Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 4

"Heather..." I heard him whisper as I read a book in the library.

"Hmm?" I only whispered as I focused my attention on the book I was reading.

"What's that?" he asked as he sat beside me.

"A book..?" I innocently said. I heard him sighed as he place his elbow on the table making him lean close to me. "

"Can't you... move a little?" I demanded him as I lean far from him.

"Hmm. I don't want to. I want us to be this close." he giggled before adjusting to his seat. "You can continue reading now Cinderella..." I rolled my eyes before continuing the book I was reading.

"Do you read books?" I randomly asked him as I finish the book I was reading.

"Hmm...no. Unless it's a playboy's magazine," he chucked. Gosh. That's nonsense.

"Right." I said as stand up, ready to leave. "I have to go now..."

"Wait, what?" he frowned while staring at me. "I waited for you to finish that damn book...and here you are, leaving me here after you finish that goddamn book?"

"What the hell..." I whispered to him. "Can't you just shut your fucking mouth? we're in a freaking library..."

"Woah calm down. you're being feisty now huh?" he teased. What's with his mood swings huh?

"And now we're going to argue about it?" I said a bit annoyed already. I sighed before putting my backpack on, "I'll go home now. I got a lot of things to do on my list Adan.." I saw him pouted as I walk my way out of the library.

As I was nearing the gate... I heard some footsteps following me. I sighed before turning around.

"What is your problem Adan- Meredith?" I thought it was Adan..

"Hi heather," she faked a smile. "So... you're expecting AAdan huh? mmm, I see..."

"What?" I said lowly.

"Still playing the innocent bitch huh?" what the hell?

"We aren't close.." I trailed off.

"Of course! I know that... nobody wants to be close to a 'nobody' like you.." my forehead creased. I'm confused...

"I need to go," I said, because that was the only way I knew to avoid trouble. As I walk my way home... all I did was think about what Meredith told me earlier. I don't know.. but it bothers me big time.

"Hey," I was greeted by him when I went to work.

"You're... early.." I said.

"Are you fine? you look, uh.. absent-minded?" he asked hesitantly. I did nothing but to nod. I walked my way to the stock room to get my apron. I fixed up a bit before going out to do my job.

"Hey.." he said as he walk near me.

"Hmm? you need anything?" I asked him as I fix some things on the cash register.

"You seem distant-" he stopped because someone walked. The sound of the chimes interrupted him.

"Hey, heather." Jayvee greeted.

"Hi. Good evening jayvee." I greeted as I bow down my head a bit as a sign of respect? I guess so...

"I'm here to grab some... snacks" he said shyly as he scratched the back of his neck.

"Yeah, sure. go ahead." I said. He nodded before he disappeared from my sight. Maybe he'll look for something to buy already.

"oS.. what were you saying?" I coldly asked Adan. My heart pounded. He was staring at me... but his eyes were cold and... hurt? I quickly shook away the thought as I withdraw my glance at him.

"You seem distant." he coughed softly before leaning against the counter. "Is there something wrong?" he softly asked. I gave him an assuring smile.

"I'm fine... don't worry about me..." I was distracted by Jayvee approaching the counter. He was holding a basket and it was full of beers. "Will you excuse me," I told Adan. He nodded before leaving the counter to give Jayvee and his beers a space.

"That's a lot..." I said as I scan the beers.

"Yeah...." he answered.

"Have a great night!" I waved my hand to him as he walk out of the door. I was distracted by Adan sitting outside. I quickly approached him while holding coffee. I placed the coffee in front of him as I sat on the chair beside him.

"Thanks.." he said as he sipped on the coffee.

"So... what's bugging you playboy?" I slightly smiled at him. It made me giggle.

"You never fail to amuse me.." he said.

"You never fail to confuse me..." I said as I sip on my coffee. I looked at my phone. at it's 12am. "It's 12am..." I said while staring at my phone.

"And?" he asked with with confusion. I giggled before sipping on my coffee.

"It's December..." I said as I stretch my arm sideways. I saw him nod.

"You celebrate... Christmas?" he asked. I happily nodded as I lean close to him.

"Yeah! why wouldn't you celebrate Christmas?" I said. I bet my eyes were sparkling. "I wonder when will the first snow be...."

"You like snow?" he asked.

"Yep! I love snow!" I giggled like a kid.

"I haven't celebrated Christmas yet..." he said.

"Really?" I asked. Amused and confused at the same time. He laughed and nodded.

"What's with Christmas anyways? it's just a normal day..." I pouted.

"You want to celebrate Christmas?" I asked him.

"Hmm how? stay up till 12 midnight?" he asked.

"Hey I'm not joking." I threatened.

"Fine. How then?" he asked curiously.

"Come celebrate with us!" I said while I saw his eyes twinkle.

"Really?"

"Of course! you know... Christmas is really fun especially when you spend it with someone special. Sadly, I haven't tried celebrating Christmas yet with my real family... because you know... I'm an orphan..." I laughed as I look at my feet. I felt my eyes watered. "So... you're a bit lucky. Even you don't get to spend a lot of time with your family... at least you have one. unlike me..."

"Hey are you sad?" he asked.

"Who wouldn't be.." I whispered. I wiped away the tear as I looked at him. "So what do you say?"

"Okay..."

"Okay, what?" I asked him.

"Okay. I'll be your family and I'll be celebrating Christmas with you." He said with a smile plastered on his face.
