Valerie walked into her room to find Alan on the floor playing with one of his toy trains.
"Mommy, hi. Have you brought Arlo back?" Alan asked with excitement.
"Not only have I brought Arlo, but someone else." Valerie sat down a bowl of lettuce and tomatoes, and then sat beside it a bowl of raw fish. Valerie put down Arlo and he hopped over to Alan and rubbed his head against him before he hopped over to the bowl of food and started eating.
"Mommy, what's that?" Alan heard a strange noise come from Valerie's basket, almost like a vibration.
"It's a new addition to our family, Alice!" Valerie pulled Alice out of her basket and into midair. Alan gasped and ran over to see the critter.
"We have a cat now too?!" Alan asked as Valerie put down the cat and it patted its claws on her lap.
"You're the best mommy ever!" Alan hugged Valerie and took Alice and Arlo and started playing with them, ironically, Alan wanted to play cat and mouse. He chases both Arlo and Alice around until bedtime.
When bedtime did come, Alan placed Arlo on his bed on Valerie's vanity and cuddled up with the cat.
"Goodnight Alice," Alan whispered, and soon after he was fast asleep.
After 15 minutes, Alice got herself up and made her way out of Valerie's room. Valerie didn't shut the door completely, she never did, and so all Alice had to do was nudge it with her head before the door opened.
She crept her way through the halls, avoiding any and every interaction with any human she came to face.
Soon she was walking down the servant's corners halls. She stopped at one room, she sniffed around the door and pounded it with her tail. A person came to open it.
"Yes?- Oh, what are you doing here?" Mary looked down and saw the cat liking her tail and fluffing it out with her paws.
"Meow" replied Alice as she stood up on all four of her legs.
"Shoo! Shoo! I'll be in horrible trouble if you stay!" Mary beckoned her with her hand, but despite Mary's pleas for Alice to leave, she weaved her way through her legs, into her room, and onto her bed.
"Alright fine, I need someone to talk this over with anyway. It's sad that I have to do it with a cat though." Mary sighed and shut her door. She sat next to Alice and Alice crawled into her lap and balled up.
"It's about Valerie, I mean it's about Malphus. I love him, but he loves Valerie and I know Valerie's just gonna use him. I'm going to become her friend just to get close to Malphus and when Malphus realizes he loves me way more than he ever did Valerie, I'll leave her and have her put out on the streets." Mary said in an almost whisper while patting Alice's head, Alice didn't purr as she did with Valerie though, it made Mary concerned.
"Meow," Alice said and Mary shushed her. Alice jumped down from Mary's lap and pushed her door open with her head and ran as fast as she could down the hall.
"What's that cat's problem? Whatever she probably heard a mouse and went after it." Mary stood and waited at the door for Alice to come back, but after 5 minutes and no sight of Alice, she retreated to her room.
"Cats, so unloyal, so disgusting too, I mean they lick themselves clean. Gross." Mary slammed the door, hoping that her furry companion would come back, but never did.
The next day Valerie woke up to see Alice laying right next to her foot, but she was awake.
"Good morning Alice," Valerie said to the cat.
"Meow" The cat greeted Valerie back.
Valerie got ready for work and Alice always stood close by. Valerie tried to leave the cat in the room with Alan, but she'd just claw the door if Valerie closed it, so Valerie let her tag along.
She went with Valerie to prepare breakfast for the King, luckily for Valerie, that day was hectic in the office so he didn't notice the blur of brown with darker brown following Valerie everywhere.
Valerie shared some of her breakfast with the cat, unaware if it would harm her or not. Just to be safe, she gave her a small piece of the bacon she ate and the cat seemed to eat it just fine.
"You know Alice, the last time I hung out with Mary, she wasn't an exact jerkwad. Everyone deserves a second chance, so why don't I go visit her today?" Valerie asked herself while talking to Alice.
Alice hissed and clawed at the floor, almost pulling up the carpet.
"Alright, alright, I'll go visit the library then, would you like to come?" Alice stopped her hissing and clawing and came to rub her hand against Valerie's leg. It seemed like Alice was trying to keep Valerie from something, that thing couldn't be Mary, she wasn't very hostile towards her at first, maybe Alice just wanted to spend time with her new owner.
Whatever it was, Valerie would happily oblige if she didn't have to pay to get the carpet replaced because of Alice.
