Chapter 2 - Meeting the King

"Pardon?" Demo said. "I don't understand what you mean by an in another world story."

"Oh, sorry!" Yuna said. "In my world we have a lot of tales about people being summoned to another world. It is an exceedingly popular story; I enjoy them myself. I did not expect however, to find myself in one."

"Makes sense." Demo said. "We have exciting tales we tell our children as well. Normally to keep them entertained or to impart a valuable lesson."

"So, I don't think I was the one you wanted to summon." Yuna explained. "Is there anyway that you could just send me back?"

"Our summoning ritual does not make mistakes!" Demo said. "I understand you must be confused, but rest assured if our summoning chose you, you are the absolute best person for the job. As for sending you back, I am sorry that it is not something within our power."

"So, you just summon people with no way to send them home?" Yuna asked. Yuna then thought to herself, 'It did this time and if he is serious about not sending me home I am going to kill him.'

"That would be correct, yes." Demo answered.

"Savage." Yuna said while contemplating Demo's death. "So why should I help you? You summon me against my will and have no way of sending me home."

"I do apologize for just upending your life like this." Demo said. "We had no choice though; our world is under siege and we need a hero who can help defend it."

Yuna couldn't believe the audacity of this man. She figured his earth shattering reason for kidnapping her must be the most common one. "Demon Lord?" Yuna asked with a sigh.

"Yes! How did you know?" Demo was amazed. "Do you have some sort of psychic powers hero?"

"No, it's just always a demon lord." Yuna sighed. Yuna then thought, 'This man ruined my life for something I can't even do anything about. I spent years training at that agency. I worked hard for what I had and now this bozo just took it all away. I am going to kill him. Consider your death plotted.'

"I don't follow hero, but I am glad you understand our plight." Demo said. "As to why you should help us, we will provide you with a noble title and land, you shall never want for anything. That is as long as you are successful in stopping the demon lord. Until then we shall provide you with a monthly income. Should this income not be enough you are welcome to go to the local guild and complete quests."

"Literally everything you say is a trope." Yuna sighed. "I should have taken that drink with Sam then I wouldn't be in this mess." Yuna's brain continued to think while tunning out the ramblings of the king. She had read it all before and was honestly over it. 'I wonder if Sam will miss me. I wonder if he will search the world for his lost love that never was. I am sure the boss wont even know I am missing, I don't even think he remembered my name half the time.' She thought to herself.

"Our summoning would have found you anywhere." Demo said. "It would not have mattered where you were."

Hearing the last words of Demo snapped her back from her mind. "I am telling you. You summoned the wrong person. I don't know how much clearer I could be." Yuna said again while placing her palm on her face.

"No mistake was made I promise you." Demo said. "Now come and walk with me." He said as he motioned for Yuna to follow him. They exited the chamber through giant doors. The chamber itself sat on top of a mighty tower that overlooked the kingdom. Yuna was able to get a panoramic view of her new world. "As you can see, we are a simple people. We do not have large standing military forces, we do not have fortifications, nothing. We have a meager military and we cannot hope to withstand the onslaught of the Demon Lord. That is why we need your help. The summoning spell chose you, so I know that you will be the one who will save us."

"What am I supposed to do against a demon lord?" Yuna asked. "Before you summoned me, I was just an office worker. I did paperwork and read comics all day."

"It is odd that the summoning circle chose you." Demo said. "However, it does not make mistakes. So, whatever the reason is I am sure we will discover it." Demo reached into his pocket and pulled out a sack of coins. "Take this coin. It is your monthly allowance. Please come visit me at the palace next month and I shall give you more. Depending on your progress I shall either raise it or lower it."

"The palace?" Yuna asked.

"Yes." Demo said with a smile. He then pointed out the palace to Yuna. "You see that building right there. That is the palace, that is where I live."

"You live there?" Yuna asked.

"Oh, did I forget to mention, I am the King." Demo said. "Now go and start your quest. I suggest you start off at the inn and establish a place to stay. Then you should go to the guild so that they can test you to see what attributes you have. Then I would go to the smithy and buy equipment depending on what those attributes are."

"Standard RPG introduction. Got it." Yuna replied.

"Again, you use such strange terms." Demo said. "I must say I do not fully understand you."

"So how do we get down?" Yuna asked. "Are there stairs or…"

"Like this!" Demo waved his hand and the two of them teleported down to the ground. "Good old teleportation magic!"

"So that just happened." Yuna said. "Alright I am off to do what you suggested. Thanks for the advice and the coin." She said. As she left her mind thought of all the different ways she could end the king's life. After all she knew where he lived now.

"You are very welcome!" Demo shouted at her. "Sorry about the whole forcing you into saving our world thing! I am sure you will do fine! The circle doesn't make mistakes!"

Yuna made her way through town. "Well shit. I can't read any of their signs." Yuna sighed. "Why couldn't this have been a in another world where I instantly understood the language?" She asked herself. "Yes, that would have been nice." She said while nodding in agreement with herself. She searched and searched for any sign of the inn. Finally, she came across a sign that appeared to have a bed on it. "Well I really hope this is the inn. I am super tired. I worked all day then I got kidnapped. What a day." She opened the door to the building and inside she found a bustling bar where a man was cleaning glasses behind a counter.

"Welcome to the Stampeding Mongoose!" He shouted as Yuna entered the building. "Those are some strange clothes; you must not be from around here. I suppose you will be wanting a room then?"

"Thank god! This is the inn." Yuna said to herself. "Yes, I would like to set up a long-term sleeping arrangement."
