I didn't apply magic and slowly unlocked the door.

I tilted my head and looked with a curious expression at Yohan.

"Wat is it?"

I was trying my best to hide my latest mood swing.

He stepped inside and closed the door. Then he turned to look me in the eyes.

"Drop the act and tell me what is going on."

My heart dropped. If it was not for my dark red skin I was sure I could see the blood drain from my face.

"How did y."

"It is not like you to speak in such a demanding tone, so there must be something on your mind."

I bit my lip and my tail nervously swept over the ground.

Yohan raised an eyebrow. "So there really is something. I didn't think demons could worry about things to."

His fragile legs carried him to the bed and he sat down on the soft mattress. "Come sit and tell me what is going on."

I hesitated. I didn't want to tell him about what had been happening. I was afraid that he would get scared of me again and convince the group to leave me.

I looked away from him.

"I… I can't tell you right now. However, it is the reason I want to go to the stone city. Maybe I will tell you when it is all over."

Yohan nodded.

"That's fine, just remember if you want to talk about something, I will always be ready to listen."

I shoot a glance at him. "Thanks, I will be counting on that."

After a while Yohan left again and I passed the time by looking out the window. I had it opened at such a small creak that it was hard to even see that it was opened when seen from outside.

From my position by the window I had a great view over the streets. I saw a woman with small children buying vegetables, bread and other stuff to make dinner with. I also saw a group of monster hunters walking into a shop that sold weapons.

Monster hunters were something like adventurers aside from a few differences. For one they didn't do small quest like the adventurers, they only killed monsters. They also didn't venture out into unknown territory.

Since they only killed monsters their knowledge about them was far greater than a adventurer would ever hope to reach. Most of them were also far stronger, their shier lust for strength often distances them from the rest of humanity. Some townsfolk theorize that they are monsters themselves.

I slightly chuckled. ("If they are seen as monsters, then what am I?")

But I had met some in my village. Therefore I knew that those fantasy's originated from the fact that people with slight mutations, like different eye colour or an abnormal hair or muscle growth were cast out from society and saw no other option than to become monster hunters and travel between villages and city's to earn a living.

What caused these mutations was unknown until this day. However some speculated that it was due to the parents having a incredibly high amount of magic. But it was merely a theory without solid evidence.

Eventually when the sky turned orange and the crowd started to disappear the others came back. We ate the food they brought and talked a little about what we had seen. To my pleasure, no one asked about why I had suddenly ran off, not even Gert.

At the end of the day everyone went to their rooms.
