Chapter 16 - Always a Miles Step Away

A humongous ten-meter in height centipede covered in rusted metal carapace with a small human head. A big stretched grin of insanity and a thousand sharp limbs pierced the earth. It has its gaze upon us

I shielded myself with the deer skull in front of the brat. We are cowered in fear but we removed our goosebumps and negative biochemical on our body to keep a stance and wait for this horrid nightmare action

The beast tilted its head left and right with its terror's face. No noticeable movement. We became stiff as a rock, racked our mind of what it will do next

"It didn't do anything"

"Not yet. Try to hold your breath"

After conserved enough oxygen we removed our breathing capabilities. The beast is still searched for us left and right

Ten minutes have passed. Lifeless like zombie carcasses. Our minds can't keep rejecting our instinct to breathe forever. Followed by a massive headache and oxygen deficiency. We finally inhale some of the oxygen

We took as much air as we can in a short span of the event to nullified our noisy hyperventilated mouth. I moved for an inch due to the mental stress on my body

The beast suddenly rushed its body to grind my shield as I dodged the attack halfway through. It let the brat to moved out of the way completely and reposition for a more safe formation

Later, Its long body finally stopped to grind my shield like a chainsaw and unexpectedly initiated to swirl around trees to trees. The creepy head appeared behind me suddenly as I reinforced my arm and slashed the beast with my bone blade

My blade pierced its face but it doesn't affect any of the beast's behavior. Not until a couple of seconds the human head from the centipede started to screech in an inaudible sound ripple. We removed our sense to hear for a couple of seconds and put all of our unused brain cells to increased our calculation ability to the maximum

To stall time with the most efficiency. I put all of my resilience to block all of the beast's horrid attacks to let the brat safely dodged it. My Eous let me pushed all of my physical limiters with no real harm, for the price of my unbearable ruptured mind.

The giant steel centipede tried to bind me so many times even if it's only ended up in me leaped all of the obvious action. After I took the aggro on myself. The ingenious brat began to formulate a plan

But I can't keep up to calculate her train of thought and commenced to commit a full-blown rush to the beast for no apparent reason. I unconsciously dropped my wrapped thunder scroll

Leap after leap. I followed the beast head like a seeking missile launched from tree to tree. My forced agility can keep up with the centipede but no matter how many times I slashed the centipede head, it didn't affect anything to the course of the battle. A couple of seconds later. The centipede head began to transform into a gruesome plant mouth with a long tongue

I was on the lead to striking the beast, but not until my mind was blacked out and I found myself on the ground with a small hole on my chest. Blood dripped from my mouth like a waterfall, I felt like I wanted to puke so much

I was a fool, why I to was on aggressive so much instead of being defensive. I almost lost my mind until the beast came back to me with no wound on its face

The beast grinned

"Why?"

Where is the brat? Why am I here?

I felt like I was enticed. Allured into madness every time I see its small human head

"I-it can't be"

Calmly, I looked into its sharp numerous limb and began to force sealed all of my blood flows. I was lucky that the hole didn't pierce my heart. Stunned, to saw my foolish self has been tricked by one of the beast ability

Every time I glimpsed on its human head, something struggled to interfere with my brain. It's not been able to fully control my mind but managed to shift my priority from defensive into a blood lust machine

The solution is simple. I closed my eyes and shifted all of my perception priority onto my sense of touch. The wind, the ground, and the coldness of the beast is so noticeable that I've laughed at myself for not be able to notice it sooner

The beast rusted steel carapace does a remarkable job to hide its body temperature but when it became too cold. It became the opposite, especially for a body-micromanaging person like us

I can felt the warmer humanoid figure climbed onto the centipede body near its head. The centipede doesn't notice it so it depended on its eyesight and scrap every other sense available. such a dumb move of evolution, Charles Darwin might question your existence

"We human don't have any strong carapace like your but I do sure have myself to protect my back "

The brat proceeded to drop the thunder scroll into the beast's head. The thunder scroll that I've dropped unconsciously back then on the moment I felt something abrupt changed my mind. Before the fight even started, I calculated a million possibilities, then consciously put a tiny autonomous script on my spinal cord to drop the wrapped thunder scroll on my holster — when something started to invade my mind. Because that is the only massive weaknesses we both had. I tried to do the thunder scroll attack early but I haven't known any of the beast's weakness and strength so I'm afraid that the beast will notice it. Turned out the beast can't even smell or hear and the fact that its steel carapace prevented the beast from sensed anything on its proud protection. But why it can't see us in the first ten minutes?

The scroll let out a massive amount of spark due to every inch of the giant centipede body is a massive electricity conductor. I've finally opened my sense of sight and saw the brat proudly stood on the electrified beast body with glee. Our footwear has some non-conductor properties and I bet she just wanted to flex it on me
