Chapter 27 - The Penguin

"What is my daughter doing?" Oliver Miller asked the staff working on Louisa's floor.

"Sir, she is sleeping," one person out of the group replied to him

"Did she have her food?" He asked them

"Yes Sir, Ms. Flora made sure that young Madam had her dinner," he replied not meeting Oliver's eyes

"Good, I will just go and check her," saying that he walked towards Louisa's room.

He punched his thumb on the scanner and the room's door opened wide. Oliver entered inside and saw Louisa sleeping on her bed with the bedside lamp, which is the only source of light in the room.

Oliver removed his shoes as the sound may disturb his daughter and walked towards her bed quietly.

He saw Flora sleeping on the bed adjacent to the window. The bed he has purchased when he saw how animatedly Louisa use to speak to the stars sitting on a chair. He wanted to make everything comfortable for his daughter, so he purchased her the bed and placed it near the balcony window. As a child, Louisa used to sleep on that bed speaking to the star. She never let anyone lay a finger on the bed even after she grew up

A smile crept on his face when the old memories flashed in his mind. Oliver sat on Louisa's bed without making any noise facing his daughters face

Oliver looked at his daughter who is sleeping peacefully snuggling closer to her to the life-sized penguin-shaped teddy bear. The past memories made the way into his head

---------------

"I want that penguin," Louisa started crying when she saw Penguins walking on the ice when they visited the Water Park

"What will you do with penguin baby? It is bigger than you are. You can't even play with that," Sophia said to young Louisa

"Dad, I want that penguin. If you don't get me one I am not going to speak to you," Louisa said pouting

"No Lou, listen to me. We can't have a penguin at our house. The climate won't be suitable for their living," Oliver explained Louisa

"Water Park has lots of Penguins and it is in our country, then why can't we have one at home?" Louisa questioned them

Both Oliver and Sophia looked at each other when Louisa asked a logical question. They didn't get any idea of how to explain a nine-year-old girl about the difference between Water Park and their house. They had no idea how to explain to the young girl that the Constitution of their country won't allow people to have Penguins as pets at their home at any cost.

"Dad, I don't want anything for my upcoming birthday. Please buy me a Penguin, they look so cute and I want to play with them," Louisa pleaded Oliver

That one cute look from his daughter is enough to melt his heart.

"Sophia, I know that having a Penguin at home is impossible in our country but our daughter is wishing for that. So I am thinking of moving to another country," Oliver said casually

"Have you lost your mind, Oliver? We have our Industries here, we have estates, our home, everything related to us is in this country and you just want to shift to another country where we can have a Penguin as a pet only because your daughter has wished for that. Are you totally insane?" Sophia questioned

"Didn't you look at how she pleaded us for a penguin?" Oliver said looking at Louisa who is concentrating on nothing but the penguins

"She pleaded both of us Oliver, she is a young girl who doesn't know anything. You just can't move away to another country just to have a Penguin," Sophia whisper yelled at him

"Why can't we move Sophia? We have our business expanded in various countries across the globe. We have a chain of organizations in many countries and every country would be happy to welcome people like us as we earn them the revenue. So shifting to another country is not a big deal," Oliver said shrugging

Sophia face palmed herself listening to the words her husband said. "Oliver, I know that you love your daughter more than anything in the whole world but that shouldn't stop you from using your brain," she said hitting him on his head

"What do you mean? Do you think I am brainless just because I wanted to give my daughter the happiness she wanted?" Oliver questioned his wife angrily

"She didn't ask for candy, Oliver. She has asked a Penguin and you got ready to leave this country for that. This certifies nothing but you never use your brain," Sophia replied him controlling her irritation

"Think whatever you want to, but I can't see my only baby sad and I will do anything I can to see a smile on her lips," Oliver stated

"I always wondered how did my daughter become so stubborn, but I understood now that she inherited her father's genes," Sophia replied

"Are you mocking the Father and Daughter now?" Oliver asking placing a hand on his hip

"No Oliver, I am neither mocking your daughter nor you. I am just stating facts," Sophia said shrugging

"Now you are stating the facts, but I don't want to know them. All I want is my daughter's happiness. I will do anything for that. See how happy she looks while watching the Penguins. I want that happiness to stay on her face and I can go any far for that happiness to stay on her face forever," Oliver stated

"God, why did you stuck me here with this crazy family?" Sophia asked looking up

"Now why are you doing the drama?" Oliver asked his wife to which she twisted her lips into a frown

"What else can I do when I have to look after two crazy, stubborn and short-tempered people?"Sophia questioned her husband

"It will be good if you try solving the matter rather than making fun of us," Oliver said seriously

"Okay, you just stay here and I will make her understand," Sophia told her husband and started walking towards Louisa

Sophia stopped in her tracks when Oliver caught hold of her hand

"Why are you stopping me?" Sophia questioned arching her brows

"Look Sophia, try convincing her only if she is ready to listen. Don't pressurize her more. She is my only daughter and I don't want her to be hurt," Oliver said in a pleading manner

"Oliver, stop using the phrase she is my only daughter and start using the phrase she is our only daughter," Sophia said to her husband

"What will happen if I say like that? No one is going to question us anyhow," Oliver said to his wife

"Yes, no one will question us. However, if you go on saying that Louisa is your only daughter it will make me look like I am the mother of half of the country's population, which I am not. Louisa is my only daughter too. So replace your my with the word our," Sophia said to him sternly

"Okay, I will do that from now on. You please do as I said and don't pressurize my daughter," he said to Sophia. Sophia stared and him and Oliver immediately changed his statement to "Our daughter"

Sophia walked towards her daughter who is watching the penguins elated. She ruffled Louisa's baby her and made her sit on her lap

"Lou, did you like the penguins? Sophia asked ruffling her daughters' hair

"Yes Mamma, I love them and I want them," Louisa said throwing her hands in the air

"Okay, if you love them so much we can have them," Sophia replied

"Really?" the nine-year-old Louisa asked with excitement

"Yes, we can have that. But if you want to have it you should move to another place leaving you Mumma," Sophia said to her

"Why should I leave you and go away Mumma?" Louisa asked confused

"We can't have a Penguin her baby, so you need to go to another place to have a Penguin. You should leave your Mumma just like the Penguin leaves her Mumma," Sophia said

"What? Why will the Penguin leave her Mumma?" Louisa questioned

"Because you want one right. So the people will separate a Baby Penguin from a Mumma Penguin and give it to you," Sophia explained her

"Will the Baby Penguin cry if she gets separated?" Questioned Louisa

"Won't you cry when you get separated from your Mumma? In the same way, the Baby Penguin to cries," Sophia told her daughter

"I don't want the Penguin to cry," Louisa said looking into her Mother's eyes

"But the Penguin will cry if she gets separated from Mumma right?" Sophia asked

"Then I don't even want a Penguin. Dad, we are not getting the Penguin," stated innocent Louisa

Oliver looked at his wife with wide eyes and Sophia smirked at him.

"Every fight is not won by war Mr. Oliver Miller, some problems can be sorted with talks too. Take this case as an example," Sophia said smirking
