Rome wasn't built in a day, as so they say. When I first heard about that adage, I wasn't really sure what it meant—nor did I think that it has some kind of deeper meaning. I just knew that you really can't build a city in a twenty-four hour time duration, I mean, literally speaking!
But as I grew older, as I got to know more about the world, I finally understood. I was young that time and though even I did already knew what it means, I didn't find the importance of it. I was always the happy-go-lucky type of girl—a naïve one who only knows how to have fun and get impatient on things.
And now, as I stood here in the present, it was finally the time for me to live up to that saying. Not just because I wanted to, but because I needed to.
"You guys didn't really need to come here," I commented when my friends showed up at my doorstep, two days after I filed my leave.
