Chereads / Ship of Broken Hearts / Chapter 4 - Chapter 1

Chapter 4 - Chapter 1

The waves are much more calmer than awhile ago. I stared at the starry night and closed my eyes to feel the freshness of the air. The humidity is still in there.

"Hey." I felt someone stood beside me.

I opened my eyes to see who's beside me. It's Sebastian. "Hey." I responded.

"Welcome to the crew." He said and gave me a goblet.

I stared at it for a second before accepting it. "Thanks."

I sniffed the goblet.

"Don't worry, I put nothing but a wine in there." He seems to be aware of my wariness.

We remained silent while drinking our wines. We just focused on what's in front of us.

"Captain." Someone called from behind.

Sebastian faced the guy. "What's up, Mark?"

Mark turned his gaze towards me before answering. "Are you really sure about this?" He asked directly.

Sebastian's eyebrows furrowed. "About what?"

"About letting a lady into our crew."

I raised my eyebrow. Uh? Hello? I'm still here, am I invisible?

He's talking about me as if I'm not here at all.

"Are you questioning my decision, Mark?" Sebastian asked.

"Not at all, Captain. But-"

"I want her here." Sebastian cuts him off.

"But Captain-"

"My words are absolute, Mark. You know that. I don't take my words back." He seriously added.

"We don't even know if she can do things inside the ship. If she can handle things about our crew ships."

This Mark guy is starting to get into my nerves.

"We don't even have any single idea on what she's capable of." He does exaggerated movements to appeal at his words.

"That's right. We don't have any idea on what she's capable of, so keep your judgements to yourself for now." Sebastian sipped from his goblet.

"Ha!" Mark huffed. "I can't believe this." He mumbled before bowing his head and left us behind.

Sebastian faced the wide body of water with me once again.

"Why did you sided with me?" I asked him.

He just shrug his shoulders.

Another moment of silence resonated within the two of us.

"You know, I've never seen anyone fight like you." He said, breaking the silence.

"What do you mean?" I was confused. I stared at him, he kept his eyes in front.

"Every guy inside this ship is full of skills. They're the most honed pirates in our land. But not even a single one of them fought like you did to me."

I wrinkled my nose. "I don't get it." I faced in front and drank from my goblet.

I heard him chuckled. "You're pretty fast and agile. Your body moves like a fluid. It's very smooth, yet very strong." He explained but I still don't get it.

I remained silent.

"Where did you learn that?" He asked.

"The what?"

"Your skillful moves."

I laughed a little. "My dad's a very influential person. I needed to learn self defense to protect myself, so he hired a special trainer just for me."

He nodded. "Oh, okay. So, that's why."

I faced him after realizing something. "So you invited me to join your crew because you were amazed by my fighting skills?"

He nodded. "Yeah."

"Geez. So, if you weren't fascinated by my moves you'll deadass kill me?" I asked in disbelief.

"No." He snickered. "I told you, we don't kill innocent people."

"But you almost killed me-" I was cut off by him.

"We're just scaring you. We planned on making you loss your consciousness on the main deck. Then, make you appear drunken so if you'll talk about us, being in that ship, no one will believe you. They don't believe in pirates anyways." He shook his head.

"So, I do have a choice?!"

"Yeah, but since you're already here, you've lost that chance already." He sniggered.

"You bastard!" I greeted my teeth.

"From now on, you're already dead." He said. "It won't be long after they realize that they were missing one passenger aboard. They would think you've jumped off the ship."

I remained my silence. I just realized what's really happening to me right now. I no longer exist on my land. They might really think I jumped off the ship because of broken heart.

"Hey." I called his attention after a while.

"Hm?"

"Why did you raid our ship anyway?" I was suddenly curious. "Are you some kind of a bad pirates and stuff?" I raised my left eyebrow.

He laughed. "That ship is loaded with illegal weapons. That ship's destination was Manila, right? That's where they are taking those weaponry."

I was shocked on what I've heard.

"Is that for real?!" I asked.

"Yeah. You've seen the weapons right?" He gazed at me for a second.

"I thought those were just props for your cosplaying." I was in a real shock.

I can't believe I was in a ship full of illegal weaponry. So, are they doing something illegal within the ship's premises? Am I with criminals all along in that ship? I knew it. Those aristocrats are really nothing but a pieces of shits.

"I can't believe you're that simple minded." He shook his head.

I sighed. I can't believe what is happening to me right now.

Just a few days ago, I was about to get married. Then got cheated on the same exact day.

Now, I was just planning to rewind my mind and take a break from all the shits that I have been through, then ended up being with this crew of pirates.

Have I done something gravely before to deserve all of this? I didn't even asked to be born...

I looked down upon the large body of water in front of me. The water seems to calm down a bit.

"We're almost there." Sebastian suddenly announced.

"Where?"

"You'll see." He ended the conversation real quick.

I just let him be and stared at the breaking dawn. It's already morning.

My mind is turning completely blank. It seems like the stress that all of this happenings implied to me is making me sleepy suddenly. Come to think of it, I haven't had any good sleep since that fucked up wedding day.

I sat down and put my goblet beside me. Sebastian threw a stare at me.

"Don't mind me, I'm just sleepy." I gave him a small sleepy smile. He just nodded.

I relaxed all my muscles and tried to focus on not falling into a deep slumber. I might be comfortable here and my guts do tell me that I am safe to bring my guard down around Sebastian, but I cannot deny the fact that I still don't trust him and his crew.

I remained in my position, being half asleep, until I heard some subtle noises from the crew.

I opened my left eye to see what's happening.

Sebastian walked and stopped in front of me. "Kitty, we're here." He reached out his hands.

I scratched my eyes and yawned before reaching his hands for support. "Stop calling me that." I mumbled while still adjusting my vision to the now orange colored sky.

"Stop calling you what?" He asked nonchalantly.

"Kitty. I have a name dummy." I stretched out my arms.

"Yeah, your name's Kitty." He walked passed me.

"What the?" I just rolled my eyes in annoyance. Guys and their annoying personality.

I saw the guys preparing some ropes and planks again.

"Are we there yet?" I asked Sebastian. I still can't see anything other than water.

"Just wait for a while." He said while fixing his white long sleeve polo.

I just realized now that his attire is pretty much elegant.

He has this white long sleeve polo with strange embroideries, a black slack and a corset vest with a brown and black patterns.

I didn't notice that I was already staring at him for a very long time.

"What are you lookin' at, Kitty? You want to kiss?" He sneered.

I scowled at him, "Shut your pie hole." I rolled my eyes at him. "Damn pirate." I mumbled.

The sun is already fully awake, enough to make us squint our eyes just to be able to stare at the vast body of water in front of us.

"Your outfit's cool." I initiated a conversation.

"Yeah. I know." He answered directly, it seems like he doesn't want to prolong the talk.

I was appalled enough to roll my eyes at him. I am never going to start a conversation again. Never.

I crossed my arms in front of my chest.

I inhaled deeply. It felt like the ocean is embracing me. The air is still a bit humid, nevertheless, it's still quite comforting.

I closed my eyes and leaned on the the ship's bar. I just let my face and body feel the sway of each and every  waves coming through us. The wind is blowing my short hair away from my face.

This is so comforting that it felt so unreal and fictitious.

"Hey." Sebastian called out to me, yet I remained silent and my eyes are still close.

"Hey." He once again called me. I felt a poke on my shoulder.

"What—!" My eyes widened. As soon as I faced him, his face is right in front of me, just some centimeters before our nose could touch.

'Too close'

"The fuck are you doing?!" I pushed him away, my eyebrows are totally connected with each other.

"What's wrong with you? I'm just trying to tell you we're here." He raised his left eyebrow at me and pointed in front.

I followed where his finger is pointed at and what I saw next left me in a total awe.

"Holy crap..."
