The priest takes me to a room where everyone that had finished was waiting patiently. It's not nearly as large as the lobby, but there's still plenty of space.
As I sit down in an open seat, the door opens again and Alcon comes stalking out.
He glares at the priest leading him before heading in my direction. Without looking at me, he plops down in the chair next to mine.
With nothing else to do, I decide to investigate the golden light on my wrist.
As I press two fingers into it, a screen full of words and numbers fills my vision.
[God's Blessing]
Level 0: Human
Class: Adventurer
Strength: 98
Agility: 96
Fortitude: 95
Stamina: 93
Mind: 72
'This must be the effects of the ceremony. All humans must start at level 0. And the words under my level indicate my abilities? Mind is pretty general, does it have to do with your intelligence?'
An arm swings into my vision, heading straight for my head. As I duck out of the way, the screen fades away.
I face Alcon as he turns to look at me.
'He looks confused. He must have still not noticed I was sitting next to him when he swept his arm out.'
I nearly face palm at the obliviousness of this asshole.
As I get ready for a possible conflict, he squints his eyes in thought, then he snaps his fingers as if he has remembered something.
"You're the guy that killed that first goblin. And your name is Kairo?"
"Yeah. And you're Alcon?"
He shakes his head like a wet dog.
"No no no, it's said like Al-con"
"Alc-one."Now he's looking a little ticked.
"No you dumbass! Al-con!"
He rubs his palm into his temple as then turns away in a huff, "Phfeh, whatever. How the hell did you know what my name was?"
I raise my eyebrows, then cross my arms and lean back in my seat.
"I could ask you the same."
For a second, he seems lost. But eventually, a light bulb almost visibly goes off in his head.
"Well, I just saw you in the lobby and heard your name called. Kinda assumed. And you?"
"I pretty much did the same thing."
He scoffs at me.
"Yeah right, like you would be able to do that!"
"I mean, if someone like you can do it, then I'm plenty capable."
A vein pops up on his forehead as his face grows a shade of red.
"Fuck you! You're just some dumbass that can't even say my name right!"
I rub the bridge of my nose, a hot frustration growing in my stomach.
'Why does he remind me of a classic bully?'
"So how'd your ceremony go?"
His tone is now back to neutral, a scowl still on his face but it seems that's a resting expression.
"Well…it hurt like hell, but I feel surprisingly good after. How about yours?"
The quick switch throws me off, but I'm still able to form a solid response.
"Yours hurt? Mine was painless."
I'm at a loss for words at his confused expression.
"Maybe it hurts differently for people?"
His face darkens in thought.
"That would make sense…"
Him nodding reminds me of a thief happy with his score.
'His high school gangster vibe is way too off the charts!'
"Okay, if you say so. By the way, what'd you see in the crystal when you put your hand on it? I saw a grey fog and brown lights."
Again, his sudden switch in topics throws me off again. It takes me a bit to remember what exactly I saw in the room.
"Mostly red and yellow lights with some green mixed in. There was also a white orb in the middle of the tablet."
Alcon is now eyeing me strangely.
"So, your main color is white? Are you gonna be a healer or something else useless?"
Now my face has a hint of red to it. The thought of being useless never crossed my mind. I suppose it is possible none of the Clans would be interested.
"Not only do healers seem to be the most important class, but I doubt Kairo would be useless with how he handled the goblins."
Natalia had just finished her ceremony and is heading in our direction.
She must have overheard our conversation and decided to join in.
"Hey Natalia! How did your your ceremony go?" I ask in hopes that it will change the conversation.
"I mean it went well. Was something big supposed to happen?"
Alcon just points over at me with his thumb.
"It hurt for him, but didn't for me. Guess we're just different stock."
She rolls her eyes and ignores him.
"As for the crystal, I saw green and brown lights. The brown lights weren't super pretty, but the green ones were like little jewels."
"Hey, we share a color sweet cheeks. Wouldn't ya say that's fate?"
Alcon breaks into the conversation again and changes the tone of his voice to an accent I swear I've heard somewhere.
Natalia looks at him like he's a pile of shit she just stepped in.
"Well isn't that nice. And no, I really think it's just chance. I can't imagine anyone that would want to be with a piece of trash like you."
Even with the harsh remarks, Alcon just takes it into stride.
"Oh c'mon baby. We could have a fun time."
His eyes rake up and down her body, finally stopping on her chest.
"Oh, maybe not." He says in a disappointed voice, almost physically deflating a bit.
'Oh no.'
"What was that?!"
A frightening aura starts coming off of Natalia.
"Oh nothing, just disappointed by your flat chest."
She's shocked, but quickly becomes livid, yelling and cussing at Alcon.
Cold sweat is pouring down my face as I frantically think of a way to diffuse this situation.
Luckily, another employee with the white uniform has appeared and hands me and Alcon each a stack of sheets.
"Your analysis has been completed and these are your stats, along with your magical affinities. There are three sheets in the back that will have the Classes available for you and the descriptions about them."
As the employee walks away, Alcon starts flipping through the packet.
I take a quick glance at Natalia, who has a sour expression and is now muttering under her breath.
Looking down at my packet, I swallow nervously before flipping to the first page.
